I have a 2016 CRZ. I know it gets a lot of grief, but it's really fun to drive. I have a manual so that probably makes a difference. Seems like it was a concept ahead of its time - would be interesting to see what Toyota does with the same set up.
@@2seep I understand but if you're a fan of a car then you're a fan. A fan of a Porsche 911 turbo s isn't going to buy a Corvette c8 because it's cheaper. Lol
I think mr2 would be a mild hybrid at under 25k but with less than 150 hp. They are calibrating with one of their subsidiaries to make it. If there is a Celica and it would be a hybrid and it will take the place of the current gr86 and I think they will make the supera a hybrid if there is one.
I would prefer this proposal, because if Mazda and Toyota are developing the RX-9 together, then there would be no barrier between the Skyactiv-G and the Supra.
I agree with your very good analysis but always keep in mind when trying to figure out automaker's plans _MOST_ car makers' marketing and product management groups don't apply logic or common sense - they follow what people's buying habits are and do things based on regulatory pressure - all of that said if there's a car maker out there that tends to do things logically TOYOTA is near the top of the list.
YES..!!! I owned a new 1986 MR2 decades ago ...What I would like to see --Low cost $25 to 30k , light weight (under 2800lbs), standard rear LSD, ...>>>7spd auto , 17 in wheels, analog look digital gauges , fabric seats, ample room interior, ample trunk space... removable sunroof, basic, purposeful, raspy exhaust
Wow that is so not even a lkittle interwsting adn has nothing to do with this video, this isn't about 35 year old designs or what you supposedly owned no one care
Really blown away by your insights and meticulous speculation. Best coverage I've seen on this so far and I've seen a lot haha. Subbed. Btw, for months I was hoping they'd just rotate the GR Yaris 180 degrees, with the double wishbone at front, shortening the chassis rails and making unistructure to suit ... shift firewall a bit closer to centre. Same 3 cyl turbo, CFRP & aluminium panels... RWD midship, it would decimate all and require not too much retooling... Just imagine the hype it would be civic type R level or skyline GTR34 level... Sigh 😞
Love the idea! Unfortunately with emissions getting more strict these kind of cars will get really expensive. But yeah, dreams are free haha, let's hope Toyota makes a great mk4 MR2!
I cannot believe that they are going to make a modern car with LESS HP than the 3rd gen! It's so frustrating that they don't just use the GR 3 cylinder. I'd love that Corolla GR engine in my 3rd gen!
I think it is a probably a compromise to keep cost down. Let's hope there will be a GR version with more power for the hardcore MR2 enthusiasts out there!
I like that concept drawing and plans. The yellow one with the Tron looking headlights had me worried but it is just a concept after all. Looks kinda like an Aventador from the front lmao The electro-wankel Mazda is sounding like a BMW i8 as well
@@-jimmyjames Swifts are good! In this class of cars weight is everything. My mother has a Toyota Aygo and I can have quite some fun with that car haha.
I truly hope that they bring the NEW Mr 2 spyder to the United States so i can buy one , and not only that if the companies involved in building this gorgeous Mr2 NEW version they will make millions in selling the car here , that body is the reason i will buy it for sure ...
I think it's likely the new MR2 comes to the USA, the MR2 is way more popular over there compared to Europe. They can probably sell a lot of these cars by going to the US market.
@@Dutch_Fake_Ferrari I totally agree with your text I know many people here that want to buy the new Mr2 spyder I can’t wait to see one in person what a great car it the second generation mr2 is very attractive I owned one, I definitely want to own a new mr2 that is coming how much is the new one.
@@miltonrivero1017 A lot of this video is leaks combined with speculation. I have not been able to find something on price but if I had to guess I think ik between the price of a new Suzuki Swift Sport and Toyota GR86 could be a good guess.
It’s exciting when these classics come back new and improved. But dealerships do a good job taking the excitement away marking these cars up excessively. Sick of it.
Yeah I know the pain! In the US it is dealers, here in the Netherlands it is the government. You pay 70k for a GR86 here 😂. I guess all we can do is work and save money like crazy or hope that the cars hit the used market for a decent price.
For maintenance, Porsche is one of the brands with low maintenance (including cost itself), although the selling price of a new Porsche car is very expensive.
So sick of a hearing about electric cars there's no excitement with electric cars nothing. Don't care how quick they are. Now I understand why and it's unfortunate but the head of Toyota stepped down!
I am not sure how their partnership looks like at the moment but I believe Toyota currently only supplies the 2GR-FE engines to Lotus. I am not a 100% up to date with news relating to Lotus but they are going full electric in the near future. Chinese investors have injected a lot of money in Lotus and it looks like they are going to be phasing the 2GR-FE out in favor for an AMG 4 cilinder. For an electric MR2, working with Lotus could work out. However, like I said in the video, Toyota is working with Mazda on an electric sports platform so would another electric sportscar fit in the range? Probably not. Basing an MR2 on either the Lotus Emira or Evora would also not make sense. Both these platforms and the 2GR-FE engines are almost 20 years old. Using these platforms for a 2025 Mr2 will probably not work out because you will get an expensive car that will not meet modern standards.
How can anyone be interested in a 1.0L 'sports' car?? Better if it was pure EV even though I don't like EVs in general. But, a tiny engine does not a sports car make regardless how it looks. Sorry.
I guess it has to be your taste. A lot of people will prefer a smaller engine because it has lower costs both in buying the car and running it. Here in Europe there is a big offering in hot hatches and small sports cars with such small engines, in this segment driving dynamics is king and I think Toyota can pull it off. A small ICE engine will always be a more interesting experience then electric in my opinion. Will it beat a Supra in a drag race? Off course not, but if you want that experience, why not save up the extra bit for a Supra?
Hello Dutch_Fake_Ferrari , I use to own a Mr-2 Spyder 2004 it was a great car handles well everywhere i went people would get out of there cars at a traffic light and take pictures , i loved my mr-2 spyder , as for the new mr-2 the body is beautiful i truly wish that toyota and any other company works with toyota to build it bring it to the US so i can buy one i also loved the sequential manual was excellent !!!!!!!!!!! if somebody would sell to me the 2nd generation mr-2 spyder i would buy it and it has to be sequential manual.....
@@sigmamale4147 Yeah, I can feel that one, I personally have some experience with them and they can be fun, but it really depends on what type of roads are available and if the car is light enough.
A lot of speculation indeed, take it with a grain of salt. But the Toyota, Suzuki, Daihatsu collaboration on the Indian and African market is a fact. So these three companies making a small sports car together would not be too crazy of an idea. Bestcarweb has been reliable with leaks from Japan so there might be some relevant information there. Off-course nothing is confirmed until it is officially announced by Toyota.
