dude i love your videos. no bs, just the facts and honest opinions. you give some good pros and cons to make an informed decision. there's a lot of articles and videos out there just saying "you need to buy this car now!" or "it's a deathtrap". not you though, you convey the passion and love for the vehicle for the everyday person to understand. I'm in my late 20's USA and found an imported 1999 MR2 for a good price and your videos have been very informative. I'm going to test drive within the next few days, and I'm very excited! I guess what I'm trying to say is that seeing how much love you have for this car, shines through in your videos and I'm excited to potentially share that MR2 love if I end up buying after the test drive. I'll be sure to come back and give you an update :) keep up the great content my friend!
I have an pre facelift spyder. Lowered on Bc’s, 4.5:1 final drive C60 box with LSD and a 2zz swap with long tube headers and racing cat making little over 200hp. It makes the car unbelievably good!! Going to stroke and port the 2zz this winter.
250k kilometers is only 155k miles. You just broke her in, just not a puppy anymore. I have 165k miles on my Mr2. 500k kilometers or 300k miles is a worn out tired toyota that still runs. Age is our Enemy 😂
Toyotas like gr yaris are overpriced and going by that mr will be too which is ashame as I’d love to own one but can’t justify the price because of what it is maybe if mr2 was priced like gr Yaris is I can justify that but not Yaris gr
@Dutch_Fake_Ferrari the pricing will take these cars out a lot of people's hands but I would prefer Mr2 over gr yairs especially with four cylinder 2.0 that will be a very cool car but like gr yairs people like me will never be able to enjoy it
I bought my SW20 about 4 years ago with 260k miles and it's been my daily since then. Currently I'm rebuilding a 4A-GE to swap into an AW11 with a 2GR on standby when the 5S-FE in my SW20 goes. I fell for these cars so much, as long as fuel is available I can't really see myself driving anything else
It is doable, I got my first MR2 at 20, which was my first car. There is a learning curve when it comes to driving and maintainance/getting parts however if you have some people around that can help it is really doable. Just keep in mind that keeping a car like this on the road will be a bit more expensive in comparison to an old beater or eco car you don’t care about, especially if you make a lot of miles in the car.
@@Dutch_Fake_Ferrari I will, I somehow daily drive it, the next steps are repairing the sills, getting a new paint, and maybe adding a 3s-gte if possible.
De facelift heeft ook andere achterlichten, luchthappers en 16inch velgen achter terwijl er 15inch voor zit! Er past ook een handbagage koffer in de frunk (waar normaal een haakje aan zit om deze wel open te houden) en er zijn speciale op maat gemaakte tassen die in de kleppen achter de stoelen passen, ideaal voor de roadtrips🙌 Met hardtop zien ze er ook nog mooier uit en is er een stuk minder windgeluid te horen. Heel veel mensen vervangen de softtop voor een stoffen kap, maar hier is het windgeluid extreem luid in. Ook inderdaad het subframe checken voor je er een aanschaft, deze zijn best duur om te vervangen😅 Plus de opties voor swappen zijn idd zeker aanwezig! De TTE turbo (Toyota Team Europe) is amazing en niet meer te vergelijken met de 1zz ook. Ook voor tunen is er steeds meer mogelijk in stabiliteit (no snap of oversteer🥹) en overige modificaties, de hype heeft voor en nadelen🤭 Ik heb zelf de 2001 met een 6bak en rebuild waardoor de wegenbelasting wel goedkoper is dan de facelift😏😂 sinds de 6bak wel veel zuiniger ook

Mine ate up tires but then again I drove her like a race car, but mine was reliable everyday, to combat rust buy since bars from a boat shop, the oversteer can be controlled keep the shifted weight of the car in the rear side by maintaining throttle so taking turns is planned different, braking in a high performance maneuver turn is a big mistake, you can find proven intakes from reputable companies, But wow a v6 in a mr2 omfg!!!
Spyder looks good with a kit and headlight conversion however the SW20 will always look better, especially on 18's lowered with Greddy skirts and Ariposta wing!
The soft top ears is a known issue. There is a strap that is either missing, disconnected or broken. Mine need a new snap fastener fitted & now works perfectly. Loads of RU-vid videos out there showing this repair.
I personally prefer the pre facelift cars. I think the headlights look better with the black inlay & they also work very well when updated bulbs fitted. I also think it looks better without the fog lights and I like the non colour coded trims. The face lift is better car if you do lots of motorway trips as the 6th gear makes it’s quieter at high speeds. Pre face lift also gets the cool Sony stereo that I love. The preface lift cars also had 15 inch tires and so apparently have a faster 0 to 60 due to lower diameter tires. With regards to oil burning, from what I have read it’s only the very late cars that the oil burning issues were sorted on as the pistons had 4 oil drain holes instead of 2.
This si the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Toyota doesnt make POWERFUL engines. They make 2 litter 4 cylinders. You are insane if you actually believe Toyota is making a 400 HP mid-engine anything. Thats the same HP as a Cayman GTS. GTFO
I live in Norway, which forces almost all manufacturers, including Lexus, to only sell EVs. I don't care that much, EVs are good, but I'm sad we won't get some cars like the 86/BRZ and so many others
Here in the Netherlands new petrol cars get taxed pretty heavily. Sad to see these enthusiast cars becoming so expensive due to regulations. Is importing from another European country not an option? Hopefully regulation will slow down since Germany is lobbying pretty heavily for e-fuels, those might save the enthusiast cars in Europe.
@@Navoii. Yeah, an EV only future seems stupid to me, EV’s have their benefits in crowded urban areas like the Netherlands but are too unreliable for general use. I see a future of an energy mix when it comes to mobility: lots of EV use in large and/or capital cities. Hydrogen for heavy duty vechicles and long distance driving and E-fuels for high luxury, enthusiast/sports/super cars and/or oldtimer preservation.
@@Dutch_Fake_Ferrari From MG motor UK; "On average, electric car batteries last around 10 years." They've also got much fewer parts that can go wrong, and the three EVs my friends and family has, none has broken down in any major way. Charging is also not a problem with Nio's battery replacement. You may be right with having E fuels for vintage preservation and sports cars, but EV is still much better for luxury, imo. I have the Rolls Royce Spectre in mind.
@@Navoii. I don’t really have good experience with EV haha. A family member owns an ID4 and already had 2 major issues in 3 years. And is quite annoying when it comes to software dependance. Luckily it’s a company car because what scares me the most about EV’s is the battery revision and depreciation. If you look at the older Tesla model S, they sell for a fraction of what their price was when new, and they mostly need an expensive battery revision costing around €10k-€15k. Given that you still need to maintain other parts of the car like brakes, tires and suspension (which wear faster due to vechicle weight) you basically lose a lot of money on these types of cars. I really see EV’s work as small light city cars, that are build to be easy recyclable as Eco cars, but not for a big luxury car that should last several decades. I do got to say that EV drives quite comfartable, which is a plus for luxury.
I initially hated that it will have an I4... But if it has AWD AND can be tuned to 500-600 hp... Sorta like the Emira i4 amg.... But this will actually be reliable... I think this will be a winner if it can stay sub 110k.
I too was not expecting the I4, and the AWD is a surprise on top. On the plus side, it will differentiate itself compared to similar cars like the A110, Lotus, and 718. On the downside it'll automatically set it up for a premium market which might price us out. The blue beta release candidate looks fantastic imo, which is a relief because I thought the concepts have all looked bad. And I'm impressed with the weight especially compare contrasted by BMW's recent products. I wait in anticipation to see what TTE can do with it and maybe they will run it in NBR24
I have a 1991 MR2 2.2 non turbo. 476,000 miles. Cylinder head is off rebuilding the cooling system. Commuted 110 miles a day. Many parts are interchangeable with Celica, and Camry.
Yeah, definitely with the 2.2, I believe it also uses quite a bit of Camry parts. 2.0 is a bit harder but has some parts shared with the 2.0 Celica. Any plans to turbo the 2.2? 👀
Prices in the UK are picking up for the 3rd gen too. I think much like the BMW Z3, they didn't get so much love early on but 15-20 years on, people are appreciatijg them
Yeah, I think the styling of the cars had to grow a bit on us, but right now with all the new cars that are almost computers people are starting to appreciate the driving characteristics.
