Very nostalgic for me..I owned a blue 65 Satellite with the 318 cubic inch engine purchased used in 1968..traded it in for a polar white Fury III Sports coupe with the 383 engine in 1972...really regret selling both these cars!
Bought my 1st car in 1965 just before i turned 16. It was a 55 Plymouth Belvedere 4 door, 6 cylinder flat head and 3 on the tree. Paid a whopping $40 bucks for it! Drove it through my senior year in HS. Now at 74 years old i have a 53 Plymouth Cranbrook coupe, and over the last 20 years has evolved into a drag and drive car. I'm documenting the build on my 53 Plymouth channel. Stop by and comment. Enjoy the 56, I always loved the lines compared to the 55.
Takes me back to my youth. Bought a 55 Plymouth Belvedere in 1965 six months before i got my drivers license. Six cylinder flat head and 3 on the tree. Paid a whopping $40 bucks for it! Now at 74 years old i've had a 53 Plymouth Cranbrook coupe for over 20 years. It's evolved into a drag and drive car. I'm posting videos' on the 53 Plymouth channel if anyone wants a look. Enjoy the Savoy rebuild process!
*ChuckhouseofMopar!* One of my favorite quotes from the Dirty Harry movies is "..a man's GOT to know his limitations.." and when it comes to body/paint - I got a LOT of those. 🙂 Not much going on here with Fred the GTX lately though - we've been dealing with Helene and the truly biblical proportion rains and winds that are proving catastrophic in this region. I half expect an old dude with a big boat full of animals to float by here soon, ya dig? Y'all be safe over there, see you next one. - Ed on the Ridge
Curious why you didn't seem to set foot into the Manufacturer's Midway? Besides having Daisy Duke in our booth and a bunch of awesome cars on display, there were lots of companies who came out to show their support. What would bring you that way next year?
Well crap, I usually get through there and I knew that Catherine was there this year as well. I'll be sure to make it through there next year for sure.
I don't think your mpg is too far off the mark. My swapped 360 magnum e body, with a 625 holley demon carb, A518 overdrive with lock up torque converter and 3.73s gets 15.7 mpg on the highway. That is at a 70 mph cruise. The overdrive gives a 2.57 overall top gear ratio, so I am actually a little jealous of our mpg.
Well thanks Rocky, there is definitely more left to be found. A set of headers will go a long way. John, with the '66 Charger, has a 518 in his car and he actually burned more fuel on the leg that I got 17.2 mpg. Not sure of his gear.
7:08 I am changing the entire box because the resistor over heated and set fire to the plastic box and the two pounds of pine needles that have collected over the years in the cowl. Heater core & resistor are under $50 on eBay, the heater box is $0 (free) from a salvage yard I do business with. The 13,974 hours of my labor, priceless.
Great video Chuck. I was looking forward to a long montage of the car show. But I assume the "smudge cam" dampened that footage. Talking about damp (Ha....see what I did there...) you're a braver man than me driving you car in the rain. I just can't do it. If you're considering suggestions for future videos. As Fall approaches and those of us a little further North prepare our cars for winter. It would be interesting to see how you prep and store vehicles for the winter. Everyone has their own ritual. I'm curious what yours is. Thanks again for your hard work creating these videos. It is appreciated and I look forward to the next video. (Haven't missed one yet!). John
This was one of my shorter videos from either Nationals or Moparty. When I did my first Moparty video, I had around 200 clips to sort through and spent 8-10 hours editing. That was no fun and this video had about half that many clips. One of the best things with Louise is that the body is a little rough so driving in bad weather is not as big of a deal. I'll usually wash the car before winter and put Stabil in the tank. Thanks for the Kudos John.
*Chuck!* Good to see you having a good time - and of course, seeing the star of the show, *Louise!* You mention the AVS2 800cfm - that's the carb I hope to get on Fred the GTX, hopefully this fall sometime since the old crappy Carter has had it. Carba are always something we'd love to try before we buy, eh? I think Fred's slightly warm 440 might like the Eddy (I'm over the whole Holley thing), so what was it you didn't like about the AVS2 specifically? - Ed on the Ridge
Ed, the AVS2 is a good carb for sure. I use an AFR gauge and you'd be surprised at how much fine tuning that you can do with it. It gets to the point that you finally have to pull it out because you will always be messing with the idle jets at the very least. Since I'm planning on headers down the road, I knew that I can really fine tune the mixture and hopefully get MUCH better and mileage and some HP. After I did a tune on the Cuda with the AFR gauge, I saw what can be done when you have the extra air bleeds that the Eddy doesn't have. The setup on the Satellite is a "test mule" for the setup that I'm going to use on the Coronet.
Good to see you and the usual suspects back again this year Chuck! We lucked out on the weather for the most part. I drove down Friday morning, rained about 1/2 way, always helps a black car look it's best.😂 Hopefully the outfit that put on Holley MoParty will continue and make it better. There were some changes that I think a lot of people didn't care for, the registration price went up was a big one. Then the posters, and some of the shirts in the MoParty merch tent. Overall another great event. See you guys next year!
Hey Tim, good to see you guys again. The price going up wasn't good, Drew registered late and had to pay $125 per car. I'm surprised, and happy, that they already have it booked for next year. See you then, maybe with the Coronet.
Thanks for sharing! Saggy springs, I happen to know where there are a set of original Gabriel Air Shocks for a B body from back in the early 70's :-), still in the box!
I don't have the time or the ambition 😂 ... How's that ram running after your plenum repair? I have a 99 1500 5.2 I need to operate on, same procedure.
Just a minor point: that intake is not an "air gap". The big blocks did not have air gaps, only small blocks. The space in the middle between the intake and the valley pan is an "air gap" by default!
Engaging video as always Chuck. Thank you. Always happy when I see one your videos post. Quick question - I didn't catch at the beginning exactly the reason why you grind off the raised lettering? Thanks. John
*Chuck! (Do you even read the comments?)* Rick Ehrenberg is a walking encyclopedia of all things Mopar, has been since the early 60's. I call him "Professor Ehrenberg" - not quite sure if he likes that or not. 🙂 Was sad to see Mopar Action magazine die, though... Eddy vs. Holley, the age-old debate. I've had plenty of both over the years and my preference is the Edelbrock (yes, they ARE as "tunable" as the Holleys, perhaps even more so as they're easier/less messy to work on). I have an AVS2 800cfm on my XMas list for Fred the GTX, in fact. If you're going to run a Holley though, save the hassle and buy the fuel line pre-made - it's just easier that way, not to mention time-saving and a lot less leaky. Have a blast at the MoParty, see you next time. - Ed on the Ridge
Thanks, Ed. The premade fuel line looks to modified for this car in my opinion. It's just fine on a Hotrod like the Cuda. I'm going to sell this AVS 2 manual choke if you're interested. p.s. I read all of the comments, not sure what you're talking about with that.
@@Chuck_House_of_Mopar Yeah man, if it's pretty much like it comes out the box new, we can certainly horse trade on the AVS2. Just give me a holler, thanks - Ed
Go back to 1976 i bought a 65 satellite black on black buckets console 4 speed headers 780 holly. Well tossed a rod. Found a 383 and had it swapped. It no go. So me my dad and his mechanic rplaced the heads with 440 heads reed cam new valve train ran to good. Looked like this
@Chuck_House_of_Mopar I'll be down early Friday, Tracy will be later. We'll be parked with the Southeast Challenger Club, and helping with parking this year.
What’s the size of the driveshaft chuck ? I’m doing the swap also but was wondering if my original driveshaft would fit or I need get another longer and get it cut
@@edwardnajera8803 No, I sure don't. You just slide the yoke into the transmission tail shaft and then pull it out about an inch. Then measure from the center of the front U joint to the flat of the rear yoke. The flat of the rear yoke is the center of the rear U joint.
Great video Chuck. Appreciate all the work that went into making this video. Maybe I missed it, but what motor is going back in the car if you are not keeping the Hemi K-frame? John
You're a good *steward* of multiple cars, Chuck. The hobby certainly can use more of those... especially for the many "pedigree" original cars out there. Seems like all anyone wants to do with them anymore is engine swaps and modifications. Keep up the good work! - Ed on the Ridge
