A friend gave me an audio cassette tape (Into thin air) , John Krakauer. I listened to it driving from Seattle to Central Oregon Coast. Ever since I have been fascinated with Mt. Everest; more exactly what drives people to clime it. Rob Hall, what a story, Green boots. Mallory and Erving, I really appreciate this video and the effort you put into it. It's an essential part of the journey that is too often left out. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe.

Should have a lot more views!!!! Wonderful stuff. I did it as a 68 yr old in October, 2016 with World Expeditions . Best thing I've ever done. I'm a (still) photographer , and now wish I'd done a video, but your production is wonderful and brings back many memories. The feeling you describe is so real! What an adrenaline rush when you get there! All the best for future journeys!

" One of the most scenic places on earth " ,,, well yes indeed, it certainly was at one time ,, now it's one of the biggest shit holes on God's green earth. Obviously you only see what you want to see and that of course is entirely up to you. Hundreds of abandoned tents strewn across the landscape, garbage by the ton, countless discarded oxygen bottles, thousands ( yes I do mean thousands ) of pounds of human excrement. And to make it a good mix let's chuck in about 120 or so dead bodies that have been left behind. An absolute affront to God, to take this wonder of our beautiful earth and turn it into the world's highest garbage dump. By the way, villages and communities at the base of Everest are ( or rather were ) dependent on mountain run off for their water supply. The water is contaminated due to the mountain of human waste ,, but then again that certainly is of no concern to the " guides and adventure companies " it's all about money, nothing more, nothing less !!

Wow. You are way stronger hiker/trekker than me. It took us 14 days. 11 days in, and 3 days out to do Everest Base Camp. We had someone have to be evacuated by helicopter too :( Pulmonary Edema. Anything over 14,000 ft is a gamble. He was the most fit of all of us too (did Ironman competitions and ran marathons).

@@icu1471 did you make it back? What originally brought me to your message board after I watched your video was that in your video you said it was the worse thing I've ever done but also the best... At that moment I wondered if you regretted having to leave and if you wanted more? You said it was never a bucket list item but became an obsession.... I would love to hear the story of how that came to be. Everyone talks about the trip and the sights and the same stuff you talked about but it's hard to find an answer more than it was there. I have a feeling it is much more than that.

If you can afford to Trekk to Everest, you can fly First Class also, nice! Unbelievable progress in those lower towns and amenities. Glad your Trekk went well for you. Saw where the plane ride had a hiccup but your music reminded me of the RU-vid The Flight Channel that deals with airplane crashes, kind of fit the loss of cabin pressure.

Trekking to EBC isn't that expensive. I did it back in 2015 for $1500 US a person. That included food, lodging, porters, and guides. Way cheaper than 1st class from the US to Kathmandu! The permit back then for trekking was only $50 US, nothing compared to the $10,000 climbing permit.

I sure wonder why you were taken up via Tengpoche when there is a much more impressive route high on the other side of the valley. The Mong La - Phortse - Pangpoche High Scenic Trail offers vastly more amazing views across the valley, lots if wildlife and practically no other trekkers. Tengpoche can be visited on the way down.
@karipintakivi9153

So true, why go the same trail twice when there is a better alternative available? Nepalese agencies lack imagination and are lazy, just offering the same same over and over.
@icu1471
@icu1471 2 года назад
At the time I went not much was open in the valley march or 2021. There were lots of tea houses that were closed and very few stores. I experienced three days without seeing another trekker so We had discussed a few options and from information from other guides and locals that this was the best route at the time. I am going back in September to go thru the Goyko Lakes route .

@@icu1471 In that case you should consider the "Cultural Gokyo" trek which includes several interesting villages and monasteries also, not only the simple and (too) fast trail up and down to Gokyo. It goes Namche - Tengpoche - Phortse - Thore - Thare - Nha - Gokyo - Renjo La - Thame - Namche. At the moment the Thore - Thare - Nha lodges might be closed due to lack of trekkers, though.
