For all those wondering why Somaliland choose to join somalia This was result of a decision taken in haste and anger because the British gave away thier somaliland territory, the Haud and Reserved Areas in 1954 to Ethiopia without consulting the people. Families found themselves seperated by a border overnight. The people fiercely demanded independence from the British as a result of this betrayal. The British finally agreed and set a date for 1960. The desire of the people was to unite with our fellow Somalis in Italian Somalia to not just gain back the Haud and Reserved Areas, but a more ambitious Greater Somalia, how ever the union was misstake and I don't blame my forefathers for this error.
I am from Somaliland myself and we are stronger United with the south. We are one people, it was the Italians and British who divided our forefathers that's why they recombined. I'm not saying forget the past, but I hope we can join under a new flag that's different to the two flags we have now. (Remember neither government/flag is older than 100 years)
