I make the diaphragm for my Zon bird scarer out of an inner tube from a jeep or small tractor wheel, it has to be thicker than a car inner tube but not as thick as a rear tractor wheel tube, it is just a flat piece of rubber that stretches slightly and it works for years with Propane gas.
Hi, While we were checking our new project, the same kind of bird scare cannon from dazon, we came across a problem with the spring shown around 1:15. We couldn't get the rod ,which moves with the membrane and lets the Flint spark, under tension without it standing upwards or coming loose. Do you have any tips for the right assembly method? With kind regards, Niels
I can't know which rod at which function you mean from your comment matched to the video. It is possible that the timing rod passing through the iron bell on top of the diaphragm has chipped the bell, or is coming too far upward. Sorry I cannot be more specific based on your comment. Can you video your unit in motion and show the problem?
@@TheWhiteleather thank you for your reply, I will make a video later this week or next week to show the problem. Hopefully, the video will explain the problem better than me with my crappy English as a Dutchman.
I found a rusty one just like this model at a flea market and it needs a set of springs that are located under the cover on the back of the barrel...Any help on this would be much appreciated
Bobb....not sure what springs under the back cover you mean. The only spring on the back is the one that feeds the flint into the striker. See my other vids on this model and see if you can clarify your question...or take a photo and add it here.
@@TheWhiteleather thanks for the reply. mine may be an older model as it has a complete cap that is held down by 2 thumbscrews. But on mine there are 2 Springs, 1 on each side that actuates the Flint mechanism I believe. Don't believe I can add a photo but I'll keep trying. I have a real basketcase on my hands it was quite rusted when I bought it but I only paid 20 bucks for it. If I figure a way to upload a photo I will....Thanks
thanks for the video this might help me ,mine wont fire it isnt as loose it wont trigger to fire ,not sure how the secondary diaphram bell works thanks
Dude, e-mail me directly and we will get it figured out. These are elegant, AMAZINGLY simple machines (...that will also blow your eardrums in..) to repair. Regards classic_guns@verizon.net.
Depending on your noise ordinances, yes it is designed to work 24 hours a day. It is made to disrupt the patterns of crop-destroying birds and drive them away...so irritation is its goal.
Hi! Thanks for vid! Wanted one of these for years! Picked one up 2 weeks ago. Mine is a Vox. No other markings other than "Purus" on the bladder and on a rubber plug for the carbide tank. Mine uses a plunger and spring to trip the mechanism, but the spring is not the correct one. Wondering if you may have any knowledge of this type? Can't wait to hear this thing bark!!!! Thank you in advance!!!!
Your Vox is carbide powered. My Zon is propane powered. I think you can convert yours to propane as carbide is messy, corrosive, and smelly. The conversion will work as long as your bladder and spring system is intact. The "Pur" on your bladder is likely for the latex rubber material. My experience with carbide is for making soda bottle 'bombs'. As kids we used to drop carbide 'rocks' into plastic soda bottles half filled with water. You screw on the cap and run like heck! The pressure blows up the bottle, sends out a pressure wave, then a wave of sulphurous stink. FUN!! If you search for "VOX carbide cannon" you can see a pic of the Zon company's VOX-61. It looks identical to my cannon, but you can see it is attached with a carbide tank instead of propane. I believe you only need to make a switch of tanks.
@@TheWhiteleather thanks for the reply. I have mine working on air, fiddling with the pressure and flow. I'm having trouble getting mine to spark reliably. I ordered 1/8 inch ferrocium rods to cut down. Just not right. I think lighter flints would be too small. And I've determined the spring on mine is likely not orig. But I have it cycling down to about 20 sec.
@@TheWhiteleather Hi! Tried running mine on propane, no luck. Propane's explosive concentration only goes up to about 10%. But yours seems to inject a way higher volume than mine. Giving me fits! Keep trying I guess. I have managed to get the cycle anywhere from about 15 sec to over 2 min. so I guess that part is working well.
Hello! I’m restoring an old carbide “Scare Away” bird cannon. It has 6 hoses! Does anyone have a schematic or assembly instructions for this? I found one RU-vid video of one working but hose placement is not clear. Thanks, Matt
