Thank you, Dave. All my power supplies are built for ham radio, and I have to battery boosters. I have operated off battery power the last three years or so. What is the little unit with flashing lights near your calculator? N0QFT
I run my radio off a battery. There is a charger and a timer connected to the battery. The charger runs at night. No problem with noise. I can charge the battery off my car if necessary. If you depend on a grid-connected power supply and the grid goes down. you are in trouble. Being up and running in an emergency is one reason for being a ham.
Hello DAVE; Good video sir. I have no idea what type of a power supply he's referring to but I have an Alinco PS on 4 radios & my stuff is as quiet as a church service. 73's, TMP, Unit 22 from N.J.
Hi Dave, I am running the new Rig Expert ShackMaster 30A power supply.... made for Ham Radio... No birdies... very clever design and visual information provided, I give it 5 stars. They did a great job on this power supply's design and build. I hope one day you can review it on the channel. Keep Up the great work on the channel Old Man. 73 Art W1SWL
I went 20 foot by sliding 1.25" EMT inside of 1.5" EMT and securing it with screws. Not sure if you could slide this into 1.75 EMT and go up 30 feet or not.
Thanks for the wonderful overview. I bought a pixel loop many years ago, it is still going! I added a second one from DX Engineering last year - love them for receiving.
Dear, good evening! I recently bought a signalink, unfortunately I didn't buy the cable (Tigertronics SLCAB13I) RJ 45/mini din 13 pins. Can you tell me how to make the 13 pin connector pinout work with RJ 45? I already made a cable like this in the past for the FT 2000, but unfortunately I couldn't find the assembly diagram on the Tigertronics website. If you know or know someone who has the schematic and can pass it on to me, I would be very grateful. Thank you very much Ton PY4RP
God made all people from one man, Adam. All people are brothers. Unfortunately, the lying and corrupt clergy is silent about this. They even bless Racism and Nazism in the name of God. The problem is that the Devil rules the world. He is a liar and a murderer. This is why deception and violence are everywhere. This is the reason why people cry over stray cats and hate their brothers. This is the reason why Hitler got the power, but Christ was executed as "blasphemer" and "rioter" by denunciation of clergy. That's why we have the Gospel about the Kingdom of God. Jehovah will put everything in order. He has anointed the king, Jesus Christ. The dead will rise and we will meet our loved ones again! :-)
David, it's called a Diplexer not a Duplexer. The two have totally different uses. I'm a retired TV Radio transmitter engineer, we know the difference! Be correct.
Dad had a true 600 ohm Ladder Line fed 180 meter long line, out of the shack with a big hole in the wall and up 90 foot crank up tower yard arm pulley to the 1/3 acre back yard and a secondary 25 foot monolithic at 90 feet. Happy Father's Day Dad AE7AD from KD7CKT 73s Dad
Instead of spending all that time and money to string up ladder line and a control cable on poles why not go to FlexRadio Systems and get a 6600/8600 with an Antenna Genius switch and simply use either WiFi or fiber optic cable to get to the remote shack? The "shack" would even have to be a building, it could be a just a small enclosure that's meant to hold equipment in remote locations.
? Just use a painters pole or a pole extension for painting or the fiberglass poles for trimming trees. They’re 30 feet, plus they are telescoping ,meaning you can raise it lower it by standing on the ground. These polls cost between 80 to 120 dollars for 30 feet. next thing you need is the guidewires or rope, it’s that simple 😉
Good demo, Dave. I like your rule: "With antennas, everything affects everything". Software is like that - I think of it as a big net full of fish. Change one line and it's like snipping one string and everything moves!
i bought a loop antenna that covers 10khz to 500mhz and i simple can make any wire works better than my loop, Im really impressed with the quality of this Loop Antenna
Not a Ham (Yet! 😉) but I've always been fascinated by the original mechanical ones whenever I came across them. At £3,000 a pop when I saw one priced up (Ad in the _Financial Times,_ early 90s) I knew they were always going to be out of my league though. 💸 Out of curiosity: Once set-up and connected/updated once, will these keep on going in „GeoChron simulation“ mode without any further internet connection? I have a strong preference for working offline as much as possible, and really don't like leaving boxes constantly connected if they don't have to be. 🔒👍
I’m actually trying to set up a phone patch for a commercial user. Basically it’s a summer camp that wants any calls they have to go through their 2 way radio system I set up. I was going to hook a phone patch to one of their base stations. I’m trying to find a phone patch that has inputs/outputs for “call received” and PTT so when they get a call it puts their base station on channel 1 then sends it through.
Very informative. Thank you. I am looking to doing bicycle touring, and I would like to listen to short wave in my tent at night. Fond memories as a boy 50 years ago listening to short wave on a Bakelite radio.
Dave, I'm going to take exception to your advice on this one as copper brade is hydroscopic and will take on moisture outside causing it to deteriorate fairly quickly. The advice from Tim, K3LR at DX Engineering is to use #6 or larger stranded wire from the ground buss bar inside to the ground rod just outside of the shack.
A different camera angle would serve you well. I got tired of noticing your nose hairs. LOL! Okay, enough of that... good job on explaining the differences. It is amazing to me how many hams who do not understand basic antenna principles. Not a criticism just an observation.
