I see you guys are roughing it ! 1st class no less. Lucky you. I have travelled Nepal 4 times inculding base camp but I'm afraid I could only manage "cattle class". Any way, I love the place and its people. I have travelled the world and Kathmandu is my favourite City. The Himalayas changed my life.
Should have a lot more views!!!! Wonderful stuff. I did it as a 68 yr old in October, 2016 with World Expeditions . Best thing I've ever done. I'm a (still) photographer , and now wish I'd done a video, but your production is wonderful and brings back many memories. The feeling you describe is so real! What an adrenaline rush when you get there! All the best for future journeys!
On your previous EBC trek you walked trough Tengboche twice, which was a mistake as there is a much more impressive high trail on the opposite side of the valley. The Mong La - Phortse - Pangpoche High Scenic Trail offers vastly better views, lots of wildlife and practically no other trekkers. I have walked it 5 times so far since 1998. Your group is of course again going through Tengboche as they all do (do not understand why, lack of imagination and inventiveness mostly), so ask for a private porter and go via Phortse by yourself, meeting your group in Pangpoche or Dingboche at the latest. It is the same 2 days from Namche to Dingpoche either way. You will thank me a thousand times. About water: one Nalgene is enough. Drinking 3-4 liters of water each day has no purpose, drinking a lot has no effect on the acclimatisation process. Drink if thirsty. Google "myths about altitude #4" which originates from The Expert in high altitude medicine doctor Peter Hackett from the altitudemedicine.org . You need only 0.5 to 1 liter more than normal per day to replace the extra water lost during acclimatisation, not 3-6 or whatever crazy numbers are thrown around. When are you starting a trek before sunrise. Never. Only maybe Kala Pattar climb. Of course a headlamp is needed, I am not saying that. Snacks you can get cheaply in Kathmandu, also fresh ones. I hope not everybody in your group is a paramedic bringing enough first aid gear for the whole group just in case... Co-ordinate there. Guides also carry first-aid kits (but can not use them).
So you walked through Tengboche twice, why? There is a much more impressive high trail on the opposite side of the valley going via Mong La - Phortse - Pangpoche offering vastly better views, lots of wildlife and practically no other trekkers. That should be used on the way up, Tengboche visited on the way down.
A friend gave me an audio cassette tape (Into thin air) , John Krakauer. I listened to it driving from Seattle to Central Oregon Coast. Ever since I have been fascinated with Mt. Everest; more exactly what drives people to clime it. Rob Hall, what a story, Green boots. Mallory and Erving, I really appreciate this video and the effort you put into it. It's an essential part of the journey that is too often left out. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe.
Wow. You are way stronger hiker/trekker than me. It took us 14 days. 11 days in, and 3 days out to do Everest Base Camp. We had someone have to be evacuated by helicopter too :( Pulmonary Edema. Anything over 14,000 ft is a gamble. He was the most fit of all of us too (did Ironman competitions and ran marathons).
Good day sir kevin i just want to ask .it is expensive to get a tourist guide with you!? How mich the total package of every hotel arrangement overnight?!! How much it ???the whoke tour package? Thanks
Great video....I am looking to do EBC in Oct 2023. I did Kili last year which I think is about the same as EBC, perhaps a little more tougher as you ascent faster and its mostly tents over tea houses. You should add that to your list
I sure wonder why you were taken up via Tengpoche when there is a much more impressive route high on the other side of the valley. The Mong La - Phortse - Pangpoche High Scenic Trail offers vastly more amazing views across the valley, lots if wildlife and practically no other trekkers. Tengpoche can be visited on the way down.
So true, why go the same trail twice when there is a better alternative available? Nepalese agencies lack imagination and are lazy, just offering the same same over and over.
At the time I went not much was open in the valley march or 2021. There were lots of tea houses that were closed and very few stores. I experienced three days without seeing another trekker so We had discussed a few options and from information from other guides and locals that this was the best route at the time. I am going back in September to go thru the Goyko Lakes route .
@@icu1471 In that case you should consider the "Cultural Gokyo" trek which includes several interesting villages and monasteries also, not only the simple and (too) fast trail up and down to Gokyo. It goes Namche - Tengpoche - Phortse - Thore - Thare - Nha - Gokyo - Renjo La - Thame - Namche. At the moment the Thore - Thare - Nha lodges might be closed due to lack of trekkers, though.
