Another one of the coolest magic moments I've ever seen (I think cut for time here) is when Elsa throws her backup knife at Reinhard. He doesn't make a Jedi hand gesture, his eyes don't flash, there's no glowing shield. He didn't do anything, nothing special happened. The knife just veers off course like it's afraid of him, like space has a different shape, like it was never a possibility.

Its interesting in a way the heros and villians are harnessing very similar powers. Each of their individual pieces are coming to their own resolution emotionally and mentally and affecting the sum total however the main difference is possibly intent. For AFO this is a game, a tactical game, a strategic war campaign to take over the world and to that end he has learned how people work REALLY well to the point he lets them roam and evolve on their own. For the heros however it is much less manipulative.

I love that you are already thinking about the perspectives of the characters, the larger plot is great but I think Re:Zero shines when you analyze various characters. Just for clarity: when Reinhart says his sword can only be pulled for a worthy opponent he's not being cocky, it literally has a binding spell that won't let it be unsheathed unless it detects a significant threat. Also, you were on the right track about the insignia, they didn't animate it clearly but the gem in the center was glowing; having your insignia stolen means you can't safeguard something valuable but showing up with an insignia doesn't grant you the right to the throne unless you're worthy

I think a lot of people want to argue and/or be right about something. I remember a situation in my life, it wasn't at all a serious conversation but I was talking to my Dad about Pokemon when I was maybe around 12. I was always prided myself on knowing everything about Nintendo and thought I was just right about everything. My Dad was trying to explain to me that Gamefreak (the company that makes Pokemon) was not a first party developer in Nintendo. I argued against him for probably about 20 minutes with no proof other than I didn't want to be wrong. Eventually he just went "Okay. You're right." and in that moment I felt very stupid. Because I knew he was right, and all I was doing was trying to win an argument. But when he gave me that win I felt sort of empty. This is obviously not an extreme situation, but I have seen it a lot since where people are just ready to argue and will continue arguing even when you agree or give them everything they want. It reminds me of what you were saying about Shigaraki. I don't know where the story is going but I can't think of anything that will convince him to stop. It would be more painful for him to accept he is wrong and just give in.
@AGoodwinTV
@AGoodwinTV 10 часов назад
I can so strongly relate to this story 😂 Thanks for sharing. I wonder what it takes in situations like these... Brute force doesn't work, it's not necessarily reason that's leading the way... The problem also gets compounded by time and severity. The deeper someone has gone the less they want to admit they were wrong because of the personal reckoning that would invite. I think it maybe is something like actually loving the person and not having that feeling moved or shaken by whatever it is they're going through. Maybe another angle is sacrifice. For example if Deku were to willingly sacrifice something for Shigaraki's benefit, that would be a stunning blow to his theory that people / the world don't care.
@TheZebbga
@TheZebbga 4 часа назад
@@AGoodwinTV It is strange and I have learned that unless it is someone I actually know or care about, I stop trying to convince people when they clearly want to argue, which was a hard thing to learn/accept because I like trying to help. But you can't help someone if they aren't willing to help themselves. For me as a kid, it was the need to be right. Pride I think. Since I was the "Nintendo guy" I didn't want to embarrass myself by getting something wrong. I still hold this a little bit although I am way more accepting to he wrong now haha. I guess when I think about it, this mindset makes sense for Shigaraki because he is basically still a kid. He is still at the maturity level he was at when he accidentally killed his family. We see this when Mirio hits a nerve and he lashes out about having friends. "I have friends! I am right, you are wrong! Let me show you!" I don't know if sacrifice is enough because Bakugo has already (seemingly) sacrificed himself and it seemed to strengthen his resolve. Maybe telling him it wasn't his fault he ended up like this could work but that seems too easy and it is implying he is blameless which isn't true. Maybe convincing him he can have friends and be loved with destroying everything? Maybe show him that he is causing more destruction than his Dad did. A shock like that might hit him hard.

As mixed(bordering on negative) as my feelings are on the "final war" in general, Gentle coming back is easily one of the two absolute best moments in this entire arc (the second one is coming soon and oh boy. I need to get my tissues ready...) for me and one of the best in general. There is a line in this episode which many don't pay that much attention to but I think it might be one of the most important lines said in the show "Villans are still humans". Tsukauchi is right, and it does highlight the systemic/social issue of the world of BNHA, that a lot of the "Villains" in the show are byproduct of how quickly and eagerly society slaps the label of a Villan on a person that often does not deserve it. Gentle never wanted to be a villain, and his heart was never into it while he was, same with Spinner and many others. I wish the series delved more into that side of it but then I doubt that would be popular enough to do...
@AGoodwinTV
@AGoodwinTV 10 часов назад
I think it's in there! Ultimately, like some of the antagonists of the show, some viewers may not connect with that idea immediately, which is ok. But it's there in feeling :) Connected very strongly to this idea for me personally is the idea of difficulty. It's not easy to deal with everything situation and every individual on a case-by-case, nuanced basis that allows for time and the ability to grow. It's not easy to take the highest form of the argument and admit gaps in understanding or knowledge. There are so many counter incentives. But the heroes refuse to shy away from the challenge. They have a lot more to do but they're happy (?) to do it because they understand its importance.

All for one is basically just the biggest enigma because as far as we know so far in the story there isn't really a reason for his actions as a motivation. Every other major villain has somthing even someone as horrible as Muscular is at least driven by sadism. All for one has already proven that he just does things because he simply does them. He wants to be evil but he also readily admits that he himself doesent actually care wheter his actions are good or evil as long as everyone else sees them as evil. He basically just wants to be the most hated person in existance for all eternity. He is basically larping as Satan just because he can. We also see that despite to a dgree understanding emotions if they are negative and by that way being capabel of manipulating people he himself is incapable of feeling anything beyond the basics. Even tough he probably legitimetly hates All might for crippeling him he himself is so emotionally stunted and sociopathic that he can't truly feel it or comprehend it. Even after actual decades of chasinh after his brothers vestige he still could not steal it because there is just fundamentally somthing wrong with him. Taking pleasure in his evil isn't his driving goal its just a bonus he gets while doing what he does. We see that even from the begining of what we have seen of him he took advantage of others pain by giving quirks as selfdefense and taking quirks because people where discriminated against. He has basically always been feeding off of others emotions because he doesent really have any in him. In the vigelanties manga he basically spouses that a villain is someone with a uncontrollable quirk who gives into their power. At points All for one feels less like a actual human and more like a fleshbag for his quirk and that maybe deep down he is simply consuming everything around him because its the only impuls that exists within him. Being a super villain is basically the only thing to give the consumption any meaning and thus he throws himself headlong into this mindset. It also speaks volumes that All for ones unknowable evil for evils sake still makes more sense than whatever Shigaraki is trying to pill. At the end of the day Shigaraki is basically All for one without even the pretentions that he is a higher class of villain or simply evil. Shigaraki is on some level probably worse because All for one at least has the exuse that he genuenly seems incapable of actually fathoming emotions witch has made him what he is while Shigaraki seemingly can and he still mindlessly goes with the derangedment of his master. All for one at least has a end goal in ruling the world in perpetuity while Shigaraki is still just destroying for its own sake with some deluded rambling to try to legitimise it. After everything Shigaraki never truly grew as a person as at every turn he just doubbled and trippeld down on his delusions with some completley contradictory additions like maybe keeping some people alive for the leauge to torture witch logistically just doesent make a lick of sense. Shigaraki being such a empty nothingness of a human makes sense as All for one raised him. The Muscular episode isn't beloved because of Muscular himself but because it was the first time Deku truly was a hero and saved someone on his own merits. Gentel and La brava are here witch forces people to realize that they can't justify their arc as filler and have to accept that it really was just mid. The theme or redemption being somewhat possible for everyone is even more muddeld than it already was because Gentel was literaly thebonly prisoner who didn't just want to go out and cause destruction. The only villains to so far actually be redemable in anyway and who actually want it are either villains against their will like Aoyama, already heroes despite their questionable actions, Lady Nagant and tecknically Endeavour even though he wasen't really a villain in a narrative sense as he was always on the good side and did nothing to really undermind that beyond being a prick and Gentel and La brava who at the end of the day where more of a nuicsanse in universe and Gentel also wanted to be a hero. The heteromorph mob isn't really counted because that isn't really a character. Stain is questionable since he hasn't really changed sides and just isn't activly with the villains. And even his motivation was to ultimately help hero society even though it backfired horribly. Moral of the story you better want to be a hero or just be content as a civillian otherwise you are probably a deranged murder at least on some level.

I'm not sure if Deku would have been able to, or that it wouldn't have come too late after Twice did a lot of harm, but I am confident my boy Jin was reachable eventually. The Twice-Hawks moment is difficult, because from Hawk's perspective it was the only thing he could do to prevent a calamity. So I can't hate him for it and I don't really feel I can pass judgement on him or his decision. It would have been insanely challenging and dangerous to try to solve the problem through non lethal means. But then again, taking on the hardest level of the challenge to do the right thing is the plus ultra way, and one of the core elements of what makes the students so impressive.

Y’know I actually kinda feel the opposite about AfO, I feel that deep down he is truly pathetic. Obviously his strategic mind is unparalleled and a lot of that is knowing how people will react emotionally, but that is mostly through fear, such as his control over the Auoyamas (idk how to spell it). I feel that this season and especially the last few episodes shows how little he thinks of the average person, he planned for Spinner to have his mind or goals changed so he gave him that quirk to make him think less, but he didn’t do anything to deal with the crowd, I don’t think anywhere in his plans did he truly expect the crowd to just stop without the violence just continuing, he may have thought of it as a possibility but never expected that to pass. In a similar vain he would’ve never expected Nagant to come into play either, he planned for her to be changed by Deku so he gave her that explosion quirk, but her surviving and persevering to get a shot in while still in bandages is something All for One would’ve never expected because it goes against his very nature. He, as literally stated earlier in the season, is very cowardly. The only time he went into battle without being at full capacity or having some trump card like the Eri juice was when he purposefully got captured to have Shigaraki grow, on top of that it’s shown he never takes responsibility when things go wrong. When Deku beats the crap out of him in Shiggy’s body he blames the arena and Deku’s teammates and everything else, when his own quirks are fighting against him he says it’s the fault of them being copies, I could go on. In a similar vain, he can’t comprehend being wrong, when in fights his greatest strength is his ability to manipulate his opponents, mentioning the Shigaraki-Shimura connection to All Might and bringing up how Dabi was saved by his doing against Endeavor, but when Hawks is able to see through the lies and brings up the true points against what All for One says you can tell just how much it irks him, he cannot fathom not having the upper hand in the mental game because that is his greater strength. TLDR; All for One is the most pathetic main character because he does not have the same convictions as the other heroes and villains, and he expects the worst in the average person because that’s the only thing a coward like him could understand.

This episode had me belly laughing so hard while I just sobbed uncontrollably. This episode OUT OF NOWHERE is another masterpiece that ONLY Horikoshi could provide us. I don’t think there’s a single person in the world that would make an episode like this. And it be THIS emotional and fantastic. This episode is the EPITOME of My Hero Academia. As in to say you will find yourself in a place where you HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS HAPPENING, YOU FEEL EVERY EMOTION, and there’s nothing in this that isn’t incredibly thought provoking and worth exploring EVERYONE that has ever existed in this show. To start off, we have Kurogiri and Toga. A combination that can decimate EVERYTHING as it stands. Endless copies going to EVERY battlefield and throw everything in every direction. Dabi has arrived to the AFO field and has already created a massive fire ring to trap EVERYONE, combining rainy conditions, temperature too hot for people to operate in, smother them with people….OH AND ALL FOR ONE IS IN HIS PRIME WITH NO ACTIVE OPPONENTS. It’s all Uraraka can do to chase Toga, AND she has to use her buried emotions for Deku to grab the true Toga’s attention. The AFO battlefield went from a place of major victory to hell on earth. Which means AFO is right at home. There’s a number of heroes that have completely lost their usefulness, and worse, there’s not a single person seeing the state of the battlefield that doesn’t realize what had to have happened at the other fields. We learned this in the 1st war. You can have a 99.999999% success for a mission. But if even that 0.000001% chance goes out of hand in this world, you LOST. Only about 150 people out of 100,000 escaped the 1st war and THIS is what they got to. And only 10 or so villains are doing THIS. JUST Kurogiri escaped, JUST Toga escaped, JUST Dabi escaped. And they are making HELL ON EARTH untapped. Endeavor is down an arm and has maximized his power to the max he can operate at against AFO, Hawks has been horribly scewered and bludgeoned a number of times, and they have to completely change gears in REAL TIME. Jiro can still count her blessings for her loss of an ear considering her and Tokoyami’s decision to confront AFO. So it’s something. AFO gets to just think about his countless contingencies hard pressing the result he wants and knows it’s just time to go to Shigaraki. His work here is done. Hawks has decided his opponent. He has to keep AFO here. And away from AFS. AFO just does what he does best and stirs the pot on EVERY decision they make, showing with just 4 people, everyone is VERY outnumbered. (Also I’m not sure if AFO can take fusion quirks he makes like Kurogiri’s warp gate or if he’s only able to separate the gloop warp and Shirakumo’s cloud quirk combining the range and warp capacity. Might be one of his few limits) Endeavor HAS to face Dabi as there’s simply no one else that could keep his attention. (And I think Toga even stops attacking Endeavor FOR Dabi’s sake) There’s too many choices. But only one forced bad decision. Everyone already knows they have to do the impossible worst choice as it’s simply the only choice available to make as everything else disappears. Need more hell? Kurogiri TRULY decided to go to the AFS field. And he knocks over Monoma. Eye contact broken. Hit his head and we don’t even see him get back up so we don’t know if he can copy Toga’s copied quirk double for our team. Aizawa can’t do anything with such numbers, that’s one of his weaknesses. Erasure…is off the board. And that means that Deku now has to face his physical equal when he’s using all 8 quirks of OFA….with UNCOUNTABLE quirks. The battlefield is breaking down meaning AFS could get to open ground and make giant decay waves. No repairs are available to make. Skeptic is steering the flying island AND the evacuation blocks Nezu made. And the 2nd’s quirk recoil has arrived. We now know why using Gearshift was AS stupid as using 100% to break his arms to cross the ocean. The 2nd’s recoil is suffocation and the 2nd is ordering Deku NOT TO STOP. And there’s 6 OTHER recoils that can be found if Deku is not careful. And even though Shigaraki appears from within AFO CONCLUSIVELY not as Tenko, he STILL WANTS GLOBAL DESTRUCTION. He’s not any SAFER of an opponent than AFO regardless of skill difference. And he’s HEALING AGAIN. And Deku is the ONLY person strong enough to catch UA here. The jets can’t fire their lasers at Twice due to Aizawa, Monoma, Present Mic, and Manual ALL being there. What could get worse. (Mandalay is 100% proving why she’s my favorite of the Wild Wild Pussycats though.) And even if I said VERBATIM what happened next. There’s not a SOUL ON EARTH that would believe me. I actually had to stop myself from doing EXACTLY THAT when a few mysteries showed their faces. And those mysteries? What was Skeptic’s obsessive mistake that was SO MUCH WORSE and a genuine failure for him than unleashing Twice’s full potential AGAINST HIM, AND letting Hawks slip past him despite his surveillance to start the 1st war. Two MASSIVE errors but they don’t compare to THIS mistake. I COULD HAVE AND WANTED TO SAY “CLEARLY this was because Skeptic lost ALL HIS MAJOR operating systems in Feel Good Inc to CAT MEMES HES AFRAID OF MADE BY LA BRAVA.” Because THAT IS WHAT HORIKOSHI DECIDED TO WRITE AS A CANON EVENT IN HIS STORY. I don’t know what any moderator would’ve done other than give me MASSIVE side eye the rest of the show if I didn’t provide chapters or actual line quotes. I didn’t for every manga reader’s sanity, but I SO wanted to stress test this. This girl is making UA not COMPLETELY fall because she’s having a HACKING BATTLE WITH SKEPTIC AND WON. WHO CARES IF NEZU LOOKS COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT WITHOUT BEING A VILLAIN. WE HAVE CAT MEMES. (Nezu is now officially my least favorite character in MHA due to him not being a traitor and THIS is what happened to his heroic contributions as the SMARTEST CHARACTER IN THE SHOW. But I’ll take one COMPLETELY squandered character if it makes me laugh THIS HARD.) And Skeptic screaming about liberation just runs RIGHT into Ms Joke, Grand (Yo Shindo), and Hound Dog. With such hell happening across this episode, we need a hero. NAY, WE NEED A REAL MAN. We need a GENTLEMAN. The other is major mystery I had to stop myself from saying VERBATIM is when AFO escaped prison, he also attacked 7 other prisons and only 6 had full jailbreaks with 1 persevering. OBVIOUSLY GENTLE CRIMINAL SOLO’D EVERY SINGLE PRISONER WITH ONLY MINOR INJURIES BECAUSE THIS MAN IS A FREAKING HERO. (Horikoshi WROTE this and I LOVE IT.) This fine high end Gentleman must have only gotten like a year TOPS for his crimes and was likely pardoned on the SPOT for this. And he ON HIS OWN MERITS BOUNCES ACROSS THE OCEAN TO CATCH UA with the POWER OF LOVE. I feel like my head was torn off. Gentle Criminal did this to save everyone BUT ESPECIALLY the boy who saved him while showing his endless passion to make someone smile And do you need MORE insanity?! Well making a pinpoint shot from an INSANE distance from the hospital, with an arcing bullet that pierces OFA’s 45% energy armor, ALSO pierces AFS’s All-Might-steroid body. The big feats are more the distance, the variety, and the accuracy over the speed and power. Lady Nagant who ONLY in a Horikoshi world would survive by her…let’s go her will and her being buff. Buffness is immortality in MHA. And everyone is JACKED. And someone else has left their station to be a complete LEGEND. This is MHA at its finest. Just…never stop. This is why this is my favorite show.

To explain how Shigaraki destroyed the barrier: Back when AFO got angry over Monoma and the barrier holding back Shigaraki, he tried to force the body once again to adapt to the situation to be able to use quirks, instead causing Shigaraki's body to inflate from all that built up power. Once Monoma was knocked out and Shigaraki's quirks were unlocked again, his body burst, releasing everything within and further damaging the mind merge.

I love how you put AFO character and its also kinda important to the story. The guy just fucking loves what he's doing so much so that he doesn't really have any hatred, which ironically is what he needs to take OFA, that's why he groomed Shigaraki to hate the world.
