On smallthoughts you'll find a lot of videos related to casual sandbox games as well as the occasional homebrew video. It's a wide range from Minecraft to city builders, Nintendo games and much more. Our focus lies within game design and understanding why some games, versions or game mechanics work better than others.
We're always open to video suggestions and criticism, so feel free to share any thoughts you have, no matter how small ;)
Which one do you recommend buying on PC: legends deluxe, dungeons deluxe or minecraft bedrock + java? The guy who want the new game plays the basic one
Those are all very different experiences and depend on what you're looking for. I found Dungeons a great game if you like co-op adventures every once in a while. And Minecraft, well ... it’s Minecraft. If you never tried it, definitely worth it. Legends however, is abandoned and can be quite boring. It’s fun if you can make it fun, but I don't recommend it.
So few people were interested in legends and as literally everyone predicted, what popularity it had wouldn’t last, because it had 0 replayability. Nobody was interested in the PvP, and the campaign could be completed in less than 3 hours if that. The exploration wasn’t interesting at all, either, as the only “rewards” you got in any situation were extra mobs - most of them pertaining to movement which matters so little they may as well be relegated to a cosmetic role. Oh and the gameplay and progression was repetitive and pointless.
This goes to show that repetitive multiplayer can‘t keep a game alive on it‘s own. It would‘ve been so easy for Mojang and BBI to add a ton of content to both single- and multiplayer here. Now the modding community has to do it.
Can you make a short update on how the game is now almost 2 years later? The next update would release 2 days from now by the time I comment this. I'm curious to see whether the game got better or worse, since for my phone a lot of the bugs and sluggishness was fixed after the recent updates.
I played on the hardest difficulty. I installed the game at 6am on Saturday the week or week after it came out and completed it by 9pm because I tried to take my time and explore every single thing on the map. I did like the game. I had a lot of fun with it and it was super satisfying to complete it. But after that? Pfff haven’t touched it since
My opinion on this game since the beginning hasn't change and it never will. Minecraft legends: the game with 7 copies sold, and 3 active players. It never looked interesting or compelling
I can tell you, it's just Minecraft on the 3DS. The problem is that it's on the 3DS. It's a waste of money and isn't very comfortable to play. If you want to play Minecraft on the go, just buy it for 7 bucks off the app store lmao. Who even was this version tailored for anyways? It feels like an unnecessary version to release. I guess for those who wanted to play the Mario world but didn't have a Wii U because that system didn't sell nearly as much as the 3DS? Again, it feels really unnecessary. I guess it just... shows the power of the New 3DS or something. Even then they had to limit so much on it because it's still on a 3DS, regardless of it being a "new" system or not. Couldn't even be on the same level as the PSVita. Minecraft 3DS isn't bad. It's just a version that we did not need, nor want. If you were to look past the limitations, yeah, it's just Minecraft. But comparing it to the other versions of Minecraft? It's pretty bad.
My problem with Minecraft spin offs is.. they are not Minecraft, like, look at dungeons, it has a lot of interesting enemies and weapons and stuff that could perfectly be added in Minecraft, but they dont, just to name a few, the redstone golem, the skeleton variety, the magic staffs, a lot of that could be perfectly added instead of the shitshow that is the mob vote and actually make the update look like and update and not just a time maker for the next update, the same with legends, instead of a whole new game it could have been a special game mode, I know it because modders ACTUALLY DID IT YEARS AGO, is has simple as making a mode with island like seeds and make the nether portals spawn around, still minecraft but new and interesting
you should try the PSvita edition. its a bit like the 3ds edition in terms of the world limitations altho not as bad, but its much closer to the likes of the ps3 and xbox360 edition, it also goes up to 1.13 but the world gen makes it realy hard to find all of the structures on the same world.
