What absolute idiots, them lanes aren’t closed, they’re live open running lanes, they have absolutely no right to prevent traffic flow in a running lane.
Rule 272 of the Highway Code, You MUST NOT pick up or set down anyone, or walk on a motorway, except in an emergency, I know why you all got frustrated and angry with them 2 car drivers but it’s illegal to walk on a motorway unless it’s an emergency, however, them 2 car drivers had no right to block traffic, they were lucky to not get seriously injured, you never know who you’re messing with, blocking traffic is asking for trouble, it’s also illegal, the 'wilful obstruction of the highway' is a criminal offence, The Highways Act 1980 defines this as 'a person without lawful authority or excuse in any way wilfully obstruct[ing] the free passage along a highway', you all broke the law in this situation.
You were all being selfish and immature. Them for blocking you. You for thinking you should be able to skip the traffic in the other lanes when everyone has clearly moved over to try and ease the traffic flow. If everyone behaved like you were trying to do and carried on to the last possible moment in the fast line, it would create even more gridlock. Clearly you don't care and think you should be able to exploit the gaps resulting from others trying to make things better for everyone.
Watch it again with an open mind rather than jumping to conclusions. The lane that the camera car was in had been reopened (as seen be seen in the video by the electronic overhead signage), likely as whatever obstruction was there had now been removed. The reason why people on the left haven't got the message is because they are stuck in traffic and have not had the opportunity to see the next electronic overhead signage saying the lane is open.
What do you think happens to a lane that has been closed because of an obstruction, once the obstruction has cleared? Think about it and watch the video again with an "open" mind. There is no need to "cut in front" of anyone as the camera car has a completely open lane for them (and everyone else that knows) to use.
This is not queue jumping though is it? All the lanes were open as you could see the 40 mph flashing in the gantries, and secondly, the highway code encourages merge in turn and using the available road space in slow moving traffic situations. If you genuinely think like this, you should have you licence taken away from you immediately and learn the rules of the road. You patronising thick simpleton.
Yeah, i'm sure that queue of standing traffic will have to brake really sharply to let the cammer in. Ignoring the fact that the cammers lane wasn't even closed so they wouldnt need to merge. Read the HWC.
Difficult to know without context. Everyone in front of those two cars is in lanes one and two. Why isn't anyone from lane one and two ahead of these two moving in to the empty outside lanes? Is there a lane closure ahead?
My guess is that lane 3 was closed however had since opened. But since traffic was standing a lot of the traffic in lanes 1 & 2 had already passed the gantry and wouldnt have seen the change. Either way you slice it though, the other cars actions are innexcusable. If the lane was closed, they then blocked a closed lane which can prevent emergency services accessing an incident. If it wasnt closed then they blocked a live lane for no reason and caused traffic for no reason.
Traffic modeling / fluid dynamics ..... traffiic jams on motorways are made worse because drivers are slow to accellerate after the obstruction is passed ... Bet this guy is a dawdler !!!
I cannot condone you opening his car door, that was illegal, some sort of break and enter technically, but he was clearly committing a kidnapping of sorts. A forced confinement. Without your portion opening the door, I would have sent this to the video to the police to report him if I were you.
I really like that you ask the question rather than jumping to conclusions :). There is electronic signs above the lanes that can change to indicate whether a lane is closed. These will have previously said that the lane was closed, but in the video they clearly show the lane has reopened (see the 40 shown above the lane. This would be a red X if the lane was closed). The only problem is they are stuck in traffic too far away from the next electronic sign to see that the lane has been reopened.
These digital road signs are pure cancer, half the time they display something that makes no sense and just causes dangerous congestion. ‘Left lane closed’, then for miles there is actually nothing blocking any lanes.
Highway code says only a Highway Agency ora Police officer can direct the traffic. This guy is directing traffic. You should have reported him to the police. The HA can see all of this on their cameras anyway.
I know this was a long time ago but it still happens now just call the police telling them that a driver is impeding the flow of traffic and he is a possible danger to the public.
I'm one of those drivers. I don't like being intimidated by fools in trucks, or 4WD. I'm petty and I will drive exactly 5 under the limit, block their passing and smile like a nice old lady the whole time.
Looks like it is disability modified. Maybe his disability is self entitlement. would be so tempting to just let the air out of his tyres then they will need to move to the hard shoulder to deal with the breakdown and, cos you used the valves, there's no damage, they just have to use their spare till they can find a pump
What a complete clown. It makes your blood boil. And just for your information, the 40mph is an advisory speed. Its only a max speed if its in a red circle
Unfortunately stupid people never even realise they are stupid, whch is why you can never argue with them because theyr'e always right. Well at least the two number plates are out there for all to see..
