Hi Brian, send me someway of sending you a beer tip for saving me an entire day by using a hammer to top the pump. It worked immediately. I need to buy you a beer brother!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
I just repacked mine and its leaking from the top I bought the titan packing kit And bought a piston off amazon. I did notice that the amazon piston is hollow on the bottom. The bolt that holds the little ball etc is tighten all the way in the piston so its not flush with the bottom. Can that be the problem? I did replace the plastic ring that goes on the piston guide but it wasnt sitting tight.
Best video ever. I have a 4000 psi washer. I'm not getting any pressure. It's been parked up for a while, and i know for sure it's not the winter, cause i live in the caribbean 🇹🇹 Trinidad and Tobago... Again thank you for your information and patience sir. Any other feedback would be most appreciated...
@@GaryRobertson-bv1hg could be bad packings, but before I would jump to that it could be trash in the pump or bad prime valve. I have a video labeled loss of pressure. Check that one before going to a repack
@@KB-ie7jr the pump should not be hot to the touch, very warm ok. If you don't have a thermal valve, put one on. If you do, replace them every couple years. Corrosion will prevent them from working properly
@@Brian_the_repair_guy Wow, thanks for the heads-up on the thermal valve! I had no idea they corrode. As far as I know, mine still works, though I rarely let it get to the point where it needs to, so who knows. Either way, looks like it's gettin replaced now.
Brian great video , I have the same torpedo heater it worked for me for the first 5 years and the last 6 years is been collecting dust i couldn’t get it to start but I am going to try what you just did on this video thank you
What weird is the pressure washer with a cat pump has the same 5years warranty as a one you just showed a better oil lubricated one. Makes nonsense. I think both can last if you take care of it from the start agree???
@@summerforever6736 yes, CAT is a great pump. Even the cheapest Chinese pump will typically last with care. On average CAT is the most expensive to purchase, maintain and parts. With that in mind, why spend so much more money on CAT when and AR or General gives you the same performance and longevity with care? That is how I direct my customers.
Another great video I have a question. I used my pressure washer last week and site glass was ok and yesterday my AR pump glass look a bit milky then ran out of gas, then ten minutes later lost half the pressure and the site glass was all milky. that mins that I need a new pump it’s an old Craftsman 3400 PSI 4 GPM. 11HP. the pump is a AR XM 4G32 and I can’t seem to find any parts for it or may be i am not looking at the right places any advice would be greatly appreciated

@@alfaroinc1 I like watercannon.com for a big range of parts. I personally don't like to just rebuild the head whwn water has been in the crank. I prefer a replacement
@@alfaroinc1 watercannon.com is a pretty good source. Just make sure the shaft size is correct. I recommend a fully plumbed pump with a REMOVABLE unloader. AR is a good choice, inexpensive and bigger options on parts. General is more expensive but a really good pump
Very good video, used this to work on my Ryobi with Honda 190cc engine. I'm still getting a hard pull when I put spark plug back in so I will let it sit overnight and try again.
@@Brian_the_repair_guy I also seen another video about exhaust release valve may be an issue, I do think I was overfilled of oil I drained and changed oil, and last run it wanted to stall while operating.
@@charlesjacksoniii8787 yes, this would be a good simple machine with little prep to spray products. Make sure you follow the chart on page 15 for the tip size minimums
Is leaking out of the top a sign of a worn piston? I just changed the packing on a 640 and it still leaks out of the top Edit: took everything back out and the piston is really loose in the very top new packing and is definitely bad
@@LeadfootPTM I personally never use a lubricant. They don't use them in factory build and I have never needed a lubricant. I am not saying it is bad, I just don't need it
@@Brian_the_repair_guy I’ve been selling pressure washers for years. The seals are lubricated when the pumps are assembled. It’s possible the lubricants wash out when the seals fail.
@@LeadfootPTM I have been repairing and assembling pumps for more than 30 years. I have never pulled a new unused CAT, General, AR, AAA or Comet pump a part that had lubricated seals.
@@LeadfootPTM ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XdeeXqB_E04.htmlsi=JvwccfIc9SIOJjeD this is a video from AR that shows a rebuild. No mention of lubrication
It does not have a vent. I’m going to take the part apart that has the little spring in it to see if the ball or spring is stuck or damaged. Something is not closing that prevents water back flowing into the soap tank.
@@Brian_the_repair_guy Hi Brian, for some reason the lips on the blue seals were cut off when hammering the piston into the sleeve. Even with lubrication and the slight lead that's machined into the sleeve.
@@wayne3340 that can happen, the blue worm appears from time to time. To prevent this, you can leave the piston valve loose, after you push the piston through, push it enough to allow the wrench to tighten the piston vlave at the other end
@@Brian_the_repair_guyThanks Brian. It was my mistake, and I wonder if some others have done the same thing. I didn't recognize the old retaining ring up against the hex of the outlet valve. When I disassembled it to install my 2nd seal kit, it came off. That's why I couldn't feel it tighten up and I compressed the seal pack. Thanks again.
Excellent presentation. Thank you! Just bought a 640 that I bought at auction with low hours but condition was unknown. Was using with poly and lacquer and there was paint loaded on the intake tube and a little on the house but the fluid body had no wear no rust. LCD and controls worked and no paint blow through behind the front cover. Video will help me when I get it hooked up to a hose and gun. Paid only 65 dollars which is unbelievable. I asked my local dealer how to clean paint from the housing, cart etc without damaging the plastic - they said nothing. Found out you can use a pressure steamer. I'll upload a picture - no damage, takes a little while but the machine now looks brand new - not kidding. Paint blasted right off chrome frame, cord, housing etc. My machine looked similar to the one in the video - maybe cleaner.
I’ve searched many videos on this and am very grateful to you for yours, it’s straightforward the way I like a do it yourself video to be. Thank you Bud!!!
Hey brian , if I lost pressure but not much + leaking water from pump what would be the best route to go. & if any is there a rebuilt kit for the “ valves “
What an excellent video, thank you very much Should you take any of these parts apart, just to clean it out once or twice a year? I just cleaned out some of the fittings that went to the filter manifold, and they had a lot of layers of elastomeric paint on them. Maybe half of their diameter clogged. And I know the guns get a ton of particulate stuck in them (both in the handle filter, and in the nozzle area) I'm wondering if the pump area also collects paint, and it's worth trying to clean it And I think another video said maybe it's a good idea to grease some areas of the piston But maybe it's likely that you'll damage the seals, and it's better to leave it alone until it fails
@@honeyforce996 I do not recommend taking the pump apart for cleaning. Once apart, new packings should be installed. No matter the wear on them. Would be like taking a piston out of an engine and putting the piston back in with the rings. No recommended. To do a thorough internal cleaning, pump the machine full of lacquer thinner and allow the system to stay full for a couple days then pump it out. Lacquer thinner is highly flammable. Do this outside with no flames
Hi Brian, have you got a video on fixing dead sprayers?...my titan 640 died last week, it was linked up to my generator, i know we're not supposed to use gennis but had no choice, no power on site, but I've used this genni loads of times before and works fine, just this time my titan died and not came back on, I since tried it on a house plug and still not came back on, any ideas what needs fixing?
@@fletcher-nf4pn the machines prefer inverter style generators. The power is cleaner. Pull the cover off the machine. There should be a black cover on the back of the motor if you have an impact series. 2 screws hold it on. Take it off. Plug the machine in and turn it on see if there are lights. No lights bad board. Flashing lights other problems. Let me know what you have.
@Brian_the_repair_guy yea that's what I've got, an inverter generator and it's the 640 impact...I've not got around to looking yet but is it fixable if lights are still flashing or just best to send it off to my repair man
My Graco GX 19 has the exact same symptoms but I just replaced the pump today and still same symptoms, and since the pump comes with packings, any idea what else it could be? It builds & holds pressure to about 400-500 psi, but if I turn the pressure knob any higher, the pump kicks back on and cycles endlessly, (unless I release pressure or turn the pressure knob back down). Pressure control unit? I watched your vid where you replaced one but you didn't list the symptoms with that one, if I recall. Your customer "helped" by taking some of it apart before dropping it off to you.
As a Park Ranger, we use these on the regular. I've had some pressure and seal issues lately with some of our rigs. Your detailed video has helped me diagnose pressure and seals, even though you talked little about pressure issues, you pinpointed the area I need to focus on with this video. I thank you for your time, and am now subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for your best tip.will you help me how to fix vibration of the machine at work. I check the 1. water flow in to the machine 2.I change all 6 water valves including the O ring. 3.I change the loader unloader from other machine of the same type the problem is not solved. 4.if I change all the water part and replace it by the same machine,it works properly. I can't fix the problem of its water part.please will you help me? Thank you
@@jasbpainting more than likely if the packing are new and installed correctly, then you have something in the pump that is clocking the balls. Check out my videos on how to fix that
