I graduated from POST when I was 32 yrs old and started out as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff and a Park Ranger for Utah Parks & Rec (now Division of Wildlife) and decided to go full time and hired on with Sheriff's Office when I was 34 yrs old. I am 60 yrs old and now trying to figure out when I am going to retire.

Firstly I just want to say I love your content, it’s so incredibly educational and inspiring to me, as I am a 19 year old girl and am looking to go into law enforcement and policing, your videos are beyond helpful :) I just wanted to ask a question regarding what you studied in university? Are there any degrees you would recommend for a job in policing or anything education wise I should be aware of before persuading a job such as this haha ❤️❤️❤️
Question I see everyone saying on every single video for men to go buy a suit but what if you don't have the money for a suit and you just have money for a regular dress shirt and dress pants Is that still okay
Statist extortionists (cops) are dumb order followers. They violate constitutional rights on a daily basis. They don’t care if you sue because they don’t pay out of pocket. They love violating rights and arresting folks just to waste their time/money within the court system. Watch any 1A/2A auditors on RU-vid if you think I’m wrong.
So a big reason most end themselves is because the trauma that comes with the job. You need to be strong-minded and have a healthy coping mechanism outside of your work. I am so lucky I get to Surf to decompress and re-evaluate the current workweek. I read a story that explains how trauma literally changes your brains chemistry and functions! "The Body Keeps The Score" by Bessel Van Der Kolk is the books name and I highly suggest everyone to read it. This professor has been studying Trauma & its effects since the Vietnam War! Again, all of this is easier said than done but we also need to maintain a firm relationship with your "Higher Power" whether it's Catholicism, Judaism, Christianity, etc as this will help you in this tough field. Always be compassionate to your peers as we all struggle mentally at some point in our lives. Whenever I am stressed I simply do Yoga, Surf, workout, then read my bible, or a book from my home library. I limit my screen time and try to socialize with my brothers, or parents. At the end of the day if we don't learn healthy coping mechanisms we will ruin our brains & feed into Negative Energy! Tomorrow I have my Panel Interview with Santa Barbara Police and truthfully speaking I am not nervous at all. I am more so stoked because even though I am only 28, my life experiences up to this point have greatly humbled me & shown me that there is beauty behind every struggle. God won't give you something you cannot handle! Let your Higher Power be the true healer, not the booze! I am not sure if you have surfing at your disposal but it's one of the best coping mechanisms one can do! Connecting with the ocean and its immense power truly do humble you in a way that I sometimes cannot explain. I have never gone home after surfing & said, "Man that was a terrible session". I am always thankful God has allowed me to Surf and see life in a different perspective. Hug your loved ones and always be thankful for your support group especially in this time where mental health is truly ignored or stigmatized for us Males. I worked in Law Enforcement for over 18+ years and two years as a Detective. I keep physically fit. I am 54. I was certified in three States. Aches and pains are part of the "job." My cousin served 34 years in Law Enforcement. At 54, I've recruited by Arkansas State patrol, Georgia State patrol and other Agencies down South. Experience and being an Law Enforcement officer for so many years is beneficial on the streets. It depends on state of mind, prowess, and attitude. Seasoned officers handle stressful situations more professionally. Back in 2003, we hired a retired Army Sgt at the age of 56. He worked an additional 20 years as a Police Officer. He could hold his own being older. Becoming a Police Officer is a calling, not a job.
Retired big city ghetto cop here. Don't enter the profession. Late in life? Working graveyards is brutal. The work is great but trying to sleep during the day is very hard for many of us.
I agree... I don't want to be 70 yrs old and look back on my life and say, "I wish I would have....." I am taking the PFIT for Illinois State Police soon st 44 yrs old. I'm soooo excited!
I've commanded by officers and agencies we work in tandem I drop the right information to for them to keep them safe. Because I just know how to keep everyone safe. I love it!
However, we have a mutual respyfor the law and we love helping people so that's why we are friends. I have had to let police officers not to speak to us in a manner that is disrespectful because they don't know how to do my job and I don't know how to do theirs. I will listen what they want but don't disrespect me Infront of my peers. My peers respect me and I have been told by Sgts I do my job acceptional.
I'm a citizen at my agency that has a TCOLE license not for actual police officers but for communications and I love my job, I answer 911 and non emergency calls and I'm a liason to our units. My friend. That is a sgt officer pointed me in the direction of this job.
what is it like with kids? Are you very involved with their life or do you miss alot of events/time with them? this is the only thing that I am so hesitant with. I do not want to miss my kids growing up.
I understand your concern and it can be more difficult until you have more time on and can get to more ideal family shifts. I had the time on but also did night and overlapping shifts to try to be there as much as I could when promotions threw me onto undesirable shifts and assignments. I don’t go to every single little thing my kids do, but I am there for the important things and when they want me there most, or are sick, etc. it’s a balancing act but I feel like it’s like that with any job. I would recommend seeking out a department that can give you an idea of what time frame you would be looking for for what you want. But I really feel like the only job you miss nothing with is if you are a stay at home mom. 💙
Not at all do I want to bypass being a parent but where I’m at right now in my parenthood journey is realizing that if all that I am making is minimum wage and raising my kids in that, then how much better could I make their life be if I was pursuing a career in law enforcement and actually affording the bills, a nicer place to live, maybe even vacations, splurge on their birthdays etc. without stressing that I can’t even afford their birthday when certain important bills haven’t been paid. That for me is the cross roads, I’m like what am I even doing here. I can’t even give them the life I want them to have with this lifestyle and I have a BA degree in criminal justice like why don’t I use it. And so I’m here watching your video trying to figure out if I can balance being in my kids life and being in law enforcement. Some departments here do a 12 hour shift work week and I’m like 😲😱 how could I make that work while being a mom?
We do not normally do 12 hour shifts, but will for details and special events. It is very difficult to balance everything and do all you want for your children. It can take some time to get to the shift, off days, etc you may want and for that reason I would encourage you to really closely examine the department you are trying to go to. Any time a mom is working outside of the home, I think it is hard but especially with support you can make law enforcement work and still be the mom you want to be 💙
I want to be a Police Officer and I would pick the Vest Carrier when I become a cop and the things that I would put on the Vest are Handcuffs Pepper Spray,Magazines,Flashlight Asp and Tourniquet on the Vest and I would put the Firearm,Taser, Radio Glove Pouch and a Pair of Handcuffs on the Belt
Just stumbled on this video. I’ve always wanted to become a cop. I lost 80lbs and then Covid happened and I had to take care of my wife and daughter for the time being. Fast forward 4 years I’ve started a construction company but don’t feel accomplished, still want to provide for my community while having that adrenaline rush. Just not sure if it’s worth giving up on or being too old to start (30).

I really appreciate you making these videos. I applied to be an ECO but I now realize I won’t make it through. I regrettably listened to bad advice to lie about drug use on my application. I said no to any drug use on my F3, but I am a frequent medical marijuana user and I thought if I stopped using, I would pass the medical evaluation by the time I got to it and everything would be fine. I see now how dumb that was because I didn’t know about the CVSA asking those questions. I have been sent a conditional job offer but now knowing this I don’t see a point on going forward. I was really looking forward to possibly going into this position because I have always dreamed of helping people in trouble. I don’t want to give up, especially because after listening to your video, marijuana use is the one thing that would disqualify me (and deciding to lie about it 😞) The question I have now is if I withdraw from the application process now to save myself the shame, will I be disqualified from reapplying? How long is acceptable to not use marijuana?
I have no idea what an ECO is but if you have been recently using marijuana that is going to disqualify you from virtually all processes. I would encourage you to just not use it period. Even if it is legal where you are. Most agencies let you withdraw, you don’t have to tell them exactly why but they may push more to know why if you apply specifically with them again. Every agency has different standards for now long ago drug use has been, but if I had to guess, I would say years

Hello 😊 love your channel, I am pursuing in being a cop . Pass my cjbat exam and doing my basic motor test and swimming soon. So nice to get input on a mom/cop because I struggle a bit thinking if I do my career and being mom can I balance it. But I am also RBT and trying to pursue law enforcement field .
I have met many officers who dot want kids cause of what they do. But there are several reasons why people do or do not want kids. I know that for me I can not have kids myself but I would consider adopting.
