We have a passion for the outdoors and to get us further off the pavement, we have lightly modified Jeep JL unlimited's to get us there. Follow us as we make changes and enhancements to our jeeps and build up our vehicles for off-road and overland adventures. As we learn and do we will try and share as much as we can so maybe you get something from our how to installs or reviews of products we like and use during our adventures. Our trail adventures are captured to show the cool places we go, but also to give you a glimpse of where your vehicle can take you. You don't have to have a complex build, just the desire to leave the pavement behind.
Both the ladder and mattress do not weigh that much and especially the mattress would be a pain to remove, i keep the ladder in the jeep so i think this tent in particular is really light anyway so its a good one to have if your weight conscious

@@FischerJeepAdventures You can solve this with the vidIQ / Tubebuddy extension. If you are unable to do so, granting me permission will allow me to address this issue.
Studies have shown that the smell of petrol in your car, is no where near as offensive as the smell of an incinerated body after being rear ended, spraying flammable liquid over the entire vehicle, pending an ensuing inferno.
Well thats certainly a perspective that is yours, one thing you forget is the persistent exposure to the vapor that comes from gasoline is toxic to your lungs, cause a myriad of cancers, gets infused into every cloth surface, contaminates anything edible inside your vehicle, and last but not least creates when containing inside a closed vehicle a potential explosive environment as the vapor is extremely flammable, while yea if you are rear ended by tractor trailer or large enough suv to break the rotopax gas will leak but at that point its the least of your worries as the damage done to your vehicle most likely has a far greater effect on your life and i would much rather have gas spilling on the outside than on the inside not to mention the thousands of miles you exposed yourself and everything you own to the gas vapor you put in your vehicle
Thank you, I would say for money it is probably the best and most useful addition to the jeep, i have changed many things about my set up in the last few years but have always kept this table and use it every time we camp
@samanthathomas2044 We always take the used oil to the local autoparts store. Depending on where u live if there is an advance auto, autozone, orielys, pepboys, carquest and some napa and walmart tire and auto will accept used oil and dispose of it for free.
It adds a 2 1/2 inch spacer between the stock bump stop location. I reused the stock ones they fit into the spacer just like they fit in the stock housing
I've been to several of these places separately quite a few times but didnt think they could all be connected by mostly forest road or trails. I'll have to check these routes out and make a nice week of it. Thanks for the videos.
Plastic housings will break if you have incompetent people changing your oil. If you do it yourself like you do it will last the life of your car. And aftermarket to boot not good. If you’re worried about breaking it order an extra one and keep it for emergency. Just a thought
At the recommendation of everyone since i changed out the plastic one, I did purchase the metal toyota oil filter housing, the dorman lasted three oil changes with no issues at all, but i found a toyota housing for $30.00 so I bought it and installed it on the last oil change, I guess everyone thinks the dorman aluminum is cheaper than toyota but they looked the same to me, anyway your right if you use the right tool to take it off and do not overtighten it should last
Thank you, yes a regular suv can make it there are some spots where you will want to watch some of the rocks in the road, but its really a good road, there was Subaru out there doing just fine
@1ivandang awd is fine, i would be cognizant of the weather, dry its an easy ride, if they have had rain I would think hard about it, the mud out there is like grease and it sticks to the tires and would easy get you into trouble with a stock suv
Thanks I appreciate it, yes i have two nights in it so far and I really like it, I just moved to colorado and I want a couple more nights in it at elevation before I do the full review but so far I really like it!
Have a 23 TRD off road, Switched to 5w30 full synthetic. All the vehicles I have that use 0w20 all started using oil very early with about 50-75000 km…..switched to 5w30 and I measure about 250ml between changes 4-5000km interval.
bought the same gen 03 prerunner 250k miles accs cab and just had the motor rebuilt i love how simple these trucks are. cant wait to see your journey with this one.
Awesome, and thanks I am really excited about it! They are great trucks and the simplicity especially in the world electronics now a days is a breath of fresh air
Glad it helped with the decision, always best to avoid damaging something if you can help it, there are still Some good camp spots along the road to the left before you get to the rocks on the first part of the actual trail
You didnt there is not a way to lock the ratchet straps, plus they can be cut with a knife if people are determined, the lock on the rotopax is cheap insurance to make it difficult to take them, sure they can try and undo the straps and then get the assembly off and try and runaway with the entire mess, but i am going to make it hard, the harder things are to take the less likely the opportunistic criminal will act. So to your point yes they can still be taken but like I said I am gonna make it difficult to do so
I use a similar system... but with the much cheaper Long Haul cans from China. I put a lock on my strap but like he said, anyone can cut the strap or just siphon the gas. Siphoning the gas is how I'd prefer it to be stolen if it happens because that is the cheapest and easiest thing to replace. When it comes to this stuff, my thoughts are just to make it so some impulsive kid walking by can't take my shit. Anyone who comes to my jeep with a plan, I have very little defense from. I'm a believer that most of these crimes are targets of opportunity, and even a simple heavy-duty ziptie on the strap handle can make a kid walk away. If he can cut the tie, he can cut the strap. 🤷♂️
I got a 1993 Toyota Pickup with the 22RE from my uncle for $500 bucks lol. 5 speed manual, manual roll up windows, manual locks, 306K miles, and it's a long bed. It's 2WD but it never snows here so I am good with it. But the long bed is super useful. I love old Toyotas.
How is the 35s spare holding without a reinforcement? Is it still good or are you getting any shaking noise when you drive? After two years, have you noticed any difference or issues?
Indeed right! Its an old one but a good one, basic, simple, easy to work on and best of all the frame and all the undercarriage is rust free, most trucks this age on the east coast would be complete rust buckets unless really cared for
I still drive my land cruiser prado 90 series. Different body shell but the same chassis and suspension as your 3rd gen 4runner. It has the slower L series naturally aspirated idi diesel engine. It just doesn't wear out.
Thanks, I really like it, Yes if you lay them flat you can leave them in there, if you have real pillows they take up too much space an have to come out
I used to ride this trail on my "dual sport" back when you could go all the way through. I once met the original property owner of the now closed off section. He told me all about the community that lived there in his grandparent's day. He told me where the foundations of the general store and the schoolhouse are. He said his grandfather had a 2-wheel drive truck and a Ford Fairlane and could easily get around the whole community. It is too bad that you can't go through their anymore because it was so interesting. A few 'bad seed' 4WD people ruined it for everyone by driving into closed areas.
Wow thats really cool history thanks for sharing and yes it is frustrating for sure that a few carless folks ruin it for the vast majority of responsible people just put enjoying the trails.
So we tried a couple things the brake line anchor brackets by teraflex didnt work well in my opinion, so all i did was bend the factory bracket and used two zip ties pulled tight by a zip tie gun and they have been that way for 10000 miles with no issues, my plan has been to just replace the zip ties each year and let it be, seems to work in my setup
Mind if I ask how tall you are, and how you fit? Typically issues with toes in the wedge of tent, although this looks like it opens to 40 degrees or so…
I am 6’9 240, and i fit pretty good, i cannot lay on my back stretched out but other wise i have plenty of room, being my size you learn to sleep on your side. But i can sit up and have space left its plenty roomy with me and my wife. Hope that helps?
It rides great soft when it needs to be but firm when you also need it to be, minimal body roll so it corners great, I would buy it again without hesitation!
I’m looking for a real 2.5” lift kit to replace my spacer lift…this AEV has been getting good reviews. Also looking at Duratrac, JKS and Clayton Overland (which includes all 8 control arms, front and rear track bars, springs).
Those are great options and i looked at all those as well. Settled on the AEV lift simply because of reputation and great reviews from those that had tested it and I was not disappointed with my choice the system is balanced and rides great, there are other kits that offer extra bits but with that i think you get an inferior coil spring and shock combo and thats truly where the ride and handling is
Thanks for the video. How wide is your Jeep? I have a Rubicon Xtreme Recon which also has 35in tires. My exact dimensions 79.3 inches wide. Do you think that will fit?
Hey thank you for checking out the video, i was setting almost 80 inches the side walls were touching the rails of the trailer but it fit and made it 1700 miles across the country with no issues. I did inflate the tires to the max cold psi the shrink the width ever so slightly but yes you will fit!
my jeep keeps getting the service electronic stability and throttle control codes. It gets the check engine and the red lightning bolt. It is lifted and when I drive anywhere it just will randomly go into limp mode. It’s so frustrating. I checked the codes and they were for throttle body and accelerator pedal. Do you think the issue will go away if I replace both?
I am not a huge fan of just replacing parts. My guess is it is something electrical. Before replacing anything i would check to make sure all the fuses are pushed down all the way, make sure all the ground connections are tight, make sure the battery cables are tight, and i would inspect, clean, and reapply dielectric grease to them, just to make sure you have no moisture in the connectors, clear any codes with a code reader and see if that works first
Thanks for the video. Really helped. Just changed my girlfriend's oil on her 4runner. Man that front skid plate was such a pain to get detached. Took me twice as long as it takes to change the oil on my Tacoma.
If you change the oil like your supposed to with good quality oil and keep the airfilter clean I would say easily 150,000 to 200000 with any major issues, you will have normal maintenance items like with any engine, water pumps, plugs, coils, alternators, etc and depending on how hard you are on the motor maybe the turbo but I would doubt it. They are a solid platform
Great video.. maybe edit it with some overlay text telling the drain plug nut size, filter part number whether it’s mopar, Royal Purple etc.. and also filter wrench. 👍
hello do anyone know where the throlley body its on this jeep same engine ? no one has a video online and it giving me issues \check electronic throlley body message car goes on a limp mode thanks alot
The lift is set for an overlanding load, so once you load up in the back and in my case as well put on a roof top tent it leveled out nicely, if your not going to do that and just want the lift a spacer may work to give you the stance your looking for
Thanks, the truck is plenty capable, but there are some narrow spots and tight spaces coming up from the campground along the shelf road sections, i think it would make it but it might test your comfort levels, the other issue i can see is traffic, it really would make that a challenge if you meet other vehicles as there are few areas to pass and those that do exist are really tight
@@FischerJeepAdventures I’m on my 4th Wrangler. All started with a 2001 Jeep Wrangler TJ Sport. Learned a ton and put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it. Eventually sold it and upgraded Wranglers since.
Depending on if you got the steering wheel recentered it could be right away like mine or i have heard like 10 to 20 miles of driving making sure your turning to allow the sensor to read normal again
Sam is adorable! Love those dogs, yours is very well behaved. Do you harness him while you drive (the dog seat belt)…I haven’t researched them. My pup sits on my lap while I drive which is dangerous.
Thanks, sadly we had to put him to sleep a few months ago, the vet found late stage cancer in him during a check up, he was a great dog and we had far too little time with him, Sam had more miles offroad in the jeep than alot of people do. He will be missed, as to the seatbelt harness, no i have never used one, I am not a fan of tying a dog down as i feel it makes them super uncomfortable in the vehicle. Again people have lots of opinions about that but this is mine, I have had dogs since I was a kid and they have always been free to move in my vehicles, it has worked for me and my puppies for the last 50 years.
@@FischerJeepAdventures I’m so sorry for your loss…I agree about the seat harness as I’m not one to tie a dog down either. I was curious if it protected the animal in the event of a crash. Take care!
@barpatron I am not sure anything will protect a dog in a crash, the harness just teathers the dog to the single point of the seat belt connector. Which effectiveless turns them into a whip. In my career in public safety I have never seen a dog die in a car crash, I am sure some first responders can disagree with their own experiences, more often than not they pop out and run away leaving the owner who does not fair as well. Animals are pretty resilient and dont suffer from the same tensing injuries humans do in car crashes and especially in todays air bag laden vehicles the passenger compartment is safer for animals who are not restrained more than ever. Just my .02
Thanks for the video. I just purchase a 4Runner Limited. I have ~500 miles on it, how many miles do you recommend for the first oil change? I understand it should be done earlier in the process because of the break-in period. 1-2k miles seems appropriate. Like to know your thoughts.
I always do 1500 for the first oil change, in my opinion it allows all of the factory break in lubricant in the motor to do its job. Just something I have always done and it seems to work. I am sure there are plenty of opinions out there but thats mine! Congrats on the purchase
How is the ride with the new springs? I have the standard AEV springs and was thinking about upgrading to the heavy-duty AEV springs. I just heard they may be stiffer.
Greg the ride is a little stiffer when empty but its not bad the progressive rate takes alot of the harshness out vs a single rate spring and when loaded it rides great which is what my intent was when getting them to make sure i have the best ride when loaded down but also had a good ride when empty and with my set up these springs do that. I would get them if you are considering them.
in the video you did not seem completely happy with the shocks. what setting did you install them on soft or sport? ive read several post where people say get the 2dr model shocks for the 4 dr jeeps cause they are softer. if you could do it over would you keep what you have or would you order the same shocks except for a 2dr model which would be a little softer or get a completely different shock? im mainly curious about daily driving use.
So I have them on the sport setting as i prefer the stiffer ride that give move dampening on the trail and have found over time i actually prefer it on the street as well, to do it over, bang for your buck i would buy them again same model same setup as it works great for what i do with the jeep, if money was not an option i would buy the new 3.3 fast adjust piggy back shocks because it really gives you the most adjustability for DD, loaded un loaded, gravel roads, wash boards, trails, light rock crawling/ real off camber terrain. But after several thousand miles offroad on the falcon 2.1s i am really happy with them
Thanks for the quick response, I just ordered the same falcon shocks as you but I’m noticing on the shocks it says 2”-3” and I have the teraflex 3.5” springs but I also see your shocks say the same thing. I should be fine right?
@lmsgodztorres9132 yes you should be fine the aev springs are stiffer than the teraflex ones and I have had no issues after 5000 offroad miles in some pretty dynamic terrain
Thanks for the video. I did notice a little drip of oil on the oil filter housing little cap at The bottom. I just did my oil change on my 24 at 1K and a few days later I noticed it had a little drip similar to yours, I just retorqued it but haven’t checked it again. Is that something common you see every time ?
@rositahl absolutely and yes it is normal to get a little residue oil to collect at the bottom of the housing after changing the filter both the oil filter housing and the bottom cap have o rings that should have been replaced and they are what makes the seal. It should dry out after the residue either drips off or the heat makes it reduce, if you get under there and there is a obvious continual drip i would check those orings again, you can buy just the orings if you need them
