she put so much heart into those first 30 or so seconds. no one makes it come to life like her. the tone changes, timing, and vibrato are just perfect. they tell a story of emotions. with most interpretations i feel dynamic markings and tempo suggestions.
Try this experiment , If you listen to just the first forty seconds or so of Sheku Kennet-Mason for example playing the same piece you will know that Jacqueline du Pre had such magic I feel unhappy that even with all the hard work put in to attain his high standard it still didn't cut it and falls short by comparison (I chose his playing as he was so praised after his performance of the work at the BBC Proms 2019) . But he is one of many contenders some get almost within reach. God bless all for bravely taking on the challenge. But it is her version of the Elgar Cello Concerto we prize above all thus far.
Edward Elgar's cello concerto, Op 85, always makes me weep. Now I understand from reading the write-up about the concerto's debut, and the time period in which it was written. Jacqueline du Pre has always been my favorite cellist. I had just arrived at the parking lot of a grocery store on a black, rainy night. Turning off the car engine, rain pouring down the windows, I was in a kind of womb in the car and Jacqueline du Pre played this piece. I sat motionless for 1/2 an hour transfixed, didn't move a muscle, only marveled and was in ecstasy at what I was hearing.
Por qué gente como ésta se enferma y muere y malditos dictadores que tanto daño hicieron siguieron vivos? Esta mujer, ella y su instrumento eran uno solo, una absoluta maravilla genial e irrepetible
from minute 12 to 12:30, the camera angle is watching over her shoulder. You can't see her right arm moving at all, but the notes keep coming fast and cleanly. Finally a view from the front, and you can see it is all coming from the fingers of her right hand, not even from the wrist, just her fingers. beautiful, amazing.
I dunno this reminds me of LOOKING through a HISTORY book at first & I guess the rest of it too? BELIEVING IN THE TAO we are still to caught up in Knowledge and the Struggles to Know Yet when you let go of Knowledge you can not only be yourself You** can know Or quote If YOU do nothing YOU do everything We make to many LINES in life which can be CONFUSING and Create extra Fear of Life Taoism
