This is a reminder for everybody here who has signed up for skillshare to cancel their membership. Don't be like me who checked it out and forgot about it. They are so annoying when it comes to refunds.

I want to start a business or growing audience in Cara, unfortunately it is difficult for me as cartoon artist. The art are mostly Anime or Semi-realism art, which I am really drowning. I hope Cara give opportunity for fellow tiny artists, like me.

I always appreciate that when you give advice, you're down to earth and honest about what we should expect. Seeing people making crazy amounts of orders and selling hundreds of items is a bit demotivating sometimes, because it makes you feel like you have no chance of reaching that level. I'm watching your video while I work on my first clay keychains! I can't wait to open my shop, but yeah, I expect it to be quite slow for a while. I'm just trying to figure out which platform to go with. Shopify seems to be the most popular, but in CAD, it's quite expensive, so I feel like it won't even pay for itself for a few months. hehe. However, I'm pretty turned off from Etsy these days - it doesn't seem to be friendly to handmade sellers anymore, and so many people seem to lose their shops or their money - so it seems risky as well. I have more thinking to do, for sure. For now, I'll just work on creating a selection of products, and go from there, I suppose. :)

That's so exciting that you're starting a shop! You're right, it's tricky to know which platform to go with, and they'll likely all have pros and cons. You can always start on the lowest cost option as a trial run to test your products out and then once you know you have customers you could move across to something like Shopify

Hey! There's me! Thanks for including my question in the video! It's been a struggle with youtube because it's not even the financial "pay off" but the lack of engagement sometimes ㅠㅠ I really appreciate your insight and will try your approach :) P.S. nice dog close ups :)

I know what you mean, it's so hard to not feel discouraged when engagement is low! My channel has been getting less engagement for a while now, and it's difficult to know whether I need to change something or if that's just the ebb and flow of things. I try and focus less on the numbers and more on the individual people who I can help, although it's sometimes easier said than done!

@@MimimooIllustration thank you for your reply! I know you're right - but I think for my channel since it is in such the early stages and it's not super "educational," I wonder if *I am* bringing any value to anyone - so I am always wondering if I should hard pivot. I've enjoyed your videos for years! It's been great to see your success. From my pov since I'm interested in travel and the freedom of your kind of life - I would of course love to see more behind the scenes & your travels. But I am only one person in your large audience!

@@MimimooIllustration know you are doing a great job ❤ I can’t talk for all audience, but if you have such thoughts, I can at least share my personal experience on why I don’t watch every video lately (but still love this channel a lot). I am in illustration for years, doing it part time. Many of your teaching videos were useful to me too. But mainly I am here for your personal story. It is interesting and inspiring to see how you are growing your illustration career from zero, how you experiment and build a life around your dream. Not so many art channels take their viewer on the journey with them and with such high quality of production. So I get back to this channel to check updates regularly and if videos are vlogs or share business insights, I watch them for granted. if they are „teaching type” - depends if they happen to cover the topics I need. I think the part of audience that is in illustration for longer and loves this channel for vlogs like me might skip some videos for same reasons. Not because something is wrong with them, just because we are not the target audience for some video types.❤

She's decent. I hope to make as much money someday when I get legal, but what the hell? I scale way above higher than this in terms of talent, skill, and hardwork! Think of heaven's throne and hell's pitfire. That's the difference. Someone tell me. Is this really just the standard? This low?

This was such a useful video. Thanks for sharing🥰 I'm watching this off the back of having watched your process video from a year ago, where you used Milanote, and its interesting to see how you're adopting new technologies as part of your workflow. Using generative AI to tailor your mood board is such a clever approach. I think using AI to support, rather than replace, creative activities, is the best attitude to this emerging technology. It doesn't take away from your existing skills and all the creative decisions you're making. Those sleepy mice are so cute!😍 Thanks for breaking this down in a way that makes it so approachable and inspiring❤

ANd this vid gave me so much inspiration on how to make a stamp brush in procreate and I'm now thinking of getting a surface pro laptop tablet combo unit to do things the way you showed them in this video! and how you first painted on paper the brush shape you were going for and then scanning into the program of PS is just about what I do when I first paint a flower shape I love really well and then copy-ing and pasting it into the brush + at the top of the brush dropdown in procreate. But I think I'll try one in all dark color first like a dark black or grey and then after getting the brush right I could just change the color when actually using the brush couldn't I? I've got to try this Immediately! Thanks so much for just that much of a tweaking in my thought process!
@LisaMischelle

because of the sequence of steps you used did you learn this in Uni perhaps? or was it just something that came to you as you taught yourself how to do this? Did you say you were self taught? I don't remember what you said in that last video. 😬😁

This was extemely enjoyable and I find I do my best work while watercoloring if I watch a favorite movie or television series. Like LOTR or Fringe on television! Love it and find it so stimulating to think about.
