The WAU at first glance: Silly name, unassuming, seems vague. The WAU in reality: Terrifying, mother/father of monstrosities that rival Lovecraft, a machine with no concept of the damage it has done.
this whole " coin tose" was just BS. And everyone could understand that except Simon. it was to give Simon some hope of escaping. He wouldn´t help with the mission otherwise.
SOMA really is a piece of art, absolute timeless masterpiece. Man I'd be so hyped for a deeper dive into the universe, seeing what may have unfolded on other stations or humanity's struggle on the ark, trying to somehow get another shot at interacting with the real world. But I'm also scared that could mess it up, so maybe just keep it the way it is. ^^
I always wanted to end up in a San Junipero-esque paradise after death but since delving down the SOMA rabbit hole my mind has been entirely changed D:
Some science stuff: O2 isn’t present in space, so it would be hard for blood to dry up. The earth is constantly pulling us while we are exerting a pulling force on it. This force is measured through the equation F = gMm/r where M is the mass of the earth and g is the acceleration of gravity. Assuming the mass of blood is heavier than the moon, the blood oceans would constantly exert a pulling force on the moon, thereby staying on the moon rather than floating off into space. My guess is that the rapture was some sort of event that increased the atmospheric pressure of the moons substantially, thereby crushing all humans at once and creating the blood pools. Since moons are relatively small, it’s possible the inhabitants were close enough for blood to mix. The surviving creatures could be those able to withstand high pressures, such as deep ocean creatures. I’m also wondering if the blood oceans were caused by failed experiments to set up water sources on the moons to create living resources.
Man when the game ended and Katherine died out and simon was alone, that shit broke me. I was like dude, how is he gonna sit there all alone? All he can do is remove the power pack himself, or open up the helmet and let the pressures of the ocean destroy the device. he has to kill himself or sit there and die at the bottom of the ocean scared and alone in pitch black.
"The coin toss" is so stupid as an argument. Even stupid, uneducated me at the start of the game understood that the Simon brain, or in the Simon(2), Simon(3) cases i dont know what is, contains your "real identity" and can't be transfered. I imagined the scans as an offspring, like you sharing 50% DNA with your kids. Think of the other 50% is that what happens after the scan, and how other entities live their "life" after.
so, the description on hof data is moved on a computer is incorrect, though only a little, in a way that makes things even more destressing for this context. Data on a computer isn't DELETED when you move it. It's marked for deletion on the disk. All previously marked areas will be overwritten before that inactive data you marked, and it just sits there waiting for oblivion until you've rewritten enough data on the disc that it would have fully filled the empty space since that cloned data was tagged for deletion.
Pretty sure "Simon is in a simulation" doesn't refer to coma, it refers to the purpose for which the original scan was made - to put it through simulations to find the best course of treatment for real Simon. That was honestly what I originally thought the plot of the game was.
@@romanr1592 Oh lol ah shit if I realised that I would've talked about it cuz that's pretty interesting to me who didn't even think about that possibility when I first started playing.
I admit that the author could have chosen a better way to describe FTL than "A hidden gem", but I think people pointing out are ignoring a piece of the puzzle, while it is a well known title and much beloved it has a niche aspect to it that makes it seem more obscure than it is, which exists in spite of its mainstream popularity. This is why it feels like "a hidden gem" even though it very obviously isn't.
Lmfao I already changed the title haha, but yeah, I originally named the video a hidden gem for the exact reasons you mentioned Edit: I forgot that the title is still baked into the video rip
Personally I like the idea that the quiet rapture was the result of some unknown rule of the universe or effect. Makes it scientific and seem like the universe is a cruel and unforgiving place...
"trees are the main providers of oxygen" Completely wrong. The main provider of oxygen on Earth is Phytoplankton. Give the fucking microorganisms some credit.
11;38 That, and she has had years if Simons to perfect this if you consider it a parrellel with the digital recreation you as Simon and Catherine make in a computer just to get a code.
The sad thing is, what you said about "not even the author thought of it" probably applies to most of this game's lore. He had an aesthetic, he had a few spooky sentences, and that was enough to ship the game on.
I always let everything die in SOMA. I like to think of Simon as the last caretaker, quenching the few flickering candles left and shutting down the planet for its long rest. With the tides, the sun, and the fish population, something else will come around; maybe they'll find the ARK. Also, I think Simon is as dense as he is because if he immediately grasped the concept of the Copy/Paste mechanic then the devs were running the risk of outpacing any players who were having similar trouble with it. You have to make sure everyone can understand the story so it helps to make it as clear as possible. His density also helps with the emotional throughline, as he's genuinely excited about the ARK, and it helps Catherine keep him motivated in spite of the relatively obvious flaw in his expectations.
correction: david syzmanski didn't make the other games in the dreadx collection. just squirrel stapler. each game is made by a guest developer. i played it, its pretty fun. none of the others come close to squirrel stapler though.
frogfish do look like that from the front, so i think it's an accurate description. you're not wrong to say that it looks like an anglerfish, as they are very closely related creatures.
