We purchased our first Caravan a Sprite Major 4 SB in 2018. Our Channel is for anyone new to caravanning and the more experienced. Say if you jack up a caravan correctly, can you place sleepers/large timber blocks under 4 points evenly under the chassis frame itself? Two either side, a few feet behind, and in front of the wheels. Not so it slips off. I need to remove both wheels for maintenance and rust control under the axle. So i don't have to use a jack while working. it is an Elddis Odyssey 550
Hi. Sorry for the late reply. Personally I would not use your suggested idea. I would prefer to use a proper lift ramp. There are places were you can hire ramps for the day. I don't know where you live but you can check on line. Be very careful with how you do this job I would not like you to be injured or damage your caravan. Sorry I cannot be more helpful. Really pleased it’s all came together for you, there’s nothing worse than a unpleasant site, and it looks as though you missed the down pour in the Tarragona area last week, plus your a better colour than we were even after eight weeks in Cambrils in the spring.
Hi Les. No we we where at Tarragona during the very heavy rain and wind. We had to break down in the rain. Everything was covered in sand and grit. Thankfully the weather here was dry and we managed to clean and dry the canopy etc. Have to admit I really like Northern Spain apart from the hills😂. Hope you are enjoying your hols. Phil & Juliet 🙂👍. PS We went to Cambrils a couple of times whilst in the area. 👍

Hi Noorman. Just got back the final site saved the holiday and I have to say I now love Northern Spain despite all the hills. Juliet is much better and even more so now that she found her watch. She bought on a treat trip to NYC so it holds happy memories as well. Thanks Phil. 👍🙂

Hi Keith & Alison. We where in Northern Spain about 2 hours tow from Bilbao a place called Los Lomas. Had a great time hear. Norther Spain is such a lovely but sometimes over looked part of Spain. Now back to large piles of washing and ironing. Thanks Juliet👍🙂

Hi Martin. We got back last night to all that the North West can offer rain and wind. Loved it in Northern Spain. You must give it a go. I would recommend June instead of September. Thanks P&J👍🙂
Having just purchased our Sky Air Canopy was disappointed with the following defects. Having inflated it I awoke the following morning to find it deflated, established the air release valve was faulty which I replaced. A few days later after some rain found it was leaking from the awning rail down the side of the van. On removing canopy found that the stitching was poor in a couple of areas. Canopy is to be replaced under warranty.

Hi David. All is n ow well we are at our second site which is beautiful and very friendly and helpful. My faith is almost restored. I think if I had a MH I would do just as you suggest but it's not that easy with a Caravan. Thanks Phil.🙂👍
Hello Folks, hope Juliet's foot is much better. Sounds like you have had a terrible experience of really bad customer service. As David said Red pennant is brilliant. We had a similar experience in France, we came home early, when David phoned them, they asked what site we were on, when he told them, they said oh that place. Hopefully your next site will erase your bad experiences. Enjoy the rest of your holidays xx
Hi Lindsay. I hope you are both well. We have arrived at beautiful site near Los Lanos. The Site is lovely and very well maintained. The Staff are very friendly and helpful to all who visit! What a dreadful experience you’ve both had at the hands of the site staff. Such a shame that it’s ruined that part of your adventure. Put it behind you now and enjoy the rest of your break. From my perspective your experience has almost eliminated any lingering desire I have had to take my caravan to Spain. I’m currently in the Vendee in France coming to the end of a twenty four day stay at a fantastic site with a massive fully serviced pitch. We’ve never experienced any problems at French sites in over forty years of trailer tenting in our earlier years and now caravanning for the past eight years. I always book the ferry crossing and the sites directly, not through a third party though. Is it possible that your horrible experience at this site stems from the apparent kick-back from certain Spanish quarters to what they see as over tourism?
Hi Steve. Thanks we move on tomorrow. We had the same experience as you in France. So much that we are going back to France next year. I doubt all Sites in Spain are like this one. The Club will get to hear about it all very soon. I do feel that this site is not suited for UK Caravanners. Shame really as the rest of the site is quite nice. Thanks Phil🙂👍
It’s not a doom and gloom blog, it’s a very good one to let people know about customer care, sites are run by management and in your case they’re not very good at it.

To be honest, i tend to book directly on the campsites website, i have had issues with the CAMC booking page for French sites where the pitch you think you are booking, isnt the one you get, a change of campsites management usually has a terrible effect on staff morale as well, we had issues with a site in Vendee last month, a group of 5 lads on a pitch next to us (the website stated single sex groups werent allowed), playing music till 6am so we went to reception to see what they could do, they basically said we can move pitch or move campsite!! Absolutely shocking customer service, its a shame as it is a nice site and we had been back the last three years, unfortunately, we wont be going again

Kudos to you both for persevering with it all, and a heads up for others - such a shame that the site is not up to standard, especially as you have travelled such a long way to get there. Hi Phil, this is a perfect example of why you should never book campsites when touring in Europe, if you don't like the look of a place, then move on to another, there are always plenty to choose from, in all the years I've been touring Europe I have never failed to find a site either by just turning up or phoning a few days before arrival. Sites especially in Spain are always tight and even though you booked through the CAMC you shouldn't expect the same standard of site that you get in the UK, the pitch you had and accessing it are pretty normal in Spain, I really wouldn't book through the CAMC, do your own research and find sites yourself, that way you can swop and change areas/sites while you are there, it makes for a lot more relaxing holiday, enjoy the rest of your stay
Hi Retro. We have booked through the club a few times and never had any issues. We knew the pitch would be dirt as apposed to hard standing at home. It was the poor state of the pitch roads that made it difficult. Never had any problems in Holland or France. I suppose you can get crap service in any language. Hi Andy. That is a great question. We have thrown all sorts of weather and heat at it. It has held up quite well. When I clean it I do put a coat of polish on it and it comes up really nice and lasts well. I would say that it has been the best product that I have tried so far. I know other subscribers have tried it are happy with it. One bloke used it and it helped him get a better price when he PX'd it. Hope this helps. Phil. 🙂👍
Hi mark. I cannot recommend meat or dairy. They will take it off you and could be fined. You cannot leave your fridge on. Your gas has to be disconnected before you board the ferry. We turned on the fridge using the cars 12 volt just before we left the ferry. It helped cool it a little. I would not recommend using the gas whilst towing. I hope this helps. Thanks Phil 👍🙂
Just to correct, You CAN take cereals as long as they are processed so bread, pasta breakfast cereal (as long as it has no dairy product in - you may be suprised!).

@@lostweekendscaravan I don't want to risk it and am going to follow your advice - shopping in the Hypermarche is part of the fun so that's not too bad. We've already decided not to take our awning or the heavy table stored in the bathroom as well. My wife draw the line at the carpets, lol. Gr8 video,
Hi we understand re carpets you will regret it. The site are not like uk. They very dusty in hot weather and it gets everywhere. It could ruin your carpets. However you obey her indoors. We are in Spain and we are glad we chose to leave them behind. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
I have a boot liner and it has a flap that presstuds up and protects the back of the boot lid when closed but also flaps down and covers the rear bumper from scratches when the dogs jump up.

Brilliant video! We left home and our Swift caravan lock worked. We got to the site and 5 minutes later it wouldn't lock. Couldn't get the key in the lock. Fortunately there was a caravan accessories store close by and they suggested a new barrel and to watch a video first. I hit on your video Phil. I watched it through then again, following it closely while changing the barrel. You explained it all really well. My problem was you couldn't get the key in the broken barrel to remove it from.it's housing but after much persistence the old barrel suddenly came out. Joy! And then it all went back together and we have a caravan that you can now lock and unlock! Thanks Phil for saving us lots of money. Anyone want their door lock changed?!? And I am a 76 year old female!!!

Hi Brian. Good question. You can use without the pump but I find the caravans water pressure to be a little low. More so when showering. I tend to leave the pump on. I hope this helps. Thanks Phil. 👍🙂
