I agree, we had one without knowing he was one and I was thinking how special this cat was compared with other cats I have had. I always said he is like our fourth dog. There are many similarities in behavior to yours. Everyone here loves this tomcat to bits. He even cuddles with the dogs and waits for me to come in the evening. If I am at home, he is where I am or very near...
We rescued 2 kittens who were found in the wall of an abandoned house across the country from us. We drove 20 hrs to pick up these little things that were under 2lbs and covered in fleas. We thought they were Hemingway cats. We were wrong lol. They're 5mos old now and little boy is 9lbs and little girl is 7. Our boy has the biggest ribcage I've ever seen on a cat. We have 2 17yr old Norwegian forest cats and little boy is the size of our older female. They'll jump in the shower with you, carry toys around, chirp and trill instead of meow, and wag their tails when happy, like a dog lol
I had a male maine coon who lived to three months short of his 16th birthday. However he was shy and quite timid but also very loyal and very well behaved. Hecwas also on the small side for a male. Sadly I lost him to a cancerous lesion on his heart. I now have a female main coon kitten but she is going to be an exceptionally large girl. She is very calm ,outgoing, friendly and very affectionate. She loves my lap. I hope she lives a long life. I had that belief that girls are less affectionate but since getting her she is quite the opposite.
I have an issue with my Maine coon, she loves me and it’s super sweet, but she hates people and she’s a demon at the vet, is there someway to change this? 🥲
Feliway will do the trick. It’s an amazing product. It’s a diffuser which contains cat pheromones, plug it in and it heats up gently and the pheromones disperse throughout your home. It’s very calming.
I inherited my sons Maine Coon when he passed away last month. Benjamin is affectionate male 14 years old. He has adjusted very well in a short period of a month. He purrs alot and appears happy! I'm wondering what kind of trauma Benj experienced when my son passed and wasn't found till 5 days later? Benj had no food and little water those 5 days. How do I know if he misses his one and only owner my son?
It sounds as tho he has adjusted well. He , Would imagine was around you while he lived with your son, so that would help. He probably does remember your son, but has excepted living with you.
Pips hips look a little wonky in this vid when he walks. I used to own a MC and I've heard about it, though my smoky tabby-coon never seemed to have hip issues when he was alive.
Thank you for this! Unfortunately many are using the "inflation" excuse here to jack up prices even higher than before. My last shelter adopted cat is 15 lbs and 13% MaineCoon so he needs a friend to play with that's his size. One of the breeders I found the perfect match at wants up to 10K for some of their MaineCoons, it's insane. The one I want, she wants over 4K. Not TICA, No health guarantee, no cardio testing, just basic vaccines. Profit over love for the breed. Look up Windy Hill Pets in Ohio...
My best friend Rascal was a Main Coon, when a tiny kitten ,she actually taught me how to play fetch. She was 36 lbs of Joy. I was Blessed with Rascal for 14 years, not long enough. I miss her dearly everyday. Love You Rascal. 🌹😽🌹
Proud mama to three pure breed Maine boys. And this video is exactly them. I get my hair colored a lot because fashion lol but these boys can smell my clean hair and immediately come to me to scent mark my hair. It’s ok if I trimmed their grinch feets but sometimes I forget until I start feeling the nails. So much love to your fur babies!
I have a 15-year-old male Pedigree Maine Coon Cat that I bought in 2009 for $600.00. His name is Sir Prince Charming because he can turn on the Charm and get his staff of two caretakers to do anything he wants. He loves to spend most of his time outdoors and the only time he ever used a litter box was when the temperature outside was below zero. He eats the same food, Hills Science Diet 11+ every day and never tires of it. He is never a bother to take care of as he is just about the perfect pet in every way. 😽🥰😼
I have a maincoon and a calico mix, and my cat is terrified of everyone and bullies my mom, cause she feeds him, and idk what to do to get him to be more calm, unless we just got unlucky
I have never had or known much about main coons until a tiny white and grey little princess ran into my backyard and right into my arms. She's beautiful and loving and cuddly and now that she's 12 weeks she's also full of kitten energy :) I am in love with her so much. Aloof is not a part of this kittens vocabulary, she's all about her people. I am excited to see what she grows into.
Excalibur Croatian Blue was the official name of my family's Chartreaux tom. My best buddy ever. To say he was a family member would almost be an understatement. He passed away last November. We are now coming to a point where we are at least considering homing a new kitty. No more Chartreaux for me. For the simple reason I can't trust myself that I wouldn't be comparing and measuring it up against my dear departed Excalibur. Neo, we called him unofficially. I'm thinking about a Maine Coon. I believe there are similarities in character, as Chartreaux are feral (re-domesticated). For example cats of both breeds tend to pick one person in the family as their master (a servant, actually). Both are very sociable, gentle, cuddly, not loud. Both are great hunters. But the Chartreaux are not exactly keen on fighting (a trait from when they were feral). Can anyone please help me with more info on Main Coons, their character, grooming and health needs etc? I need to keep in mind that I am 65+ and my wife is younger 😅.
I think we had a tuxedo Maine coon mix. Due to his personality I think he was one at least partially. He wasn't big but he lived to 20 and was affectionate like your cat and purred constantly. He was black with a white bib. If it wasn't for modern vet bills I'd get another one.
I had a mixed Maine coin stray and he was the best. He preferred my wife as his person, but was still affectionate to me, my step daughter and the other pets. I was devastated when he got ran over. Miss you Ani
