Judy is so wonderful here. This is the real Judy, kind, charming, funny and with it. I have never heard of a fund for the kids or Liza understudying Barbra? Wishful thinking as the IRS took anything they could find. 😢

The wonderful life of Natalie Wood experienced to rise to her dream. All her life her mother has been on her side to support her career. marry the man she loves and quite a good-looking man as well. and have children without health issues. she's surrounded by a good-looking man calling the best man on her side. she's very lucky.

Predatory older man has burst of conscience and passes on taking advantage of a much younger girl. For the first time. HOW SWEET! Hollywood's wet dreams are truly sickening, folks.

Judy’s children said she loved life and had many happy times. She would never want people to feel sorry for her. Judy was biologically and mentally predisposed to addiction. Many stars, directors, composers… were prescribed uppers and downers and didn’t become addicted. Yes, her childhood was less than ideal, but if little Frances Gum never became Judy Garland…

Marjorie Morningstar (1958) 6.2 At 18, Marjorie Morgenstern is the proverbial New York Jewish-American princess on the cusp of womanhood. While she has in the back of her mind that she would like to become a stage actress, she is less certain about her personal future. While she has burgeoning sexual feelings for her boyfriend Sandy Lamm, a nice Jewish boy whom she is expected to marry eventually, she isn't sure if she truly loves him. She wants some time away to discover whether she should accept his marriage proposal; in doing so, she meets several wannabe-suitors who will enter, leave, and re-enter her life during her young-adulthood. The one she believes that she is truly in love with is Noel Airman, 14 years her senior, who is social director of South Wind, a summer resort in the Catskills, when they first meet. Much like Marjorie's chosen life path is against the tradition envisioned by her opinionated mother, Rose Morgenstern, who hopes that acting is just a phase and Marjorie will settle into the life of a homemaker and mother, Noel has taken a similarly-unconventional life path, bucking an envisioned professional life for one in the arts; he is adored as a genius by those at South Winds as he is writing a Broadway play. What those at South Winds do not see is Noel's time away from South Winds; he has a tendency to not finish what he starts, which might be one reason he never sees himself getting married. What Rose might find more egregious about Noel as Marjorie's potential husband is the fact that he turned his back on his Jewish heritage. As Noel contemplates settling into a more-conventional life with Marjorie, can the love they think they have for each other overcome these obstacles?

Gene was 28 years older than the 18 year old Natalie compared to the eight year differences Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze. Jennifer was 27 playing a teen. Can I say ewww about the ages of this film’s leads.

What I thought was so original a story of Dirty Dancing and then this movie has very innocent Jewish girl goes to camp and finds seasoned entertainer in total black attire wishing his bigger dreams. Jennifer Grey and Patrick were Natalie and Gene. Nothing is new in this story line.

I like Gene Kelly, but he was a terrible choice to play Noel Airman. He wasn't even the right physical type. Natalie Wood looked like how I imagined Marjorie looked. Still, overall this movie was disappointing. My expectations were high because I loved Herman Wouk's novel "Marjorie Morningstar" so much.

A charismatic love for impressionable girls is like measles or chicken pox: the pain of disillusionmnt goes away superficially, but the virus lurks in the body's recesses and comes back in older years, like shingles. And there is no inoculation unless you are cool and self possessed to begin with so you can resist. How many of us had a Noel Airman in our pasts, exploiting vulnerability to inflate their faltering egos....now more men are hiding within for fear they'll get crushed too. Love...such a beguiling mystery...an art it takes years and a good teacher to master. Never saw Kelly in the role of selfish, weak, alcoholic cad...didn't suit him. Too much of a good guy.

I remember in the 50’s going to aunt rose and uncle Harry’s apartment in manhattan. The elevator man would take us to their floor and there were tables, and sofas and chairs in the halls. And plants. I always wondered if someone lived on the floor at night, maybe the elevator man.

Years ago I went on a Herman Wouk reading spree after reading The Winds of War and War and Remembrance. Wouk was a great American author and WWII veteran. I also loved the books The Caine Mutiny, and of course Marjorie Morningstar. I was delighted to learn there was a Marjorie Morningstar movie... and that it starred the great, beautiful Natalie Wood! It's been one of my favorite comfort movies ever since. Thanks for sharing it. Also, if you enjoy novels, I highly recommend reading the book!

Herman Wouk should have received the Presidential Medal of Freedom before he passed away. Not only did he serve in the Navy during WWII, but also he wrote several books set during the war. To me the most memorable were The Winds of War, and its sequel War and Remembrance. The Caine Mutiny was also an excellent book. Wouk had a special talent for drawing you into his stories and settings.

First saw it 65 years ago and loved it. Still do. Love another of her movies also, "The Searchers" with John Wayne. Was very blessed to meet her on my birthday, September 27, 1981 at Whompoppers Restaurant in Universal Studios where I worked as a cocktail waitress. She was there celebrating her daughter Natasha's birthday. She was very kind to me and wished me Happy Birthday. It was devastating to hear of her death two months later and even more so to hear how she died. It may never be known what really happened on that yacht to cause her to suffer such a horrific death but if it was not an accident, I hope those involved have had no peace in their lives.

So-called "Cornel Wilde" wasn't even his real name. He was born Kornel Lajos Weisz. What possible reason did he have for changing his birth name?! Hopefully it was not shame of heritage, perceived greater recognition or at the behest of deceitful & mercenary 'Hollywood' studios or moguls?!

This would have been a great movie if Gene Kelly wasn't in it. With the Jewish family and values in it they still couldn't keep that ham from trying to steal the scenes he was in. He was 46 years OLD claiming to be 33...Ha! And every move he makes is orchestrated. Must have killed him not to have a self choreographed song and dance number every 5 minutes. How did he get top billing? And let's not forget when wearing a hat it must be tilted to the right. Natalie was a great actress. She had to be to kiss him and not lose lunch. I wonder if people get the feeling I don't like Gene Kelly? Stephen Boyd would have been great for Genes part. Other than that it was a good coming of age vehicle for Natalie. Everyone else minus the above mentioned did a fine job.

Her parenting skills left something to be desired…but then again not surprising given the dysfunctional and abusive family she grew up in.
