Hi! I'm The Y2K Collector and this channel follows my collecting journey since the start of the pandemic. Some of my favorite moments in pop culture occurred during the 90's and early 00's. Video games along with movies, music and fashion guide my memories of that era. Video games have been one of the best ways for me to revisit some of those moments. Here I'll be discussing my thoughts on things related to retro video games and their impact on my life.
Dreamcast forever baby! I loved the PS2 definitely, but the Dreamcast may have had a smaller library in comparison but the games on that system were excellent and original and hella fun! It holds a very special place in my heart and it is one of my favorite consoles of all time.
True gamers that get rid of their old consoles may come to regret it. being old doesn't always mean inferior. that is part of why PC gaming is amazing. we don't think about backwards compatibility. a modern computer can play a game from the 1990s. though some troubleshooting may be necessary due to missing software ware and other differences. but playable is better than no option at all.
PS2. Yes, the Dreamcast has a great library, but unfortunately they went out of business in the hardware market very early in that generation. It was literally in the market for a little over a year until it retired. It technically didn't even get a chance to also compete with the GameCube and OG Xbox, since those consoles came out after Dreamcast dropped out of the console race. If it had stuck around a little more longer, it would probably have the potential to be head-to-head with PS2. PS2 just had a way larger variety of excellent titles that stuck around for years. I would've had like to have seen the Dreamcast succeed more and stick around a little longer, because I think the Dreamcast is still a super fantastic system, with Jet Grind Radio being my favorite game on that.
Keep your games, all of them. Your billionaire ceo's keep telling you that you dont own it so stick with what you got. Let them ricch azzholes go broke for a change
PS2 all day, even though I didn’t play my PS2 much as I had an Xbox as well it has soooo many good exclusives. Dreamcast is an overpriced system due to low supply in copies of games. How often do you even see Dreamcast games in the wild pretty much never.
PS2. Edit: Why, first it's backwards compatible with PS1, Dreamcast is not Backwards compatible with Saturn or Sega CD. Final Fantasy Games (was a big fan of that series) Dragon Quest 8 The 2 Castlevania games. Although Dreamcast has Soul Calibur, PS2 has part 2 and 3 (also Soul Edge PS1) The million of Capcom collection out there that covers all SF alpha games, and other Street Fighter games, Mega Man and Mega Man X games, also lots of the arcade Classic. Midway Collection Games (where I can play MK2 and MK3), also MK Trilogy (ps1), even MK1, as well as the 3 native MK games. Omnimusha (love that series) Lots of SNK collection games (especially Samurai Showdown Anthology, that has part VI, only available for the PS2) Suikoden 3, 4 and my favorite 5. Gradius 3 and 4 collection, as well as part 5. I can go on and on about titles. I like the Dreamcast, and it's vibrant graphics, but I'm a gamer first, which is why I would pick PS2.
Dreamcast, there's too many arcade/quick pick up and play titles that don't feel like a time sink as an adult. 17 year old me in 2001 picked the ps2 where I had all the time in the world to finish those top story based games.
Give me a Dreamcast and VGA box, and I'm good to go. The PS2 no doubt has a larger library, but as a Sega fan, the Dreamcast is the way. I still have both consoles and have significantly more games for my DC.
Mindset that ps5 is worthless cause my ps4 plays everything so whats the point is stupid. Buy your ps5 and live comfortably or buy ps4 blow engine all up til jesus returns and suffer slowness all around the board, or just commit few more and cop p5. "Guess my switch is pathetically worthless, it plays all same games as wii u!" See how flawed that thinking is?
The denial that switch is this ultimate success story of a console is astounding. NOBODY kids adults no one is thinkin bout switch. All this massive wave of inspiration is cause they wasted a generation needing to catch up. So it looks like their lineup does something and it doesn't. Look past that and its no different than any other platform just worse and amplified
MGS games, JRPGs, Rock* Games, Silent Hill 2 & 3, DMC 1 & 3, GOW 1 & 2, Tony Hawk, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, God Hand, Rise to Honor, Shinobi, Zone of Enders, and Getaway; So much more. And Backwards compatible!
What's funny about the PS2 generation is that it's most noted for having great exclusives But the absolute best exclusives were 3rd party and Exclusive by default. The PS 2 is my favorite system of all time with the best library of all time. I just can't believe there's so much emphasis now on 1st party exclusives when exclusives, period, Used to rule the day.
I like the games the dreamcast has snd what it did, and phantasy star online was so wild, but ps2 just needs a new clock battery every 10 years and some discs might need resurfaced and another dns might need put in depending on the online servers but a ps2 keeps going, even with the comprntition of the overvalued overhyped switch, ps2 still here, all cause some million people wanted to watch a few dvds
Good stuff, bro! I own 99% of the games you mentioned, the PS4 is absolutely the best console from that generation. I’m still playing PS4 games from my massive backlog on PS5 and loving every moment.
I had a xbox 360, then a Switch. I'm not an avid gamer but I had money saved up to buy a PS5, but the release date came and went, and they were never in stock. I wasn't going to sit up all night clicking refresh, and I wasn't going to pay extra to scalpers. I figured I'd get one when I could go into the store and buy one. The years went by, and wouldn't you know it, the PS5 exclusives failed to impress. Last week I bought a PS4 pro and 17 of the best games on ebay all for less than half of what they are selling just a PS5 slim for at Costco. As soon as I upgrade the hard drive to SSD, the main differentiating factor will evaporate.
I love the Dreamcast (I was a Sega kid) that being said it's PS2 10 times out of 10. You have a much bigger and better selection of games to choose from.
Current gen will be the last console gen for me....Whatever the next Nintendo console will be...I might pick up though if Nintendo doesn't pull a Wii U with it. I can see a video game crash happening within the next few years.
I skipped school on 9.9.99 to buy the Dreamcast, it's a fine system but come on, it's the PS2. The Dreamcast games were brighter in terms of color I'll grant you that, PS2 could push more polygons. In 2024 Dreamcast games are too expensive, it's easy to burn the iso files onto CD though. In 2024 PS2 games are plentiful in every genre and affordable. PS2!
I wouldn’t say Dreamcast is goated because they went out of business after all, they did really well when they first released and had more games then the ps2, the ps2 didn’t have games for a long time remember? It sold well mostly because it had a dvd player
Yes, I think the PS4 is the new PS2. It's in between 3 where 4 has old games that 3 had but it also has new games that 5 has. Like the other video says, The PS4 isn't going anywhere anytime soon...
This makes me want to break out the PS3 and play some old games again. I enjoyed that time of free online play and playing with random people that used mics. I think cheesing and spamming are the same but somewhat different as well. Cheesing is finding a very easy and possibly cheap way or exploit to beat someone or a boss. Spamming is finding a particular move or strategy and doing it over and over because the opponent can't counter it. I think I heard the term spamming more in a competitive sense but cheesing was more used in co-op raid situations, like we've found a way to cheese the boss. I'm also a fan of the Dynasty Warriors games going back to the PS2 and starting with 2-5, then 1 wasn't really even Dynasty Warriors the way others turned out to be and that was on the PS1.
The original Xbox wasn't a "kiddy console". The Xbox also had a DVD player and a lot of people definitely wanted the Original Xbox (at least in the US). But, the PS2 was indeed the most popular console thanks to the success of the PS1 and most importantly, It's vast library of games/exclusives. Nothing beats the impact the PS2 had. Love that thing
Even though a lot of ps5 games are on the ps4 the ps5 runs them a lot smoother and at times almost feels like a completely different game. The load times are way faster on ps5 also. The ps5 doesn't sound like a rocket ship taking off either when you load a graphic heavy game up. The ps5 controller has haptic feedback and a built in mic. The only reason the ps4 is still relevant is because when the ps5 first released scalpers were buying all of them and reselling them at a higher price. Also covid slowed down the production of everything on the planet at the time giving the ps4 a longer life span than usual. There is nothing special about the ps4. It is outdated hardware that came out over ten years ago
PS4 Pro with an SSD installed is next level. Went from loading Cyberpunk save in over minute to less than 10 seconds and smooth driving with no texture popping load in. The 30 fps cap still hurts it, but I have such a backlog of great games (that will all load super fast now) and they're still readily available for cheaper and cheaper as time passes. Feels like gaming, and the technology has just plateau'd in this new generation there's no draw to PS5 until prices drop.

@@QuestAccepter lol so what? Cool it's cheap now. It'll be even cheaper later and maybe by then some worthwhile games comes out for it, that aren't also on PS4.
Alice madness returns also comes with a free download for the original American McGee's Alice which was only on PC. It's the only way to get a console port of the older game
PS5 is overpriced , not worth it , the push for subscription services and only digital plus paying for online is getting old , so people are going back to older consoles , games are tio expensive for new systems , old systems they are largely affordable . People see what the game companies are trying to do , they arnt dumb and people don't like it so back to the retro systems before all the lights and mirrors were thrown in .
