In this video, I install the new FSR Aspen Lite Tent on the Jeep. in a previous video, I made a setup video of the tent and went over the tent. Here we put it on the jeep and get it set to go camping. i was very happy with the quality of the tent, the construction, and it appears FSR included all the important things to make the tent functional and install a breeze. you can definitely tell alot of thought was put into it.

Thanks I appreciate it, yes i have two nights in it so far and I really like it, I just moved to colorado and I want a couple more nights in it at elevation before I do the full review but so far I really like it!

Thanks, I really like it, Yes if you lay them flat you can leave them in there, if you have real pillows they take up too much space an have to come out

Also, for others who are interested in buying, I called FSR yesterday to ask what the “pre-sale” meant. They said they are currently sold out, so you can purchase it now for the discounted price, but it won’t ship until at least January, 2024. Just an FYI!

I just got my Aspen Lite this past weekend. I know they don't advertise it for this particular tent. Would you think adding crossbars to the top would be a good idea? Would be great to be able to mount some light weight stuff on top, like solar panels and traction boards.

I think my only reservation with that would be the cover, they say you dont need it however in my use the cover is well worth the extra protection, i guess you could leave the cover on all the time and just make slits for the roof rack, i think the other issue is the extruded aluminum that frames the tent shells is not designed to have a load on them especially a wind load which you would get with a solar panel and even traction boards, and they do not recommend it so if you were and something happened to the tent they would certainly not warranty it. I weighed those option when i got mine but decided the tent had more benefits than negatives with that respect, i like the versatility of the hard shell but the cost outweighed them which is why among other reasons i went with the aspen lite xl

Mind if I ask how tall you are, and how you fit? Typically issues with toes in the wedge of tent, although this looks like it opens to 40 degrees or so…

I am 6’9 240, and i fit pretty good, i cannot lay on my back stretched out but other wise i have plenty of room, being my size you learn to sleep on your side. But i can sit up and have space left its plenty roomy with me and my wife. Hope that helps?

Awesome setup! I have been really interested in this tent, but am worried about the noise with the loose material on the bottom and top. Have you gotten a chance to camp in it yet?

Thanks, I have not been able to go yet I also ordered their 270 awning and am waiting for it to come in, i wouldnt worry about that i think its pretty solid stuff

Both the ladder and mattress do not weigh that much and especially the mattress would be a pain to remove, i keep the ladder in the jeep so i think this tent in particular is really light anyway so its a good one to have if your weight conscious

Awesome review! I watched both your unboxing and this one, and they were super helpful. Thanks! I’m really close to buying one, but I have a question for you. What are your thoughts on mounting this on top of a Bean teardrop trailer? It’s a Thule roof rack with two crossbars. Do you think the length would be an issue? Also, the camper is 7’ tall, so with the Aspen open, the total height to the peak of the tent would be about a little over 12 feet. Having seen it on top of your Jeep, what are your thoughts on that? I just want to make sure it’s not too long, or too tall! Thanks in advance!

Awesome thank you, glad it was helpful, those are cool trailers i have seen a few with rtt on them, and i dont see why the tent would not fit, i guess the only thing would be how high the hatch comes up, looking at them online it look like they may come up to roof height and stop or just slightly above? If thats the case I think you are good to go if it extends up inches beyond the plane of the roof rack bars then it might be too long for the cross bar system thats on there! I wouldnt worry about the overall height, thats just a parking issue while picking your camping spot

Beast mode putting in on by yourself. Looks good on the jeep. Is it about as wide as the wrangler? Does not look to hang over the sides to much. Also when you get a chance could you see if you can close it with the matress pumped up. Thank you. I’m ordering mine this week.

Thanks, it was awkward for sure picking that thing up but when your by yourself it is what it is, as to the mattress yes ill open it up after work today get the mattress inflated and let you know

The tent is about as wide as the jeep I would say its right in line with the edges of the hardtop, as to the matress once inflated you can still close it without any trouble and it looks like you can even keep your bedding in there if you fold it in towards the center. Hope that helps

Do you think there is a way to mount directly to the rhino rack mounts without the rails? Looks like there is a channel on the tent base that might align w the mounts on the hardtop

Your going to need a mounting surface of some kind, whether you use cross bars or a platform to mount the tent to. The mounting rails come pre installed on the tent running front to back and they are well inboard of the rhino rack backbone mounting plates, you could use their low profile feet to get the tent closer to the hard top but that creates its own challenges in getting your hands, fasteners, and tools in between to secure the tent to the mounting system of the vehicle

Thanks for the demonstration! I'm really hoping it will fit in my garage mounted on top of my truck. I see they list the closed height as 7.5". Do you know if that is just for the tent or does that also include the two horizontal rails on the bottom of the tent?

@FischerJeepAdventures I have placed an order when it went on sale just before Thanksgiving and would have to wait until Jan '24 since they run out of stock. In the meanwhile, I did some research if there are other alternatives within this price range but couldn't find anything near what Aspen lite have such as tri- layer, mattress, weight and roominess.

I had done the same research trying to find comparably equipped tents for the price point and was unable to find anything that i felt i would be interested in purchasing. I think all of the things you said are exactly why the tent seemingly sold out in just a few weeks, I am thankful i was on the front end of that tents launch and was able to get one. I think it also speaks to the quality and value of the product which obviously attracted so many buyers so quickly. Many folks have commented that they are having to wait for extended deliveries due to the selling out. My awning parts came yesterday, I can tell you that FSR’s customer service was awesome and in today’s market that is rare.

what was the turnaround time on it being delivered from when you ordered? Work puts me on a time crunch so thats one of the biggest factors in which tent i go with

Hello, thanks for the question. In my instance from order to delivery took 10 calendar days, it was delivered on a pallet in a straight truck with a lift gate, the delivery driver was great and rolled it right into my driveway

Thanks for the question. I installed the rhino rack backbone system to hold the weight thats rhino rack #RJLB1 And then i added the rhino rack hd cross bars rhino rack #RB1500B those are the 59 inch ones on my jeep. Hope that helps
