I'm a new and proud owner of a fluval fx6 as of today but I have a question... cam you advise me on how to set the pipes up? Like going from filter to tank... does it need to have a drop/droop shortly after leaving the filter? Or does it need to be as vertical as possible going up to the tank? If that makes sense
@dougwolfedrums so in and out pipe... Should I go straight from filter and up to the tank? Keep the pipes as tight as possible? Or should I leave a little slack? If tes on slack, then does slack need to be right after the filter? And should the slack/droop touch the floor? Or just give it a little drop? Thankyou, and sorry for the constant questions.. Judt only have one pipe and don't want to mess it up haha
Wow. Sorry you lost your precious fish. Thanks for sharing. I moved from strips to API Master kit because of errors with test strips. Now I am concerned about my API kit.
Renting a sander would be so much easier and new products are stronger and cure quickly without smell. You have creative idea, but doesn't add beauty and value to house. Sad to say it's a lot of work to paint, when sanding path would have been easier and a much BETTER investment.
I did that the first time I refinished the floors 13 years ago. Dogs/kids destroyed them. Plus I grew up working in my dads body shop sanding cars. I despise sanding lol. Thanks for watching
I’m doing this now! So convenient being able to do sections and not completely remove everything. Plus we can still live here. If we sanded it we would have had to move out for the week. Thanks for the video!
@@chris-tq5ly That's just not true anymore. You can do sections with sanding. New water based products like Bona are stronger than old oil products. Cure in three days with no smell. Never have to move out. Sounds like someone misled you, or you don't have current information.
@@dougwolfedrums Sounds like sad story, but the technology has improved a LOT in recent years. New products are easier to use, and cure stronger and quickly. Much, much better than paint. Think you need to learn about all the new professional floor products. It's a mistake to choose paint instead which won't last as long, won't look better, or won't add value to home.
Can you give me a recipe for doing this in the opposite direction? I would like to darken my floors. I want a chocolate brown color. Do you think it will work?
Start with Brown- Add a small amount of black paint to the brown to darken it. Start with something like 4 cups brown and 1/2 cup of black. Add a touch of red paint to give the brown a warmer, chocolatey tone. Yellow can also adjust the shade. Adjust with black or white as needed. But certainly add water to thin the paint otherwise you’ll potentially cover the wood grain more than intended. Also 1-2 cups of plaster of Paris
I’d seal them but can’t say for sure. The same process would work but if I had bare wood to start I probably would have just polyurethaned them. This was just a solution to keep me from having to sand.
I know I’m sorry I just realized I didn’t ever put them in the description. So the first base coat was just some sort of tan. Doesn’t really matter. The gray was I think called slate gray or porch gray. It’s just just the stock gray porch paint from Behr. The white was Eider White which is a Sherwin Williams color but HD still mixed it for me. Hope this helps!
Thank you for sharing your experience. There’s so little information available on this kind of torsion. My 2 yr old GS just passed from this as well. It’s devastating and I am so sorry for your loss as well.
It’s a great idea to change hose to smooth inner surface as this increases flow and decreases sediment gather in them. Also, with connecting hose to FX6, the inlet/outlet has a groove that an Oring placed there will make leaks improbable.
So the pond hose connection at the quick connects did not leak? While it fits, it was not as tight as using the original Fluval hoses with the white rubber cap at the end. It kind of went on the connection looser than anticipated. Leak tested and I had a very small drip. Wasn't until I got some O-rings at Lowes and installed it at the tip of the connector that the area was fully sealed.
Was the 2nd coat of grey because you wanted to build up the primer or because you wanted some depth of colour under the whitewash? Or, if you had white porch paint lying around, you would have used that as your 2nd coat of primer...? And always with plaster of Paris in the primer coats, yes?
The gray with the whitewash gave me closer to the look I was going for than the tan with whitewash. I would definitely do two coats, but the color is just a style preference really.
I found that I had to wash the Quickrete over 10 times and it was still a little cloudy. Black Diamond Sand from TSC cost the same and came clear in just 3 washed. Obviously that's black, not white, but good to know. I was so hoping paying a little more for HTH would save me some time... I guess not.
Yea I’ve since switched to mostly a version of cichlid sand because most of them wash out easier and keeps my ph balanced. I do have a tank or two with the black sand from TS and I like that as well.
Is the krylon fusion you used the one that says all in one paint primer last time I had bought it it looked a lot different and didn't say paint and primer on it.
The can designs have changed but it still says fusion on it. You can’t get it at Home Depot but Lowe’s or Walmart has it. You might have had Krylon Colormax
I assume bc if you place the output (convert it to a single instead of dual) at the surface level is moves enough water and keeps it agitated to the point you don’t need a skimmer
Hello thanks for the video.. is that tubing you got flexible? I love how flexible the FX tubing is. I have some regular tubing on one of my fx6s and it's not flexible and also kinks. The replacement hose for the FX is crazy priced imo Also what is that one barb called the one you put in the tank and slipped the rubber piece over? I think I have to make my clamp thing bigger cause it will have to go over a piece of wood from my canopy
It’s flexible but not as much as the factory tubing. Better than most though. They do have some clear very pliable tubing you can get sort of like on a python system. Heating the tubing and getting it placed how you want also works. The fitting is MPT x 1 1/8” HB straight adapter. Or a FPT depending on what type of 90 you use (a matter of female or male threads)
3:22 has klein driver out for diy. winning. i had the same problem w fx4 setup on 75. know it's older but thanks for the video. i haven't made any mods yet but am considering. i love the performance of the filter
I’ve used both and they do work but started a mini cycle of sorts when the alcohol broke down and caused a little bacteria bloom so the water was cloudy for a week or so afterwards. I found the pantyhose method just researching online after the cloudy water from the alcohol
Hit or Miss seems to be the case , fishy though but I have been fooled before too. Nothing was making sense so I got a SERA just like you. Testing , check 1. 2. Got to look out for the hobbyist and for that I had to say Thank You 🎄🎉♥️🤍💙🍒🦐🍀
I can’t believe I just found your videos I completely understand everything you are saying and I was right there going through just about the same thing but different and the worst part was in the end absolutely no body would help no one I’ve never felt so alone. But Bear also passed in our arms right where he wanted to be, can’t tell you how it’d be too long. 150 lbs old straight back GSD 11.5 yrs old, conventional medicine had greatly let us down and my two boys but they both showed us there’s a whole new world out there of holistic and integrative medicine which has allowed us to heal and adopt our two new GSD rescues. There’s something special about this breed and he went the way he wanted to. And yes only GSD owners understand they have an extremely high pain tolerance, you wouldn’t even know unless you’ve been there. This time around I feel a duty to go as natural as possible with these two young ones I only wish I could have known but had it not been for them I’d be none the wiser, and not just for the dogs I was actually able to save my husbands gall bladder naturally let alone the complications they done tell you about because it’s so normalized to take it out and no one has problems right!!
Durable meaning not easily damaged, I never said anything about longevity. Any hardwood floor will eventually take a beating with dogs/kids. But I have tested it trying to scratch it and dropped tools on it etc and it’s not been an issue. Dirt and liquid spills wipe right off. I did put 3 coats of poly on so I’m sure that helps. Thanks for watching
@@dougwolfedrumsso what if I just wanted to put grey paint on my floor? Would I have to do all the steps in the video? Or just sweep, clean the floors then paint?
@@oyahzi you’d still have to add plaster of Paris to the grey to get it to adhere to the floor. 2-3 coats of grey. Then 3 coats minimum of water based poly. They sell that in almost no sheen to glossy
Pretty informative for my purposes; thanks for posting. It saves me a lot of of time to have to do my own comparisons, which is the most valuable thing to me. The only thing is how the colors come out on film, which is a function of too many things to list. They do not seem all too different, when wet. But that is a small check compared to having to start from zero. Thanks!
Thanks for your video! I was lucky enough to find a supplier for frozen cow pancreas. Unfortunately, my dog Sofya (GS x St. Bernard) doesn't like it. So I continue giving her this very expensive enzyme powder (zymosan). Still 6,5 kilos of pancreas in the freezer.....
How exactly would you use the beef liver? And how much a day/ per meal? The medicine is super expensive i want to try that out if you had good results it aounds like... thank you so much, if you could break it down to me what to do i would definitely try it
Smaller meals more times a day is best. So instead of once a day I would feed 2-3. Use beef pancreas not liver. Cut the fat off and chop it up in a food processor. You don’t want to chop up more than a quart at a time because it will go bad before you use it all. So I’d say anywhere from 2-4 pancreas at once and freeze any extra you have. Keep the blended stuff in the fridge. And when you feed you just throw a few tablespoons on and mix the food up. Enough so that it’s touching all the food. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I find it rather piculiar that Fluval would provide a lesser quality hang-on bracket for the FX series filter than that of the 07 series filters... Aside from the importance of having a impeller included with the filter, this is probably théééé most important item in the package. For those who have had a hose slip out of the aquarium, you know what I'm talking about!!
