Nordamark is a swedish agrotech company that is focusing on developing and providing a hydroponic/soilless microgreens watering system for commerical growers. The system allows you to scale your production bit by bit which means you can start growing and learning on your kitchen table then scale it to a larger commerical operation in your own time.
Very cool that it's not plastic packaging! But are the small boxes (in the video at around 30 seconds) sold at retail grocery stores? How are the bottoms of the paperboard boxes not warping from the moisture of the roots and the water just applied? Is it a CUK type board with a wet strength additive? What mil? Why the open top cuts vs a bigger window protected with cellophane? Do stores and customers refrigerate to stop the growth or leave them in the open like other bigger living plants sold in produce sections? How long do they last in the store without being watered? How do customers get the greens out to cut them, just flip the little boxes over? Sorry so many questions! I'm in the USA and SO EXCITED to see you doing this!
The small boxes is sold at grocery stores, for resturants a larger version is usually used. The hempfiber contains most of the moisture and these particular boxes have a slightly thicker bottom and allows more water before they become saggy. You cant really use a cellophane on top, as moisture need to get out otherwise it can start to mold, also the plant leafs acts as a lid in it self, preventing moisture loss. If you keep the Microgreens cold (about 6-7C) they can last from 7-10 days and the cold prevents further grows, and no extra water is needed to be added. They open the box and just pull out the products, sure its less messy when you use plastic but many dosent mind getting a bit wet as long as the product look good, also most distrbuters here will pref carton over plastic which is also why carton is used here as well.
Without palstic thecartons would get very soggy very quick when in contact with water. Whoever sold the materials to you either lied or were lied to. There is a green alternative but it's near impossible to make sure that algae based plastics don't contain petrolium. A lab will be able to help you figure that out depending on who they work for.
Hi How does this system send the water up from the box under the table? I looked into the test kit on your site, it doesn’t include a pump, do I need to buy one myself or the system doesn’t need one?
