Is It Really That Bad? - Disney's Wish 

i feel like your final point can be explained simply with Disney: Wish will feel like our older movies! me: what kind? what era? Disney: yes

Before you even started to speak I was like I bet it’s “eh”

Recently the origional concept (and art) was released and i honestly think that would have made the movie amazing. It sounded cute and could definitely pay tribute to past Disney so well. Sadly, all those great ideas were cut. Plus...with the strike affecting how things got done, i can see how the rumors with AI got started (i still dont know if it was used)

People saying that Wish is the worst Disney film ever made, they’re wrong, I’ve seen them all this is not the worst.

Honestly, I have a tendency to love movies and shows that others hate, so, I'm gonna take the time to watch this later.

I cried watching wish,I felt the emotion in the scene.Where she had to tell her father,he wouldn’t be able to have his wish. And I felt the emotion in the scene at the end of the movie when the village and its people started to sing and the light shown through there chest.I related to her the whole movie,because I’ve had someone who I looked up to.Let me down and I laughed at the goat because he reminded me of a movie that made me smile as a child. I know it’s just a movie and everyone doesn’t seem to like it, but for me it felt like for the first time in a long time.I finally had something that made me smile again.This princess had more realistic emotions and reactions compared to the ones I’ve seen in the past other than Elsa and Anna and Cinderella in the live action in 2015.So for me this movie hit home and it was everything I could have dreamed of.In a way this movie was my wish come true. But also I hope you have a magical day today.You are an inspiration and have inspired me to be more creative and have more confidence.

I kept going back and forth with wanting to watch this movie. Because i was hoping for a classic disney princess love story kind of movie. But no there wasnt and that got me frustrated. I also heard that the original concept art was way better than what the movie showed. I heard that they planned to have both the king and queen to be full on villains with and evil cat sidekick and i immediately thought of james and jessie from pokemon. Which I wish that they went with that instead. Because they would be a powerful villianous couple that disney didn't have before. Also there would be a villain couple duet song. Which would be so much fun. But now I'm disappointed. Also i saw a clip that was leaked that confused me and got me rooting for magnifico side. Which is odd because I'm always on the hero side. Because he isn't wrong about not granting everyone wish. Also i couldnt enjoy the songs even though i would like to, but couldn't.

For me, I thought it was a fun watch but not a great movie. But yeah, I definitely can see your points.

Thank you for this review. My thoughts on the film: I liked it generally but to say it honors the 100th year is lying. The characters are well but not top tier (definitely with you on Valentino, had better sidekicks), songs are really great, animation is different, but I like it, and the story was enjoyable but not extraordinary. Yet Asha's friends, as much as they resemble the dwarves, I actually love them. And I know their names, Dahlia, Gabo, Bazeema, Dario, Safi, and Simon. The last friend (thanks to internet) is Hal but she's the only one who would be seen as background or resemble Happy more.

Is it forgettable, yes, but there are a plethora of Disney VHS movies that are wayyyy more creatively bankrupt.

I saw it in 3D opening weekend, loved it (surprisingly), and I was the only person in the theater. Part of the villain song is in my head.

Hopefully the failure of Wish and the Marvels will snap some sense into Disney. But…I’m really starting to doubt that.

That last thing you said about the Adam Sandler movie. Wow. When I saw the trailer, all I can hear is the old man from 8 Crazy Nights.

I wasn't able to watch Wish till D+, but I'm glad I did. It was a great disappoint to my expectations as a new concept. However, after watching, I was a little satisfied with the end because it was actually an homage to all of the Disney Classic Films! Especially when they put the film's in chronological order in the ending credits; don't look for Pixar, they aren't there. AND...I loved "This is the Thanks I Get"! It was the only song that the key change & tempo that wasn't switched multiple times!

Wish basically just tries too hard to be perfect and it failed horribly. I feel like Disney just needs to stop building off their popular movies pr making live action movies of their old ones, and just make a genuine movie that is unique in its own right.

I watched the reviews before the movie but when I seen the movie I was expecting to not like the movie but actually I found it very coherent and the story is very well done. The devil in the details. They maybe didn't dwell on the emotions too much which was mostly the complains that the story seemed rushed but I don't see it at all , I really liked it and I don't see the nitpick other talked about I found the story very coherent

It wasn't as good as I had hoped but I still enjoyed it. One of my favorite parts was actually the credits, seeing all those characters as stars in the sky was touching

I agree with you. I liked the movie, but it wasn’t a masterpiece like other Disney films. Same with Strange World. While that movie was more fun for me to watch, it, too, wasn’t a master peace. It’s a shame that a film celebrating 100 years wasn’t a masterpiece. And I agree with you also that Disney will make great films again. They are capable of it (just look at Encanto). It’ll just take time.

I remember having a great time watching Wish in theaters, and while I was able to see some of the flaws it has, and I didn't think it was one of Disney's best, I also didn't think it was one of Disney's worst either. I'm still proud to have watched this film in theaters in honor of Disney100.

Asha's This Wish song was the only part of the movie I actually liked.....

i like the idea people have said where it's a prequel to snow white and the villain is actually the magic mirror because what happens to him at the end but overall it was a decent movie but yeah could have been better

For once I was interested in this movie until the goat started talking. I have a thing with animals talking and it's one of the most obnoxious thing. They always have the most obnoxious voices or have "comedians" voicing them

To be honest, Wish was just an average film, however there is another animated film that came out. Please go see the new animated film from Studio Ghibli: The Boy and the Heron, it is a Masterpiece!

I saw the movie, and it was like a 3/10 overall for me. Apart from 1 song I genuinely loved called "At all Costs" and some ok animation, everything else to me sucked from the characters, plot, rules of the world-building, etc. A.I could've written a better story. Insanely disappointing especially with how they marketed this movie and said it was a love letter for the 100 year legacy of Disney. The "Once Upon a Studio" short film released a few months ago was genuinely amazing and blows this entire film out of the water

Wish, Is By far One of the Best Thing to Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Disney. Despite of all the Negative Comments and Reviews of this Movie since the Movie came out....But for Me, I Super Loved this Movie from the Trailer, to the Movie i was Completely smiled and Enjoyed, Asha Valentino and Star even King Magnifico are my Favorite Characters in the Movie Even the Songs from The Wish Movie is a Showstopper. "This Wish" and "A Wish Worth Making" is by far one of my Personal Favorite Disney Songs. It relates me to the whole new level

I thought it was fine. The animation style seemed fine. The songs were fine. Valentino was fine (but pointless). I suppose that could be considered damning with faint praise. Maybe it's being an adult, but I felt like the bigger problems were just how they moved the plot forward. Asha was asking for outright favortisim during her interview and Magnificato was good to have called her out on it. Magnifico was a bit defensive but how many movies are built around the consequences of vague wishes to not think he has a point about those one. Magnifico started as an antagonist, but no more than any adult calling out a disney protagonist for being immature ("Don't you take that tone of voice with me, young lady! As long as you live under my ocean, you'll obey my rules!"), not until he got corrupted by the spellbook at which point he became almost comically evil. More development of the Queen and her friends as characters would have gone a long way. But if you just want to turn your brain off a bit and hear some pretty songs and see protagonists saving the day, it's an enjoyable watch.

Personally i don’t believe this is the worst lol i don’t understand why it’s so bad. I mean yes animation disappointing, yeah the storyline and background of characters and of the story itself are definitely extremely shallow, but the general flow of the story is captivating i genuinely enjoyed the storyline and the lesson that people shouldn’t solely hunger for power. Of course this movie isn’t the best but at the same time for little kids its enjoyable, interesting cast of characters, and fun

I actually loved Wish, considering the fact that this was made for the 100th anniversary! I’m a sucker for Easter Eggs and knowing that every Disney movie was referenced in this one made me laugh. Plus, for a moment I actually felt the pain in certain characters when their wishes were stolen! As for Asha, I was disappointed knowing she’s not a true princess (if you know what I mean) but I did enjoy her performance, especially with the songs!

I don't understand the hate it got :( I loved the soundtrack and the Easter eggs and references and the animation kinda looks like old Disney and new Disney animation mixed together I think at D23 they said that it was also supposed to be a big tribute to 100 years of Disney

In all fairness, this is the biggest downgrade from puss in boots the last wish which came out last year. I remember that movie was huge when it came out last year as well.

I didn’t watch Wish so I don’t have an opinion on it. I did watch the trailer and the villain song both of which were just meh. Honestly, I don’t care what Disney does. At this point, they don’t mean anything to me so I couldn’t care less.

Movie was a 7/10 for me. Wasn't Renaissance levels, but certainly better than Chicken Little, Home on the Range, or Mars Needs Moms. Could've used a bit of rewriting - probably was caused by the pandemic, the screenwriter Lee also working on Frozen 2 and being rushed with that, and the writer/actor strike (don't know if its true, but that strike could've forced them to only be able to use the first takes and 1st draft of the film and they couldn't do rewrites or rerecord line reads).

Even if you didn’t love the movie, I’m always glad to NOT see a negative review on the movie, because I swear, I’m so sick of the hate on it, and I’m even more sick of people calling it the worst Disney movie ever, because seriously? Worst than Home on the Range or Chicken Little?! And I agree with it, it’s definitely better than Strange World. Me personally, I actually really liked Wish. Yes, I can agree it’s definitely not one of Disney’s best movies, but I thought it was enjoyable. As an anniversary to 100 years, I definitely much prefer Once Upon a Studio over it, but with that said, I still enjoyed all of the references in it.

Hey Brian I honestly wasn't that much excited for this movie anyway so when I see it ut probably won't disappoint. I already knew it wasn't gonna be that great considering how much expectations were probably put on it. I'll probably take it for what it us and just try to enjoy it

Thank you so much for uploading this; my sister and I saw this and we felt the same way. Could've been better but we've seen worse. And it's not as bad as Chicken Little or Home on the Range. We both love Star. I think Star should've been named Hikari instead, and so does my sister. Hikari means "light," so it would make sense especially since it's the Japanese name for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl's Dawn. I would've loved Star/Hikari to have more moments with the yarn by using it to pretend to be other characters like in the concept art and using a knitting needle as a sword for battles (poke the enemy! Death by knitting needle!). As for Leon de Magnifico (I know he's El rey magnifico but I wanted to give him a first name), I think the washed up chicken a la king (get the reference?) could be better too, be more the proud peacock than a turkey in peacock feathers.

I saw Wish today and actually really enjoyed it Asha was a great character, Valentino was the GOAT (pun intended), we had some great songs and animation, and I enjoyed the subtle references to Disney's other films Plus Ariana DeBose was the MVP of the whole shebang. I rated it as a 9.5 out of 10

I also find Valentino useless and not funny. He's cute but none of his jokes made me laugh AND he did nothing to help Asha defeated the villain. Not distracting his minions like Timon and Pumba did for Simba in Lion king 1|2 or charging at him with a weapon like Mushu did with Mulan or just attacking him like Simba with Scar. Also, an adult voice coming from a baby goat is weird 😐Star is better than him even if she| he is only there to sell toys. At least, he has cute reactions.

I am SO GLAD you shared your review of this movie, Brian! So many "critics" on RU-vid think that they need to be perpetually negative and talk about how terrible everything supposedly is. So, to listen to someone with a little nuance and forgiveness is genuinely welcoming. And like you say, this movie isn't terrible. It's just very, very meh. In my opinion, Wish for Disney Animation Studios is what Phantom Menace was for Star Wars. When you look at it objectively, Phantom Menace isn't a terrible movie. It's still bad in many regards, but the main reason it gets so much hate is because it came off the heels of one of the greatest movie trilogies ever made. And I think this is very similar - Wish is not an awful film, it's just an underwhelming film coming off the heels of a century of mostly beloved and timeless animated classics. Most of my criticisms of the movie are identical to yours, so I won't repeat them. The only thing I'll say is I seem to be one of the few who genuinely likes the song "This Is the Thanks I Get". I think it's a refreshing change for the villain song to be an upbeat pop number instead of a gloomy broadway one. Similar to how part of what made "We Don't Talk About Bruno" so great was that it sounded like a villain song but wasn't about a villain; it was instead about someone the other characters treated as a villain before the truth was discovered. I also love some of the rhymes in the lyrics, like "But I'm HYPnotised by these pages, FLIPPED 'cos I refuse to have my powers STRIPPED."

It was the least offensive Disney offering I have seen this year, the best of a bad batch of theater releases that I think were a waste of time. There were many problems with "cast overstuffing with not enough for each character", and not nearly utilizing the fictional Iberian Peninsula location enough, but what Wish did well it did very well. For the record, Magnifico was never marketed as a "twist villain", although that is a significant problem with 2010s Disney movies seeming to be flush with that type of villain. Instead, he is a (former) great hero who always had the potential to fall to darkness because of his narcissism and paranoia about the next generation (naturally) succeeding him in power. Star/Hikari falling to Earth was simply the impetus to get this fall started, with the audience seeing it happen in real time. We see this "hero becoming a villain" arc happening all the time in superhero related media (see Sinestro, Harry Osborn, Kirk "Man Bat" Langstrom, and Alfred Molina's portrayal of Dr. Octopus, among many other examples). I give Wish props for tackling this storyline for mainstream DISNEY animated media, which had never been done before.

It doesn’t look all that bad and although ppl are saying that the songs and their lyrics don’t feel passionate or well done I think they were fine. Actually At All Costs and I’m a Star along with This Wish hit me on personal levels and I liked it. I feel like the plot and the references were what bothered me but they still feel very interesting and fun. Idk I feel like the movie might have been an eh but I don’t hate it. Hot take time; I love this movie!

...it had zero soul, i did not feel any of the characters, the plot line from the beginning was stark and predictable from the beginning. The morales and underlying messages r not deep and meaningful cept for a political one of poor vs tyranny.... which portrays real life rights sacrificed for safety.... The animation was ok sometimes but nope... something was off and lastly... this really is a musical huh? Too many songs with again no heart. Sorry but not sorry... this movie sums up wat is going on with disneys classics. Disney reputation died with Mr. Walt. Period.

Yeah I didn't like The Black Cauldon {basically Disney The Last Unicorn}, most animated movies from 1996 to 2009 (the live action movies POTCCOTBP, National Treasure and Enchanted) or Frozen.

I think Wish is a pretty decent movie too. Probably not the best, but I did like the songs and it felt like the only good movie Disney had put out all year.

Chicken Little, at least, had characters you can care about and genuine stakes. Chicken Little is a far better film. That being said, I liked the animation in WISH, the actor for the goat, Chris Pine, the music (lyrics sucked, though), and the Queen was hot af. The movie, as a whole, was trash.
