I live in rural Arkansas and have only seen 3 of them on separate occasions in the 5 years of living here and i have many different great songbirds but the red-headed woodpecker is the most beautiful bird 🐦.
I have read that they are more uncommon than they used to be. I've been in MN for 25 years and I'd never seen one. In the last two or three years I had one show up in my yard briefly on two separate occasions. Then I found where these ones are hanging out. I've gone back to that area 4 times in the last 2 months and have seen them every time. They are beautiful! I hope they stick around and thrive where they are.
