I would say that Toy Story 4 was not expected. Though Tom Hanks stated, " No, there will not be a Toy Story 5", and he was heartbroken there was not much dialogue in the film, as in most films, I feel if Pixar has to do Toy Story 5, must be a creative way to fix the story. I would hope Pixar does make a few more sequels and then try to focus on some original films. However, Pixar isn't weak. Elemental was very heartouching, I would be open for Elemental 2. Because the movie moved me alone, as I saw it when it was on Disney +. Inside Out 2, was wow. I knew it was going to suck. However I had to go see it. It was the last minute and most worth it. I hope they would release Inside Out 2 for Labor day this year again.
Pixar turning into illumination is the biggest insult to illumination I have ever heard in my life😂 sure their stories are lackluster but they're fun Goofy movies you can just turn your brain off to
I’m glad inside out 2 surpassed incredibles 2 at the box office. That movie was pretty average in all honesty. Not bad, but kind of forgettable. I’m only realising it years after it comes out. Now there’s rumours a 3rd movie in development as well as finding nemo 3. Only time will tell however.
It’s really hard to say judging the title of this video overall. Elio is coming out next year when it was originally meant to come out this year. The director of turning red is helping out with it. Meanwhile Toy Story 5 is being directed by Andrew Stanton who is a Pixar veteran so it does give me hope it’ll be really good. I think they’ve also got another original movie earlier in 2026 but I don’t think it’s been officially confirmed either.
Speaking as a big (and I mean BIG) fan of Pixar, I don't think they're necessarily "back". When I hear/read "They're back", I interpret "back" as back to whatever their golden age was. And whilst there aren't universally agreed eras for Pixar like there are for Disney, I would argue that Pixar's golden age began with Finding Nemo (2003) and ended with Toy Story 3 (2010). From Toy Story (1995) to Monsters Inc. (2001), I define that as their pioneer era. From Cars 2 (2011) to The Good Dinosaur (2015), I consider that to be their dark era (with Inside Out (2015) as the diamond in the rough). And from Finding Dory (2016) to Toy Story 4 (2019), I define that as the nostalgia era. From Onward (2020) to present day, I consider this to be Pixar's paradigm shift. With major advances in technology (both in terms of animation and distribution) and a lot more competition from rival studios, this is the era where Pixar have diverted from the "Pixar Look" they established towards more experimental, stylistic aesthetics. For a number of their scripts, they've also migrated from complex stories to more straightforward ones. They're not adverse to their older way of doing things, but they're not stuck with them either. We'll see if Pixar have a silver age or a renaissance down the line, but I'm still optimistic about them making good movies. It's hard to say what or when the next era will be, but I'm at least looking forward to finding out 🙂
Interesting way of how you interpret Pixar’s Eras. Mine are different from yours with the exception of the last one starting with Onward to present day Pixar, that’s the only one I’m in agreement with. For me personally their Golden Era began with Toy Story and ended with Toy Story 3 (well, okay, I guess the Golden Era ending with Toy Story 3 is the only other agreement we have), their Pioneering Era being their original short films before Toy Story like Luxo, Jr. Red’s Dream, Tin Toy and Knick Knack because that’s where I feel like Pixar not only started as an animation studio, but how they found their identity and first established the storytelling techniques they’d carry over into their feature films. The 2010 Era would be their Post-Golden Era (I don’t want to necessarily prefer it to as their Dark Era), beginning with Cars 2 and ending with Toy Story 4. Though I’ll admit I do like your own interpretation of it as the Nostalgia Era, which seems fitting considering most of the studio’s films released in the 2010 decade were decade old sequels to their Golden Age films. Very interesting and different way of defining the Pixar era in the 2010 decade. Most people wouldn’t look at it that way.

Like I said earlier, there's no official way to do it 🙂 The main reason I consider Toy Story - Monsters Inc to be their pioneer era is because whilst there was some praise for their writing, most of the praise was for their animation being so revolutionary at the time. Finding Nemo was really when they became famed for their writing just as much for if not more than, their animation. The shorts and commercials they made before Toy Story, I just call that their pre-cinematic era. And yeah, I definitely see a difference in their movies in the latter half of the 2010s compared to the earlier half. Not just because almost all of them were sequels, but because a lot of the stories were about looking into the past in one way or another. I'd also argue that Onward and Soul were transitional movies away from the nostalgia era because both of their stories dealt heavily with retrospection.
What are you talking about? Pixar's BEEN back! They never left. 😂 I don't care what anyone says, lightyear was really good. And I'm excited for toy story 5. Who says it has to end? If pixar has more ideas for toy story movies, just let them cook.
Yes sequels are coming, but original projects are still on the way. I’m looking forward to Elio next year. We also may hear of new projects forthcoming from Pixar at D23 in August.
