Hi, I'm Sam. I've an unhealthy obsession for buying cars of any age or condition. Some I restore, some I modify, some I use and others I scrap but with all I have fun!!!
This channel is dedicated to classic & modern vehicles (predominantly cars) however I'm interested in all forms of petrol, diesel & steam transportation from any decade....nothing is off limits if its interesting I may well record it!
Follow me on a journey through personal restorations, rebuilds, salvage, project cars, shows, meets & events.
I'm focused on the Capri's. Where is the burger van and the ice cream van and tea and crumpet van. Hot days like this you got to have a bit of tea and crumpet.
Yes indeed!! Everything catering wise at events now seems to have to be upmarket! Fancy coffees, foreign cuisine & bespoke beers. Where's the good old greasy spoon gone? Can't beat a cash n carry burger in a chewy bun with cheap as hell ketchup that solves the issue of no vinegar on yah chips!!!
Cracking example. One of the best there for sure. Lovely colour as well. Very very envious! My Bongo doesn't quite cut it I'm afraid...must starting saving more!!
Thankyou that means a lot. Still very new to the whole media/YT world. Just doing it for memories in future years so never taking anything to seriously. All fun and games and just better than looking at pictures. Loads more videos to come as i've over 20 projects collected over the years!!!!!!
I recently renewed my hoses and filter on my '82 Scimitar. Filter is at the rear and was severely blocked (original filter!). I removed the left/rear wheel and bump-stop, and tackled most of it from the side. Nice video :)
Thanks. Yeah, thats stock location on the 6B. I'm going to secure mine to the chassis so its not floating and probably make a little guard to cover it to for extra safety from heat and or debris.
@@DipstickUK Apparently my filter is suppose to be secured with a padded P-clip, but I couldn't find a bolt hole. The new hoses are so thick and stiff, that I just stuck some neoprene padding to the filter, in case it knocks against the chassis. Best wishes from Ian.
Indeed she did. Her last Middlebridge Scimitar '1420H' is currently in a musuem. She owned 8 Scimitars over the years. Her 1st being a 20th birthday present.
It’s rather worrying what you discover folk have done on a vehicle! And it is there life there risking when they do these lash ups too! Least proper job done now, she will go like a rocket🤣
Indeed. Obviously a little bit of cash passed the MOT'ers hands as its one of quite a few issues i've found. Yesterday discovered the headlights aren't working.
the REALLY new 2023/24 ones are simply ridiculous in size....bigger than an Astra and some estates!!!! Pity they didn't rebrand them and change the name as Mini doesn't fit anymore.
6:03 The Power Steering on the R50 does naturally whine, it was a design “quirk” of the hydro-electric pump. It’s when it’s not whirring is the problem! Also, probably didn’t help it was running dry
Good to know. Been topped up since and still has the noise but at least my minds at rest now..thanks. My old Volvo V50 had exactly the same noise but had no issues.
Even the the electric motors on everything had electric motors!!! The front seats alone were a ridiculous weight. The wiring looms were just silly...never seen such thick ones in any car!
Thanks...far better than last years location where people just kept on walking in front of me while filming...even though I was stood in the road and the pavement behind was clear!!!
never been there but heard of the place, there was rumours of a second series 1 behind it, which your video confirms when you checked the back wheel it was actually the front wheel of the one behind (you can see the front wing at 3.35)
Love all the cars, beautiful setting. Wanted to see a Triumph 2000 mk 1, but they are getting very rare these days. I would have gone if I knew. last classic I have owned, Austin A30 Black about 6 years ago. Two years before that, a Standard Ensign with the 1670cc engine. Light blue paintwork on top, Old english white down the sides. Had many cars over the years, my favorite one was a Midnight blue Triumph 2000 mk 1. Reg VUU 239G, sold to brother in law. Took it from Penryn., back to Scotland, two tanks of fuel, full throttle, never missed a beat. Please, let me go back to the 50s and 60s.
Indeed was an excellent event. Can't believe I've never been having known about it for years. Will be going every year from now.....showing as well. I'm looking to buy something from the 1950's and 1930's but yet to decide. Will have to slim down my car collection first though.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed both the video and the event. Cracking Capri you have there. So, much jealously for so many cars!!! I had to settle for dusting of the Mondeo for this one...I was parked in the line in front of you :)
Great shame this is moving up country! I suppose there hoping for more foot fall to pay the bills. Hancocks fair used to have one of those FWD American trucks, I’ve got a photo somewhere . Wonder if it’s same one. They where big hear in Devon and cornwall before the days of anderton and rowlands Their equipment burnt to the ground on plymouth how and that finished them.
Yes it is that's why had to go and see it before it does. Some is going to a heritage railway for use and the rest is going into storage I believe. Great info regarding Plymouth...going to google that and have a read. :)
@@DipstickUK From what I’ve read sam, it was a suffragette demonstration got out of hand and hancocks gear was burnt to the ground. They never recovered from the fire there engine burrell her majesty was sold to freeman and McLeod granite quarries in penryn. And worked the quarries hear in mabe.
When I worked for EWS Railway this was a route I used when meeting with Emerys personnel to discuss various projects in Cornwall. It was always and exhilarating drive through as you never knew when you might find a rather large truck waiting to go through! Thought it had been given over to a cycle track. Pleased to see it still in use.
Yes in regular use. Keeps all the big trucks off the road as they can travel from Par Docks to Fowey via this route. It doesn't get opened up to the public anymore except on these kind of events. Strict rules and regs to follow when on it to. I believe its also being opened/used for those taking part in the Fowey Classic Car Parade after the show.
@@DipstickUK Yes being private now you don’t hear about it I bet. That tunnel must have been some Smokey for the enginemen. If it was on main line speed the pressure would of dragged the fire out of the fire hole door!😀
Thanks for sharing sam! Good rally by the look of it. Great turn out of old cars, I do like a model T. Always reminds me of the laurel and hardy films I suppose 😀
Yes it was very good. My 1st time going to this one and it was well worth it. It was nice to get out again and just enjoy events instead of battling far too many projects. Must cut back on a few but its hard. Unfortunately, no REAL big steam exhibits but they are only around the corner.
@@DipstickUK Yes we are all guilty of taking on too many projects🙂 Does you good to go and have a catch up with friends in the rally community! Just hoping for a dry west of England rally now🤞
Still not worth doing for the overall cost that it would entail. It was never bought with the intention of repairing but purely for the running gear, wheels & seats. Its already 50% stripped.
I passed one yesterday here in Yorkshire , just parked up in a farmers dilapidated shed, eventually they will move in along .Every time I pass by I can’t help myself and look ! ❤
Is it? I've not run it for more than 5mins each time. Barely crept over 120. Is there something i'm missing? I've no experience of these so any guidance appreciated :)
That's a very valid question! Been many years since they were actually 'wing' mounted and yet still more often than not they are referred to as wing mirrors when they are quite clearly door mirrors.
Thankyou. I'm just glad it can help others, give them the confidence to undertake tasks themselves and ultimately save on potentially large garage bills.
Has it got an auto choke carb that works using coolant temp? Had one on my mk3 Cortina ( 2 ltr) hell of a job starting on some cold mornings .Also is that a coolant temp sensor that's not connected on that pipe near the battery? Great channel and upload bye the way.
It may well have done in the past as that coolant sensor hasn't been connected in my ownership. Its on a 38 carb and manual choke currently. Whether its been converted because of what you say about cold mornings who knows. Thanks for the comments. I'm glad you like the channel. LOTS more to come on the Scimitar and many many other projects not yet highlighted in videos :)
Yes it is surprisingly comfortable still after 30 odd years. Although, I need to sort the height adjust as it goes up and not down...so sitting to high for ultimate comfort.
Keep the engine! Clean the engine bay up especially the aluminum bits and it will look stunning. The originality of this car is what makes it unique and beautiful. Nice thing that you could get the number plate surround from Germany. Ford still has lots of bits for old Fords in storage in Cologne.
Have you turned into Mondeo man!? I don’t think so Sam.😀 She has scrubbed up well for sure! In some way would be nice to not change the engine, As the years roll on she will become a car of that era for folk to see. 👍
Personally, I was a bit disappointed with the show and shine this year. Nowehere near the calibre of vehicles of 2023. Although, there were obviously a few stand outs. For me it was summed up by a couple of chaps I heard talking to a 'marshal' asking, "Is this it????....£15 for this????". They weren't best pleased that's for sure.
@@DipstickUK Yeah I looked at the online price for a full day was £37. Bit steep I thought. Hopefully next year will be better show and shine wize. I agree watching your video they didn't have as many interesting (stand out ) vehicles showing as they did last year although that school bus was awesome. The chopped up bug with Harley Davidson power and huge $X$ buggy got my full attention last year. 👍
No!!!! It wasn't mentioned anywhere in the usual sources...or at least I couldn't find it. Think most of them travelled down in convoy on the Friday so I'd have missed it anyway due to work. Infact, had to cut the show n shine video short as was on a strict schedule as had other commitments. I almost didn't go at all BUT decided last minute to go. I preferred last years showing though.
No, the show and shine was purely for 'preferred vehicles'. They are trying to stick true to their roots from 1987. RTTS all got a bit out of hand in the past with the modified car scene and trouble it caused in Newquay...the event didn't run for a decade. This new incarnation is aimed at keeping true to the original ideals of the event/movement.
