I just finished the drama, donghua, and novels this year, and it's become my absoltue favorite. the entire scene at the temple in the novel was really well done, and they did the best with what they could in the other adaptations. I do sgree that in the drama they definitely pushed wwx away from his more gray standing that he has in he novels to exhonorate him of some of his deeds. I liked how he was not purely black and white, and showed that morals are unique to a person, and people can be gray and not consign to what we think is wrong or write. JGY is also so itneresteing as an antagonist bc he is a bad person, but not entirely, and the drama tried to make him definitely seem more evil. he did good things, and he did care about people. he cared about Xichen, and i truly believe that outside of his mother he was the one person JGY would never lift a hand to. he was a victim of his circumstances who let it rot him, doesnt excuse what he did, but it shows that even good hearted people can be completely lost to their own want to be heard and accepted by society. i also think the romance def has a diff starting point in the untamed than the novels, and wei ying definitely had feelings during that first life. tho i love the novel idea of lan zhan falling for him the night they met on that rooftop bc wei ying collapsed his world with a simple sword fight and brazen disreguard for rules. he was his opposite, the challenge to everything the then 16 year old knew, and the more time they spent together at cloud recesses cemented that. wei ying was also the only person who tried to get to know him, for him,. it mentions that most of the lan clan avoided lan zhan bc of his nature, and su she's view that he was conceited kinda shows how he could have been percieved by others. wei ying was different, he challenged him and then just wanted to get along with him, he was lan zhan realizing he can be his own person, he can find his own views, fight for his own beliefs, and he did.
There’s a lovely moment that I don’t see mentioned yet, when they are traveling with the arm and one night they need to play a duet to subdue it. Lan Zhan looks over at Wei Ying as they are playing, working together like true partners, and smiles. It’s this beautiful little moment of domestic bliss… while suppressing the resentful energy of a demonic arm, but you know, to each their own!
I just found this drama on Netflix (in the US, it's June 2024) and I am completely obsessed with it. I don't care that it's six years old. The acting is superb and I am a sucker for romance of any genre. Really, what is better than a hard-won love story? I had to then purchase the books just to find out the author's original story. I'm no teenager. I've read or watched every romance story I can get my hands on in my 75 years beginning with Thomas Costain's The Black Rose as a preteen up to this drama. A lot of them have roots in China. I completely agree with you that the Chinese are masters of unrequited love. Wish I had seen your critiques sooner. I also wish I had been able to afford travel in my youth when relations between China and the US were better. Now I have the money and cannot go. Will men ever realize we are all the same and quit threatening war as a solution to everyone on planet Earth?
Honestly I think the novel is very romantic. But it make sense y they won’t get along at first wwx very chaotic while lwj calm their personalities would clash naturally. Plus them being distant to the war make sense. Wwx have a crush on lwj in the cloud recess arc I think it like him pulling a girl pigtail. Their misunderstanding r natural bc lwj is honestly horrible at displaying his feeling and wwx have lot of thing to deal with. Also I like novel mianmian better. Bc her a slave girl who upgraded to a cultivator choose to throw it all away to defend wwx is more meaningful then her storming out when she a jin disciple. I feel like it more impactful. Poor wwx getting kidnapped by lwj. I love how the novel wwx is morally gray and bamf and it not all jgy fault. Wwx is the boss Loss golden core: Jc: Guess I will die now Wwx: thrown in the burial mound and invented a whole as new form of cultivation
I think the novel is the best. I watched the drama first and fell in love with it so I showed it to my mom and watched it with her for the second time. Then I read the novel. Now I am disappointed in the drama adaptation. Biggest reason is that in the drama they have changed the personalities of the characters. Drama has given alot of screen time to supporting characters. Most of the characters appear very little in the novel. But still their impact is huge. I think with all the changes mdzs lost its meaning when it comes to the drama. Here is an example. TU: "he told me... he took you as his confidant, so he should trust your integrity." Mdzs: "he told me... that while he could not say whether your actions were right or wrong, he was willing to carry the burden with you, regardless."

and in episode 6 Wei Ying and Lan Zhan they more or less slept together when Lan Zhan was drunk, there was Wei Ying's belt on the floor next to the bed
Very late viewer but the blind girl is A-Qing! I'm just a lil sad she wasn't named in this video cos she was one of the main characters of the Yi City Arc. And I mean, she was the main person who unalived Xue Yang and got her revenge/justice for XXC by using LWJ as her weapon. And she had been spending years driving away passer-bys so they wouldn't get harmed by Xue Yang. I know she's a girl in a danmei but still 😢
Thank you so much for explaining the beauty of Asian Slow-burn (build-up) romance ... It's been years when I gave up Hollywood sex romance (as if there is no other expression of love than jump-to-bed-at-first-sight romance) ... Haisst! and love in The Untamed has indeed given us new expressions of love that just gives me all the thrills ("kilig" in Pilipino) and swooning that I get when enjoying a good Romantic movie ... Thanks so much!
I still want to know why WWX dropped his belt in Cloud Recess,that time he was drinking Emperor's Smile outside Lan Zhan's Jingshi. Or is it an innuendo like the chicken scene?
Thanks for your explanation After watching the drama I have doubt whether they are sincere friends or lovers !!! Your Video give all the hints Noticed some other points as well 1. Lan Zhan don't like anybody touches him . Nobody will go near to him as well. And noone is eligible to speak with him as well. But always he will speak & explains things with Wei Ying. Always holding Wei before falling down . On the bridge he is carrying him on back and holding him tightly on his shoulder in the inn and Wei smiled 2. Lan Zhan got drunk and on the next day he asked what he has done . When Wei Ying told ‘you told that you like … ‘ then his panic face explains very well 3. The burned mark on Lan Zhan’s chest . And he was not hiding his body this time. last time he hided his body from Wei Ying. Wei Ying told before the saved girl will remember him for his life time with that mark. Now it’s a lifetime remembrance for him as well 4. If anyone is there also without noticing them all the time glances each other 5. While Wei Ying fell down on top of Lan Zhan , his glance at him 😍 6. Lot other hints like chicken, rabbits , asking his sis about love , cave scene , in lotus lake Wei Ying laying on Lan Zhan’s lap, their 3 times bow down , hair band touching & tying together , Affectionate look etc etc. it is really clear that they are in love. Not a simple friendship 🥰🥰🥰 Enjoyed the drama!! But struggling to come out from that now 😒
Let's not forget the BTS where XZ keeps calling WYB a trash boyfriend because he cared about him after he died LOL and the directors tells the love birds to stop arguing ! XD
those who made such bad action, bad remarks were really evil…XZ is really a nice person…those kind of so called fans were not true fans but fake fans…and those involved with all the evil things should be ashamed of themselves…making such a nice person like xiao zhan to be a victim…and to suffer so much…he is a gem,so precious…its a loss whoever who sabotage xz…
when i watched this video…in awe…such feud between fans and relevant bodies? are they really fans or haters disguised as fans? how could some people be so obsessed,so evil in their intention and action…is this part of a culture or just an isolated case?phewww…such attitude,such people!!!have they ever thought about the bad things that they hv created to a young talented,v nice person like xiao zhan…such a waste… and luckily,after such difficult time, xiao zhan is back, looking so good, more handsome than ever,his talent is amazing…the oath of love and the ost is amazing…may god bless xiao zhan and grant him peace,succes to greater heights, and eternal happiness…and may god punish those people who did bad and evil things towards him.
Did Xiao Xingchen have feelings towards Xue Yang before finding out who he really was? And what was Xue Yang planning to do with him if Xiao Xingchen didn’t kill himself?
It wasn't one-sided. I think that Xiao Xingchen developed very strong feelings for Xue Yang. In the beginning they were both lonely outcasts who took comfort in each other's company. What's more, the empathetic XXC was drawn to broken things and broken people, and the world had certainly broken XY. Later, as they got to know each other better, XY entertained and amused him--- unlike Song Lan who, though a good guy, never really had a sense of humor. As to XXC's question "Was it fun?" Well, in actual fact, yes, because the two of them DID have fun together. If XXC hadn't killed himself surely XY would found some way to control him and keep him compliant. He might have threatened A-Qing and Song Lan as a tactic.
Man idk. Xue Yang seems like he was born with psychopathic tendencies. No tragic backstory can make someone enjoy mutilating little girls (a-qing), experimenting on humans or committing genoc!de. He wiped out an entire clan (including kids, the elderly and dogs) for one finger. By that logic if Yu Ziyuan whipped Xue Yang even once with Zidian (as she did often with Wei Wuxian), Xue Yang would also retaliate and at the very least attack if not kill her.
@khloelee523 actually that's not true. Anti social personality disorder shows up in two different ways. Psychopathy is via being born that way but sociopathy comes from childhood neglect and abuse. It is entirely possible that XY is a made monster, not a born one. In fact, according to what I've read, psychopaths can't form emotional connections to others at all while sociopaths very rarely can. I think it's very clear XY was emotionally attached to XXC so considering both that and his childhood, if it was intended for him to have ASPD, then he's a sociopath, not a psychopath. As for the issue of Madam Yu, she'd be offset by the love XY would get just from Yanli and WWX alone. The problem is he was never loved or helped and all he knew was cruelty. If he had the chance to experience those things then he'd likely be very different. His actor certainly has said so which I know isn't nearly as high up as the author of the books, but it does seem probable. Edit: also I'm not sure what he did was a genocide. I'm pretty sure that requires specific details that are lacking in his actions.
I feel many people would disagree with me but I think I like the way the series portrayed their relationship. In the book, I did not get the feel that Wei or Wangji felt anything deep for each other. If anything I felt that Wei wanted to avoid LZ at any cost while LZ seemed to be chasing after him for some unknown reason. In other words, the feelings were very one sided. I liked it in some sense but I still prefer the series. In the series, from the beginning you kind of get the feeling that there is something between them whether it is him standing devasted after Wei fell, or Wei hiding but smiling like a shy little boy on seeing LZ or LZ holding Wei's hand and their first eye contact. Without any word, only by expression, you could tell there is something going on between them. And the entire story you feel even more drawn by how they became frds and traveled together and how everything took a 180. It felt more deep, more touching and more moving. Which is why I found the relationship aspect in the series much better than the novel. But I liked the detail of the plot in the novel better! And I preferred how in novel they showed WW as anti-hero and not all victim of circumstances. That made the contrast between LZ and WW that much more interesting!

Viele Fans können das nicht und stekcebn in The untamed fest. Ist vielleicht eine Generationsache. Ich bin fast 70 Jahre alt udn fühle mich wie 17 Jahre, wenn ich ihnen singen, tanzen oder schauspielern erlebe. Seine Interviews zeigen aber auch seine Innenseite, nachdenklichvoll mit der Weisheit seiner alten Kultur. Er inspiriert mich, besser zu laufen, kreativ zu sein und jetzt lerne ich chinesch, denn er hat mein Bild von China geändert udn so möchte ich das Land gern selbst erleben. Mir ist aber wichtig, dass man sein Orivatleben respektiert und trennt von seine Rollen, er ist nicht Wu Weixion oder Dr. Gu, er ist eine schillernde Persönlichkeit und verdient unser aller Wertschätzung. Er zählt einen hohen Preis für seine Berühmheit, deshalb hat er seine Reise nach Italien so genossen, dort konnte er seine geliebten Spziergänge machen und mal ganz normal in ein Restaurant gehen. Geben wir oihm die Möglichkeit diese überall zu tun. Danke an Alle, die ihn unterstützen, schützen, begleiten und lieben.
No he leído los libros, acaba de comprarlos del Play Store, pero aunque sacaron las escenas de los besos, de la despedida del final cuando se van juntos entre los arboles, solo el final fue el q no lo entendí y me puso triste, pero gracias a ti, lo vi claro, la serie me gustó creo q incluso más, las miradas, las insinuaciones, el deseo de Zhan de proteger a Wei y el cariño con el q lo hacía, las lágrimas cuando pensó q lo ha perdido, las búsquedas durante 16 años, no se, las insinuaciones sutiles me han gustado más, con ésta serie me di cuenta q no se necesita verlos besarse para expresar el amor q se tienen.
Gracias por abrirme los ojos sobre el final, estába muy triste por la separación, pensé q después de todo lo q sufrió, WuXian se merecía algo mejor q recorrer el mundo en soledad, ahora si estoy feliz al ver más claro el final y aunque no se ve Lan Zhan si se entiende q vuelven juntos tras un tiempo separados, la felicidad del rostro de WeiYing, la mirada como aliviada de ver a Zhan, lo dice todo. 🤗😊Hay más pistas del amor entre los dos, cuando WeiYing estába herido,Lan lo trajo en la casa donde vivió su madre, lo cambió de ropa interior con su ropa blanca, lo cuidó y el hermano mayor se dio cuenta de todo como cuando le dijo q lo quiere llevar a GuSu y esconderlo y le dijo q el no está dispuesto,cuando lloro bajo la lluvia al tener q dejarlo ir, al ignorar los castigos por ir a buscar a Wei, el dolor y las lágrimas cuando WenNing le contó como sufrió al transferir su núcleo espiritual a Jiang Cheng, y todas las veces q lo cojia con un cariño para no caerse, cuando le ató las manos con la cinta y lo arrastró a posada delante de los niños, pero mis escenas favoritas son las dos de las borracheras de Lan Zhan, la de los gallos me reí con lágrimas, tan mono.
Something that I wish could be explained was how exactly was the 3 yin metals that Wen Ruohan had destroyed so easily when their ancestors from back then couldn't and just merely hid the fragments apart. The show never talked about it and I haven't read the novel but heard that it was a combination of Lan Xichen's flute and Nie Mingjue's blade in combination that destroyed it. It kind of feels like it is too simple. Maybe there is an explanation about it in the novel.
Wish I could say, but the yin iron was made up for the show, which didn't explain it. 🤷🏻♀️ But you should definitely read the book. As much as I enjoy the show, the book is superior.
The actors that played Xue Yang and Jin Guang Yao are both so cute 🥰.🤭😏 It's difficult to hate them. It made the audience sympathized with their backstories. I wonder if the casting director choose them for their role because of that reason -to make us all sympathetic towards their characters. And they're really both good👍 actors. Not just have the good looks. 😉✌️🌎😇
WOOOW All of this is so crazy to me. All that energy put into pulling people down instead of lifting them up. What is wrong with people!! I need to hear ONE LOVE ONE WORLD.
