I love your videos! I’m getting ready to make my first mold. You put my mind at ease to jump in and do it! One question…I’ve seen molds that have extraordinary sparkle. Can you tell me how to get those results? Thank you so much.
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 13 часов назад
Thank you for watching! Can you elaborate on the sparkles? It could be glitter or just lots of mica powder. I don’t suggest glitter in molds though because I’ve heard of the glitter transferring from the mold to the final piece and it leaves a little spot in your mold where the specks originally were.

@@EllafulDeco IntoResin has some molds that shine like crazy! I ordered their little flower mold. I love the shine! Thank you so much for replying! I didn’t tell you I tried to go to your website. I forgot what it said. Wasn’t available though. Thx again! Yvonne

I don’t know what mold you’re talking about, but when you say shine, are you talking about the mold itself or the final piece that comes out of the mold. If it’s the piece that comes out of the mold, that depends on the master that you’re molding. The silicone picks up the texture of the piece you’re molding. If you’re molding a matte tray, you mold will give you a matte finish. If you’re molding a shiny tray, your mold will give you a shiny finish. I hope this answers your question.

I don't think you're supposed to wrap the seal around the can like this. Just leave it on the lid, the vacuum will compress them together with the seal in between.
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 3 дня назад
You’re probably right, but it was really difficult to remove the lid when I did it that way so that’s why I wrap the seal. I’ve been using it this way almost daily for 4 years now and it’s still working like day 1, reaches the maximum vacuum without issues so I guess it doesn’t matter.

Thank you for the info! I’m just curious, this resin you said is meant for 1 inch pours, but your sphere looks a lot bigger than 1 inch. How was it still okay to pour and avoid flash curing?
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 22 дня назад
Thank you for watching! The sphere is about 2" and I poured about 1.75" for the first layer. It was ok because the volume was small. TotalBoat's website listed this resin's max depth as 1" for smaller castings using less than 16oz of epoxy. I think I poured maybe around 6-7 oz at first so it wasn't too much to cause it to flash cure. The depth may have caused the first layer to cure faster though.

Do you ever have issues with the resin getting bubbly? X
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Месяц назад
Resin produces bubbles in the process of mixing the two parts so when you're mixing resin, mix slowly. Pouring the resin a thicker layer than it's supposed to will also result in the bubbles getting trapped in your pieces once it's cured. I use a heat gun to help with surface bubbles. If I'm using a deep pour resin, I will use a vacuum chamber to help remove majority of the bubbles in the mixture.

Is there a way to deal with the bubbles. Every time I try to add a sheet to the resin it creates bubbles.
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 2 месяца назад
I haven’t really experimented much with it reduce bubbles. I just add a top coat to fill in the bubbles, but top coating is also what I do with all my trays for the extra shine. You can try to apply resin to the film first before placing it into the mold. I dip flowers in resin to help reduce bubbles, so that may work for the film.

Your work is beautiful and very well done. I am looking to use whole rose blooms and need something easier due to trouble with my hands. I notice you are diligent with proper tools. How do you safely clean and dispose of trace resin from your projects? I have worked it on how to be safe mixing and making but not sure how to dispose of/clean mixing containers etc. Do you have a video on that aspect? Many thanks.
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 2 месяца назад
Thank you! I let the resin harden, then peel them off the containers. I keep the cured resin to reuse in future pieces to save on material as well. I don’t have a video covering that specially, but this is something I make with my the cured resin from cups and stuff - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9D65wuE6RRg.html.

I heard silica gel solidifies once it comes in contact with air and then its useless....can you pl elaborate and tell what to do?
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 3 месяца назад
From my experience, it does not. It is exposed to air as I am covering the flowers. It will absorb the moisture from the air if you leave it out, but you can always recharge it to use again. The silica gel that I use is linked in the description if you want to try that out. If your silica gel solidifies when it comes in contact with air, you should contact the manufacturer of the product for further instructions or ask the source of the information to assist you.

Hi, my flowers colour got changed when crying in silica gel. they were pink roses.. and now turned almost pale yellow. Any tips to not do the same thing again, as I need the original colour retained?
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 3 месяца назад
Hello! It could be that the silica gel needs to be recharged. If not, then that may just be how that flower dries. Not all flowers dry the same, for example tropical flowers tend to dry brown for me. I will have to color enhance it to get the original color back.

You mentioned it was transfer foil, so wouldn’t you just rub it to get the color transferred?
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 4 месяца назад
This foil uses heat to transfer. Deco foil has a transfer gel that would allow the foil to transfer to the surface with the gel. I don’t know if just rubbing the foil onto the surface would work due to the process for this specific heat transfer foil that I have. Maybe there are foils that can just be rubbed on, but I’m not sure.

I followed a similar guide but my resin receded from the edges and almost repelled against the window film! Do you know what may have caused this? My surface was level 😅
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 4 месяца назад
I resined the sides of the board as well to make sure the film is completely sealed in the piece. Otherwise, even if the resin stuck to the film, it can still be peeled off. The window film is also smooth so there’s nothing for the resin to grip onto. Kind of like if we were top coating the sides of a piece, if we don’t sand it, the resin just slides right off. Hope this makes sense.
