Its not an fallacious appeal to tradition to say that a woman can not be an authoritative teacher ordained by God. His word says it is an appeal to the created order which does not change with time and culture and a woman can not be the "husband of one wife." Framing it as a "sbc has always done it this way" argument is side stepping the Bible and making it seem like an agenda of convenience. Authoritative teachers in the church will be more strictly judged and chastised by God if they redefine the Word of God and people are only looking at it as job security. It is not convenient to stick with the Bible as IT says the created order of man and woman. That gets us nothing but spit in our face and we didn't even make up that idea. And kissing the ring of the world to stop getting spat at will get you chastised by God "in the presence of his Holy angels." It is the hardest calling and we want to shove that rock and a hard place situation of accountability on women so it's good for the optics? So it garners favor for SBC in newspapers?
You nailed it. These creeps always find a way to hide behind scripture. The underlying message is that men want to keep all of the power and control, and money. They even want control over women's bodies. I say turn your backs on the stodgy old codgers. The have their own interests at heart. Find a church that reflects your values.
