Creo que la "verdadera" historia de Karen Carpenter aún no ha sido contada. El film de 1988 es un FRAUDE, porque sólo se enfoca en la anorexia de Karen, como una obsesión meramente "estética". Sin buscar las respuestas en la relación familiar, especialmente en su madre Agnes, o incluso la responsabilidad de Richard en su desenlace. Aquí hubo alguna grave disfunción familiar que afectó la autoestima y salud mental de Karen. La familia es la BASE del desarrollo personal y emocional de todo ser humano. Aquí algo falló desde el principio. Sólo espero que nuestra querida Karen Carpenter descanse en paz, la misma paz y amor que no tuvo en vida.
Bryan...Your Dad was a brilliant broadcaster and radio personality. As an announcer, musician, and radio historian myself, I can tell you for what it's worth, that my favorite LA radio jocks were Robert W. Morgan and your Dad. Also. I always thought that it was so cool of Chuck Woolery to thank your Dad and mention his name on the game shows that he hosted, for which your Dad was the off camera announcer. He had a clean, crisp sound, was quick witted, and was fantastic talking up a record; and as you say, was fluent and had a facile way of conversing with anyone. He was a tremendous, tremendous talent.
Karen Carpenter and Olivia Newton-John are two longtime favorites of mine. It is so sad what happened to Karen. She died so young but in a way she will live on forever I think. Karen passed on before I was born. But I love her and her brother's music and that fandom has already rubbed off on my three-year-old. The first song my baby girl ever sang to me was a Carpenters song. She sings it all the time. She knows the lyrics. It's "I Won't Last a Day Without You." I'd like to think that Karen would be really happy to know that there are kids who were born decades after her passing who admire her and her body of work.

Eating disorders, much like mental health disorders were not taken as seriously as they are today. A lot of the stigma around these diseases have thankfully gone by the wayside in the past few decades, but there's always more work to be done to help those who suffer. Hopefully this documentary sheds a little bit of light on a serious illness.
Perfection is what we seek when the closest fan of yours never validates your worth. Her mother and father never told them they were loved. As in my life, the parents are to blame for being overly critical and not emotionally supportive. It's tragic and sad.

Agnes came from a generation that favored their sons more so than their daughters (especially Germans). That's why Richard could do no wrong and Karen was not recognized for her God-given outstanding vocals and drum abilities from her own mother. I came from a family band whereas my sister was the drummer but she WAS recognized for her drumming talent and an excellent voice. She traveled the world on USO tours with famous country artists but ended up physically burnt out (MS). The entertainment industry can be brutal. I was totally ignored (parents were the same generation as Agnes) but my brothers got taught other trades and prospered in them. I ended up homeless and in poverty. I was on the same diet Karen started out on (Stillman diet) and lost a lot of weight. It was a big deal back then (born in 1955). Then my sister-in-law died from anorexia (born 1954) and I watched her wither away - just like Karen. It's heartbreaking - the mind is incredibly powerful. IMO, Karen thought she would never be 'perfect' with her weight - for her mother or herself. Throw in a con man for a husband. This, in itself, is a tragedy beyond measure. The best female voice of all time, an incredible drummer, and she's gone at 32. Thankfully we'll hear Karen's voice throughout eternity with her music and like him or not, Richard did design every song to perfection - around her voice. Karen sings to all of us. Sweet lady - we'll never forget you. Parents - love your children and tell them often how loved they are.
There was a little corner grocery store in East Haven called Baltimore’s. A lady who worked there knew Karen and Richard when they lived in New Haven. I loved Karen’s beautiful, smooth singing, they were just becoming popular, and I so enjoyed hearing her talk about Karen so personally. Alas, the store is gone, the building is torn down, Karen is, sadly, no longer with us. But we have our memories, and I am glad I found this video.
I think that Karen's mother did not want to display or acknowledge to Karen that she was a great talent. Some people, even parents, never grow out of some emotions that are most commonly seen in rival siblings. Karen must have grown incredibly hurt by the hardness that she eventually realized her mother was showing against her. Karen's eventual reaction was to find some way to draw at least some sliver of praise from her mother--which still never came. So Karen became even more desperate and started to do destructive things to herself in hopes that it would, finally, break down her mother's hardness toward her. But sadly, Agnes couldn't overcome her child-like emotions and Karen ended up dying from the heart damage. All because Agnes couldn't bring herself to give her child the praise she so desperately wanted. Sad.
Just finished the first episode, great job everyone involved! WOW! Astrology + True Crimes, are my two favorites and this gives such depth behind the scenes! Great editing, i feel we walked through the whole case with all the charts and Meredith's great understanding and explanations! I would love to see a sentencing chart for him and see if justice can be found in the chart! Suggestions for future cases: Sharon Tate, Kurt Cobain, Tupac, Marilyn Monroe, Alex Murtdaugh, Gary Ridgway, Joseph DeAngelo (Golden State Killer), and the BTK killer.
