What is a Sidekick?

Many superheroes have a sidekick. Often, the sidekick is the true brains behind the operation, but the sidekick's job is to make the superhero look good.

That's my job! To make you look good when it comes to technology!

Technology is too hard! I get that. You can't know everything, but I can do my best to teach you about technology.

So, just relax and let me, Nerd Sidekick, show you exactly how to do tech stuff so YOU get to be the Technology Hero!

Think this will work on a HP All in One Envy 34xx series? I want 3 screens independent. Could this replace a expensive thunderbolt dock?
@NerdSidekick
@NerdSidekick 3 дня назад
Most likely it will work. The USB C port has to support DisplayPort (not all USB C ports do). Thunderbolt ports should support DisplayPort, and there are inexpensive converters that work with those if this docking station does not, for some reason.

Thank you for the very thorough video. Could you confirm for me, before I spend money, that this solution would work with a built in display adapter as opposed to an expensive graphics card. My Dell workstation only has an Intel UHD Graphics 630 display adapter. Documentation says it can only support 3 monitors. I have 2 DisplayPorts and 2 USB 3 ports available but would like to use 4 monitors. Will the display adapter even be able to output video through the USB 3 port?
@NerdSidekick
@NerdSidekick 10 дней назад
To output video through the USB ports, you will need something like the USB to HDMI adapter I demonstrate in the video. amzn.to/4c1hsNI So, with two DisplayPort ports on the computer, plus the two USB ports, you can probably output to four monitors.

Can you revisit the 800x600 monitor? If we adjust the resolution on the other monitors, can we increase the resolution on the 800x600 one?
@NerdSidekick
@NerdSidekick 16 дней назад
I don't think that will help, at least in my case. The version of DisplayPort that my laptop supports is not fully compatible with this docking station. To get the max resolution when using this docking station, your laptop must support DisplayPort 1.4 via the USB C port. My laptop, being older (2019), did not support this version, so I believe that is the reason it would not work at the higher resolutions.

Absolutely FABULOUS tutorial, I have been searching for two weeks on utube to find out how to build a computer. You show every step clear, concise, SLOWLY, most other donot show all of the mouse clicks and dropdown menus like you do. YOU are truly for a beginner as I am, THANK YOU SO MUCH. You have given me the confidence I need to try this on my own. The only thing is on asus website they talk about renaming the downloaded bios file on their tutorial page as a step to perform, but either way you are great.
@NerdSidekick
@NerdSidekick 17 дней назад
Thanks for your nice comments! For normal BIOS updates (like I show in the video), you do NOT need to rename the file. The only time you have to rename the file is if you can't get into your BIOS and you have to use the ASUS FlashBack feature. For example, if you lost power during a BIOS update, this might happen. In that case, you can plugin a USB flash drive into a special FlashBack port on the motherboard, press a button on the motherboard, and a new BIOS file will be installed. For this to work, the motherboard will look for a file with a specific name. The BIOSRenamer program will take care of renaming the file correctly so the FlashBack feature can work. This page explains how to do this: www.asus.com/us/support/faq/1038568/

Why did you pick a Z790 ASUS motherboard P model? What type of board were you looking for?
@NerdSidekick
@NerdSidekick 17 дней назад
There were a combination of things I was looking for. I was not trying to build an "over the top" computer with the best of everything. This computer was meant to be used in future videos where I can demonstrate a variety of things. So I considered cost. This was a reasonably-priced board. It supported 13th and 14th gen chips from Intel. The problem with those chips had not been realized fully at the time I made the purchase. If I was buying a motherboard now, I might reconsider which CPU I would purchase, which would change the motherboard requirement entirely. But this motherboard has multiple slots for installing multiple NVMe drives, which I tend to use heavily. It supports PCIe 4 and 5 gen devices that I might attach to the motherboard. It uses DDR5 RAM, which is current and fast. All those factors and more were considered when I made the motherboard selection.
@patchreefs
@patchreefs 17 дней назад
THe case you used to install your motherboard in was that a full tower?
@NerdSidekick

Good point. It's not something I normally use when building a computer.
