Just for accuracy, Becker did not know he was dying as he wrote this book. It was finished before he became sick. This evidenced from Becker’s own words in his last interview with psychologist Sam Keen.

It doesnt work because of a clash between systems(generally capitalism v socialism or communism), and because it relies on a heirarchy, which always corrupts.
Whoever says the youth are dumbdown, I got news for ya. My 16 year old granddaughter just recommended the book to me. I read it so long ago, had forgotten about it.
Okay... I think you kinda missed a point man .. yes, to come to the actualization that we are going to return to dust and we're all worm food... But the greater meaning and freedom is realizing what makes us "humans" different is our SPIRIT! that's the connection to the divine. Because we definitely are more than worm food in the ultimate end. I've died before and there's definitely a part that continues on... Death really is not as bad as modern American society chop it all up to be... Something to be feared. AND experiencing a few loved ones at the end of their journey has shown me that it's really just another stage in the process of life. It's a beautiful thing. ❤
Hey. Kudos by the way. Great run down and I'm super excited to be picking this book up. Call me morbid but death has always been that one thing that's made me more curious, adventurous and honestly enjoy living that much more. I do love life... But really death will be the ultimate experience... Again?... Idk but when its my time I'll be welcoming it. .. lmao... Morbid... 😂
I always find these opinion pieces about the essence of being, almost as arbitrary and narcissistic. There is so much literature explaining and guessing about what it really means to be alive all the while forgetting to ask the main question of philosophy. Why are we here? It’s as if John grey is saying “yeah computers and technology, they are not really important just a product of… well in my opinion I don’t know if John grey would be able to chalk that up to human beings charting out a destiny but I digress. Cool take. Useless application? I’m always game for some perplexing rationales tho!
Its very simple why everyone should use shampoo. We should treat our scalp like the skin on our face. Gentle, soothing and cleansing. I think it is very important to cleanse the scalp. This argument that "oh no one used to shampoo 100 years ago" tbh is very stupid. And back then everyone had skin conditions, infections and a lot of dandruff (forms essentially by not cleaning scalp, again different than a dry flaky scalp..). This argument that we dont need shampoo, sure we do not. But do you want a clean healthy scalp in the future? I pick that. To sum this all up, Skin and hair care has changed and improved so much. People are looking so much younger these days, mainly because of diet and healthcare id say but also a big innovation in skin care. As most dermatologist recommend to cleanse face 2 times per day and moisturize, they also recommend scalp care and cleansing and all based on hair and scalp type to be optimally clean, without irritation with a variety of great products to try from.
I believe it would be detrimental to the survival of our species, were most to adopt Gray's outlook. Perhaps the reality of our predicament hurts too much.
Not tryna get weird or nothing but i just wanted to express how sad it is that interesting influencers like you are so underrated while the "pop" influencers are in most cases a bunch of idiots.
I wish I could read it again for the first time too. Especially the first book, and not know what it's about at all. Just go in totally cold. Making my way halfway thru the book, thinking it's a science heavy murder mystery/conspiracy story, then getting slammed with an alien invasion story almost out of nowhere. That would be so cool.
A highly respected member of our church (in Australia) ran a banana business called Chiquita. Only much later did I find out the sordid history of that company. Not sure if he knew about it, and cant ask as he has passed on.
Nice. A favorite book I read: Chapter One. "Get to work. Do something productive with positive economic outcomes." Chapter Two. "Repeat, get to work. See chapter one for what to do.' Chapter Three: "Fergawdsakes get to work." That was a $105 book.
I didn't know about the books before I watched the Netflix show which was interesting but also fell short and felt really strange. Are the books better than the Netflix show ?
So which one is history..?? Albeit “His-story” where as these books a just stories of an individuals biography, yes they are true to the biographer but so are many exaggerated books supposedly true to fact in one’s own pen turned into cinematic blockbusters.. History which defines its factual past in places and times with more than an individual or a small collective but more of account of many in its participation or event…. One man’s journey of adventure isn’t history it’s just an interesting story to read about mishaps of life…
