This looks GREAT! I can't wait for northern California to secede from the loonies in San Francisco, Sacramento, et cetera so I can once again enjoy this natural beauty.

Another clown comment about the Donner tragedy and he even laughed. I'm not a bleeding heart but these people were as tough (or tougher) than any BDR rider and a moment of silence would have been more appropriate.
You done bumped your head if you think electric bikes are a good idea... Totally Delusion !!! Great Film though as usual despite it felt like a Zero commercial.
My son and I did the loop in two days. That was too much for my 58 yr old bones. Three days would've been much better. We avoided the optional knarly stuff. There was a car rally race in a pretty large section that threw us off the the loop for a while. Was a good time with my son but 2nd day was a little too long. I was ready to get off.
I've ridden the trails around Mammoth many times. I'm sure this is an excellent route. That said, why the primary bike in all of these BDR films are 500lb+ 'adventure' bikes continues to baffle me. Notice all of the crashing? The right tool for the job is a lightweight bike with moto bags.
Because they have to show it can be done. You know others are going to take those bikes, it would obviously be easier on a dirtbike, but you have to prove it can be ridden on a 1200GS with full luggage.
BMW doesn't have the pedigree in any auto/moto sport that would justify charging double the price of a comparable Dual Sport. The prices on the GS series, especially the R1250, would be hilarious if not offensive. BMW cars are hideous looking s**t piles with an abysmal racing record in TOCA, they aren't even present in F1, they have finished behind Japanese manufactures in MotoGP for the last 25 years and I see nothing in the GS line that makes it worth double the V-Strom or Africa Twin. I will stick with an unbeatable record and unbeatable features with my Africa Twin. I can by the top trim, fit it completely, buy myself all the body gear I need...all for less than the GS1250. Insane greed.
Love the WYBDR footage. When I rode through Wyoming on the Continental Divide it just looks like Wyoming is a big desert, but it has so much more to offer. I will say, I enjoy the serene and wide open empty spaces of the desert more than most, but love the footage your team has captured. Makes me wanna ride the BDR! Keep up the great work.
This helps convince me I need a DR650 more than any of those other bikes. I have a 690 but I bet the little Suzuki is a better tractor for these sorts of trails. Probably wear you out much less!
Great route; I've done some of it previously 20 years ago as a solo rider. What I do not understand is why everyone overestimates the risk of the trails and speed and why no one seems to be able to right their downed motorcycle.
This is not hard riding but more about conditioning . The gal on the wr250 should be blasting through those sections I know I've done it. Hey not everyone is a pro rider and norther I'm I but this is more about togetherness. Bravo ... Makes me confident to not get a big adv and make my wr250r a true light adv bike
Just completed a North to South run a few weeks ago. This was a lot of fun to watch and remember. So glad I did it on a Husky 901X and not one of those giant bmw's. I had my doubts about this route as it wasn't as technically challenging as some of the other bdr's I've done but the scenery more than made up for it. Could kind of tune out, take in the sites and finish up a section in 5-6 hrs. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys these routes. Probably ride it again in the future for some buddies first bdr.
Seems that whoever decided this route forgot about the best part of NorCal. The Redwoods! I guess I’ll have to show y’all another loop around Mendocino National Forest and over to the lost coast. Great video!
Tough decision to leave out the Lost Coast, but we wanted to start the route near the end of the SoCal BDR and end as close as we could to the start of the ORBDR. But, stay tuned, we are working on BDR-X routes in a number of locations. :)
Really love seeing Sterling Noren on here. That dude is a Gem and doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He is true salt of the earth and just loves to ride. These BDR films are usually kind of cringe and filled with too many personalities from different companies trying to represent their brand. Like this guy on the Zero. 120 mile range? What a joke. That only works when you have a big publication like this with planned stopped and an extraction team one phone call away. The common man could not make the BDR on a zero.
Most of the BDR's have been completed by people on electric bikes. This was the first time the filming expedition used one, not the first time they've been used on a BDR.
Adding economic incentive to keep public lands accessible is fantastic, that gives me hope that our love for offroad riding will stick around for the next generation. Tread lightly, keep right, ride safe.
Your front brakes are 75% of your braking force, on or off road and you can brake much more than you typically think. Please get some training before taking on an off road route such as this.
@RekdReation that's nice, you're still wrong. Get some training. If we're comparing resumes I have over 60,000 miles of riding in the last 3 years. About half of that off-road. Yeah I'll keep using my front brakes.
@@RekdReation Sometimes being old doesn't mean you have useful knowledge or wisdom. It just means you're old. Technology and techniques evolve. Get training.
Why in the name of all that's holy do you ride so close to each other off road?? When that rider was literally overtaking someone as they crashed early in the video... Not smart.
Be careful in rural area of California. Cartel is setting shop in many places. My friend was on a forest trail and came across some. He was fortunate to do a quick U turn and outrun them. If that is disturbing, start contacting your elected officials at the local and especially state level demanding they do something about it.
