@@OvergoWorld I have some follow up questions. If I were to use the divide mainly to read academic papers which small font and narrow line spacing, which of these two is better? On the one hand, Boox Tab X is larger and has all those cool functions to increase the contrast as you demonstrated. On the other hand, Kindle Scribe has a higher dpi which make it to have better contrast.

I got one today. The sound quality was good and the Philips TV automatically recognized the soundbar, BUT: The software is soooooo worse. I'm embarrassed of my experience. I make it as short as possible. 1. It started with getting through the agreement of the sonos app (iOS). There was no way to make the accept button light up. How can something so simply end up so complicated? 2. The app scores 1.2/5 on android. I couldnt even get it installed in the google play store. 3. On an iPad I had more luck, but not for long. Installation is dramatic. 3.1. Pincode on backside didn't work. 3.2. Connect over wifi/ethernet didn't work. 3.3. Connect/pair with microphone didn't work, it didn't even gave audio samples..... 4.I also read complaints about point 1 @ reddit which is 2 weeks old. Does it take so long to fix this? Seems they do give well priority. 5. Another complaint I see @ reddit: 6-8 weeks ago they updated the whole app, which removed stability and functions. I won't recommend it either.

Thank you for your great comparison. You've raised some great aspects to consider. I'm in the market to add one of these devices. I do a ton of reading and, while I do own 2 e-readers at present, I still find myself drawn to physical books where I have to do a lot of highlighting. With a more global life shaping up for next year, I would love to be able to carry around my reading in tablet form. The ability to highlight in color was the main draw for the Air3. I might still consider it, though I'm tempted to order both the Air 3 and a larger BW for my own use-case comparison.
Thank you for your comment. I purchased it for the exact same reason, as I thought I’d use the highlighting feature and view coloured diagrams/charts. In my mind the technology just doesn’t seem ready to give a good colour e-reading experience. When you look at your black and white e-reader, you’ll likely find a much better reading experience because you can read without a frontlight; whereas on the colour device, you have to turn the frontlight up significantly for a decent reading level, even for purely black and white content.
Indeed, that’s a valid point! If a paper screen requires backlighting for comfortable reading and proper contrast, it does raise questions about its practicality compared to traditional screens. After all, the appeal of paper-like displays lies in their readability under natural light.

I have tried that as well. The problem is the HD mode is causing a constant refresh, which is quite distracting. You also have to have the front light on quite a high setting, which zaps the battery and is not as easy on the eyes compared to the black and white BOOX/Kindle devices.
I would agree with regard to the grayscale device, but this colour device just needs the front light on too high a setting, which defeats the purpose of having something easy on the eyes to read.
Could you please share the links of the first image you showed same as the link to the pdf so we can test on our devices and see if our results are the same as yours. In my experience, I just got from Amazon the Boox Air 3c, and my feeling is not as bad as yours, it is actually very good, feeling. And BTW, I still have 20 days to return it if I wasn't thinking that way.
I agree that you can’t compare an OLED screen to an e ink screen, but the comparison shows how washed out the colours are on this device. With the front light set so high, my personal view is that you might as well use an iPad if you really need colour. Otherwise, use the grayscale BOOX device, which is much more comfortable for normal PDF reading where colour is not essential.
With ebook you just configure it to show you the content the way that you don't have to zoom and scroll - to fit the whole page into screen or to show you half-page and then go to the second half immediately by clicking without the smooth movement. If you use it right - it'a great device. You just need to understand its strong and weak sides.
By the way don't use the optical link, Atmos will not work via optical as it has not enough bandwidth to carry all the channel data with the object based data. I own the Samsung HW-Q990D, best purchase i've made in years. One of the best you can get when it comes to price vs quality. The 656 Watts of output is also nothing to laugh at, this thing will shake your home if that's what you want. Watching Godzilla X Kong... When those titans roar... you will hear AND feel it.. the neighbours probably too.
Thanks for your comment. I ended up using the optical link because I was using it on an older TV that did not have the HDMI arc output. I agree with you that going forward, I would be looking at something more reliable like a Samsung soundbar.
Essentially this is the same for all Kaleido 3 color screens, regardless of the manufacturer: washed-out color and poor contrast requiring a backlight. As for ghosting, it can mitigated by super refresh but at the cost of draining the battery very quickly.

Thank you for the real world testing you show here! - Actually I'm positively surprised, I thought that the character Sharpness and speed would be a problem on color E-Ink - but that seems alright, and color is essential to understand many technical drawings. In the right mode the muted colors look okay, and blinking to build a new screen for pages is a minor tradeoff for me.
Thank you for your kind comment. If you do not mind the blinking effect, then I agree with you that having colour can be useful. My only concern is the amount of front light that needs to be activated to view the screen clearly, which detracts from the low light viewing experience that is available on the grayscale devices which are much easier on the eyes.
Why would anyone buy another Sonos product at this day and age? They are outdated and terrible. Completely closed off environment. In fact, I will even go far as to say, I am surprised they are still in business. Too much sizzle, no steak. Very little value for your buck, both in terms of hardware and their app. Stay away.
Having experienced this latest device, I agree with you. I invested early in the Sonos systems, and found various issues that I had hoped that they would have remedied by now. However, the observations that you have made seem to continue to persist, and this will also be my last Sonos purchase.
Could you please elaborate on a better cost effective system? I have some older Gen 1 Play 5’s which are quite dated and problematic at times but can’t afford the newer Sonos gear. I feel it’s overpriced too.
I have one and like it quite a lot. There are use cases that a BW einkt screen would be better since it's lighter and the battery will last longer. Nevertheless despite the fact that the colors are washed out (and you only have 4000 colors), it's still a very nice ereader for reading and note taking. Don't compare it with an OLED or LCD screen, these are much better in respect to colors and resolution but less easier on the eyes. It are really different use-cases.

The only point that I would make is how high you have to turn up the front light on the colour device, even when just viewing a grayscale image compared to the fact that you wouldn’t need to do that on the grayscale BOOX device. That is what made it problematic to me, as it meant that it resulted in unnecessary glare and took away from the whole convenience of having an e ink device. So, I personally felt that I might as well use an iPad if the colour is really important, as the colour on the e ink feels almost as bad as having a light from an OLED device.
It depends on your use case whether or not the Boox Note Air3 Cis suitable. I have one and love it. I only need colour to highlight books and make colour notes, for which it is excellent. The colour also helps with app icons as well.
@@DrGazza eye strain is a lot more than that. LCDs have to fight ambient light to be as bright, that's part of it, it's like a flashlight at your eyes. AFAIK at least. The front light could still use PWM.
@@ameliabuns4058 Just trying to help. With e-ink you can turn off the front light and use natural light like paper. I haven't seen any flicker on e-ink displays, I don't think they use pwm, but variable current.
When you turn on the front light to the high level that you need to, I just personally felt that you lose the relaxing readability that you get with e ink. As with my grayscale BOOX, I can view PDFs with the front light completely switched off, and it is like reading a paper document. However, on the colour e ink device, to read even a grayscale document, you need to turn up the front light quite significantly. This is why I would recommend anyone getting an e ink to get a grayscale device rather than a colour one. And if colour if really important, then due to the limitations of this device, I feel that you are better served just using an iPad even though that will cause more eye strain than an e ink device - but at least the display won’t suffer from the distracting ghosting effects or washed out colours of this colour e ink device.
Thanks for your comment, but I didn’t go in with that expectation as the comparison was just to show how washed out the colours were. The whole purpose of being a colour e ink device was for it to be easy on the eyes, which the grayscale BOOX device certainly is. However, with this colour device you have to set the front light so high that it defeats the purpose of having something which is easy on the eyes and has a long battery life. So if colour is essential, my view is that you might as well use an iPad rather than this BOOX device, with its washed out colours and need for a high front light setting.
