Other than the caution inconsistency and awful NASCAR Refball that we saw take place today, it was a good race to me and I enjoyed it with the pit strategy, fuel mileage and green flag stops + some big wrecks although while I am frustrated with the finish of the race, I understand in some capacity as NASCAR didn’t want a repeat of Nashville. I’m just glad Larson got his redemption from May and hope he gets his 2nd redemption next May as well by trying the double again without the stupid ass rain getting in the damn way. Good stuff Ian! I’m not even a Kyle Larson fan. He was one of my picks to win the race. But the main reason I was cheering (well; first reason) was because I was actually glad they ended the race after 2 attempts instead of like 3 or 4 or 5 attempts. I didn’t care who won, I wanted the race to not have a bunch of stupid manufactured chaos and endless GWC attempts. Imagine being so mad that you’re assuming something that isn’t even true and don’t know the context. Who is the real a-hole now? Stay mad.

If you try an tell me you want consistent but then say you want them to call it in favor of a guy who should have had a penalty from the restart prior. So yeah my statement is still valid about what I saw in the video. Don’t argue one thing in comments and then say something completely different in the video. That’s why I said what I said. @TrevorPhipps-vw6kr you know, NASCAR wouldn’t have to deal with anything like today if they were actually smart enough to get rid of the garbage gimmicks and other things that have been hurting NASCAR since the last administration. But since NASCAR is still stupid to keep their gimmicks, they’re going to continue to have problems like yesterday. But as for this one, if you want my answer, I honestly didn’t care about Preece running out of fuel and spinning, I just wanted the race to end asap already. The race had 2 attempts, unfortunately. This race shouldn’t have been extended at all. But 2 was enough. I ONLY applaud to NASCAR to let them get to the white only because there wouldn’t be more attempts. That is the only praise I will give them from that. I just wanted the race to end asap and not have 5 or more attempts and waste time and see more cars damaged. But NASCAR did this to themselves if anything since they wanna keep being like WWE and Ball Sports on wheels, pleasing the wrong crowd and ignoring pure auto racing fans like myself. It’s their fault for continuing manufactured entertainment and encouraging drivers to kill each other and drive like idiots due to their gimmicks.

@TrevorPhipps-vw6kr well yeah it’s the driver’s fault for being stupid. But you know NASCAR loves their chaos and crashes to please the networks with their gimmicks. But in the end, I just care the race didn’t last as long as it should’ve. That’s all.
As much as I'm happy Kyle Larson got the Month of May Redemption at The Brickyard, The Finish of this race couldn't have been anymore disappointing and You can all Thank The Other Kyle (KFB) for it

Before the rage came in, it sounded like you were more excited watching IndyCar compared to when you watch NASCAR and rightfully so. So with that being said, will you be reacting to the NASCAR races at Indy this weekend? I’ll be watching the Brickyard 400 too as I was one of those many fans who wanted it back so even if it’s 80 degrees outside, I will be holding up my end of the bargain by staying inside to watch it so tomorrow there’ll be a Preview Video going up combined with another San Antonio Spurs news update video regarding one of my current favorite players from last year’s team staying put for next season since one of em already left to go back to his original team that being the Charlotte Hornets. My first Indy car race..5 years old. Guess I did pretty good as dad took me to Indianapolis 3 years later. I dont remember much about the race except when IIRC Parnelli got the lead..people figured the big car will back slide. When Foyt took the lead back coming off 4, the place went crazy.
Nice clip Ian. I really love this era of the AAA then USAC Champ Dirt Car races on the old Fair Grounds Mile Dirt! The 1950's thru the end of the 1960's is my central favorite time and Series "The USAC Championship Trail." Please keep posting any of these that you discover...Thanks, Tim
Roger McCluskey went into retirement in 1979, whereupon in his final career race start that year, he won here at Milwaukee in the 200 mile race. Seldom does a driver have a race win as a sendoff into retirement. He is also credited with assisting AJ Foyt's climb to the top of the Champ Car series in 1967. In the final race of the '67 season, the Rex Mays 300 at Riverside, Foyt was sidelined with a vehicle mishap. The unscathed Foyt ran back to the pits, where McCluskey allowed Foyt to replace him as the driver . . . as back then USAC rules allowed driver substitutions in a race, with the drivers splitting the points. Foyt finishing 5th in the Riverside race, with McCluskey's car, was enough for Foyt to be crowned the USAC champion for 1967. That 1967 USAC Champ Car season was considered one of the most closely contested seasons in memory . . .that is, until 1968. After the '68 Champ Car season, USAC changed the rules with prohibiting driver substitutions.

Ray Nichels Engineering did the prep work on Foyt's Dodge. To this day I still can't wrap my brain around seeing AJ Foyt driving a Dodge; as he was thoroughly a Ford guy in the 1960s. I've seen a comment on another RU-vid video saying that Foyt drove for Dodge in 1964 as his way to snub Ford; as supposedly, Ford did not deliver the Indy DOHC engine to Foyt for the 1964 Indy 500. While I realize Foyt drove the Watson Roadster for the 1964 Indy 500, he did do prior testing with a rear-engine Halibrand/Offy racer, but couldn't get it sorted to run competitively at Indy.

0:55 I agree, one of the things I hate current RU-vid(I don't think it was like that.) Hell, I remember sending messages to other RU-vidrs, and they gotten rid of that. And used to be able to comment on kid friendly videos(such as TV shows).
If written accounts of this race were accurate, Mario Andretti accomplished his savvy driving with a two-speed gearbox, as with most of the others in the race field, the oval-track setup of the cars, along with the engine torque-curve, didn't need a four or five speed gearbox. Then, to change-out a two-speed gearbox for a four/five speed gearbox [that is, if those gearboxes were available] for one race, it wasn't worth the time, expense, and resources to do so. Considering this was the first road-race for the USAC Champ Cars, it never got the prominence as the Riverside road course did in 1967. But then, that Rex Mays 300 race was about as drama-filled as one could be. Doubtful Hollywood could have scripted a better storyline of events in that cliff-hanging race for the race winner and USAC National Champ. But, the 1968 Rex Mays 300 was another drama-filled race that determined the USAC National Champ. BTW: That brief film clip from Art Malone's viewpoint: Malone was a successful drag racer prior to racing Champ Cars.
Drivers competing for positions, and tire makers also in competition back then, too, with Foyt on Goodyears while Jones and Lloyd Ruby raced on Firestones.
I was there and the crowd was going crazy for AJ and his dirt car. The video doesn’t show how excited everyone was. Sadly this was really the end of an era.
Guys like Hurtubise, Branson and Jones we used to call " three swing men" back in the day....meaning that when you hit them with a sledgehammer, they go down on the third swing...
Seeing AJ Foyt in this race, it is strikingly remarkable to know that two months earlier he won the NASCAR Firecracker 400 on the two-and-a-half-mile superspeedway with a last-lap battle with Bobby Isaac. I still can't wrap my brain around seeing Foyt driving a Dodge, I always associated him as a Ford man in the 1960s. Legend has it that Foyt drove a Dodge in 1964 as his way to tweak Ford's nose, as Ford denied him the DOHC engine for the 1964 Indy 500.
