Holy crap....this is too hard to believe but it's so true. My generator is brand new with only 10 hours on it. Same issue, the darn thing would run for about 1 hour and the stall out. After watching this video, I noticed my oil was at the full mark, maybe even a little higher. I sucked out about 8 ounces, which dropped the oil level to about mid way on the dip stick, and my problem was solved. Had the generator running for 3 straight hours without any stalling issues. Thanks so much for putting this video out there!!!!
Man thank you ! I didn’t have any problem until I changed my oil . Since the I’ve had problems between 15 minutes and an hour shut down . Luckily I haven’t lost money over it yet . I have an appointment next month at an Rv deal ship . I’ve talked to Conan techs and few times . Nobody mentioned this . Even when I told them that I had no problem until I changed oil . I was told to plan on a minimum of $500 to $1000 to diagnose it . Because it has no code ???? Well long story short . It’s running like a top . Thank you so much !
Thanks for this video. While changing out the fuel pump on my boss's RV I accidentally flipped that circuit breaker. Watched your video and it's working now. Thanks Again!
Thank you I'm in Florida 10 12 2024 during hurricane milton with power from my rv generator .. your video helped me , it was the switch on the generator in the off position.
Off topic, my PTO handle is fairly loose in the non-engage higher position. I was curious if yours is also loose? I tried to tighten the pivot bolt but its tight. My PTO works fine, but that handle seems loose (has a little side to side action). Maybe thats the way its supposed to be. The cable guide looks fine too. This is the assembly just to the right of the filter area and also has a safety button.
WONDERFUL i had this problem and was about to go on a trip ,, oh no now an expensive repair .. but wait this man had the answer YEAH i took about 4 ounces out of mine and it started working again THANK YOU THANK YOU
Found this video after Hurricane Helene in 2024. The entire city is without power, and I was thrilled to be able to use my RV and it's generator. AC wouldn't work. I prayed and found your video. So, at 2:30 am, I flipped that switch and voila, there's AC power. Blessings to you for making these videos ❤
Looks easy but the plastic makes me nervous! Thanks for your video, about to do the first change on my wife’s brand new Encore and thought I’d better consult RU-vid first! Lol
Too much oil will buy ld up crankcase pressure.....can push out oil seals makin a big messand alot if uneccessary work .make sure your crankcase vents are clean and breathing
6 years later you saved me a WORLD of headache. I am restoring an old 1978 Itasca and could not figure out why the generator was not providing ANY AC power.... I had no idea the shore power cable need to plugged into the Powerbox that was just hanging in the opening! Working great now!
Holy smokes!!! I have a 2022 Onan 2.5kW LPG generator with 38 hours that kept shutting down after 20 to 30 minutes. I'd restart it only to have it run for 10 or so minutes and then the generator would then shut down again. I got under my coach to check the oil level and sure enough it was overfilled. Yesterday afternoon I removed the recommended amount of oil. I verified the oil level on the dipstick and then restarted the generator. It ran for an hour and half without an issue. It purred like a kitten. I hope the folks at Cummins are paying attention as well as all the RV dealerships. Thank you!!!!!
Question, is your flames too high? Because I just got one and on the 4 main burners the flames seem too high yellow. I’ve adjusted the vents and reset the regulator. Is this normal for this type of grill?
I just had to have a new engine put in my 2019 Jeep Compass back in May. Now in August I just got my car back from having a new transmission and radiator put in🤦🏾♀️ My car transmission cooler was leaking internally causing coolant to get into the transmission and transmission fluid getting into the coolant system. I’m seeing too many online saying they’re having these same kind of issues with their Jeeps, this is crazy!!! At this point they’ve built me a new car under the hood.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this! Just started having this “start/stop” problems… I run my generator under load each month for one hour. 12 months later it now does this “start/stop “… Hopefully this will fix problem.
Man I really appreciate your video , was about to replace filter and pump was on way to sturgis , watched your video , stopped by a hardware store bought a turkey injector to pull some oil out and BAM !! problem fixed .. thanks for your video
I understand this model has a 3.6 penstar engine, the upraded version which has a 11.3.1 compression ratio so definitely would take advantage of premium gas.
Do you have to put oil on the oil filter!? Like as lube or can you put it dry as is? Just wondering cuz my old car the mechanics always put oil on filter but here you didn't. Just making sure
The amount you have to spray they last for like what two cleanings? Plus, you might want to do a final rinse with distilled water. Salts and minerals in the water will eventually clog the pores.
That fixed mine. It would run about 15 minutes then act like it was running out of gas. I would let it cool, then it would start again. I called Camping World. they told me I would have to take it to the Cummins dealer. I watched this video and pulled enough oil to get it right above the add mark and it runs perfect. They need to put out a service bulletin on this issue. There's no telling how much money has been wasted on such a simple fix.
Thank you!!!! The one time we are dry camping the generator stops working! Although my generator is a 6500 onan marquis gold there are 2 breaker on the side of the housing listed in the operators manual that I did not see. Thanks again for making this video!!
I saw another video where a guy relocated his fuel pump/filter outside of the case, because his fuel was vaporizing before it got to the carb. That could be a fix all in itself!
I have the 4000 and will never waste my money on another Cummins Onan gen. If you have ever taken one out of your rv you will find that these were engineered to be not user friendly. Cummins has done themselves a disservice by making junk like this. It’s like being in a bad marriage.
Glory be!!! It was a serendipity that I found your video. My Mantra is "little to no effort with little to no cost". It was fulfilled in this easy fix!
