I HAVE NO WORD! THIS IS POOR CLEAN DISASTER. This horrondous riding is used as an exemplary role model for good riding. Lifted overbended neck, mouthstress, behind the vertical- and all the things that is criticized in the name of the future horsewelfare. WHO has paid for this video? Sue Dyson, do you know ANYTHING about proper riding?? SORRY. This is a DISASTER for the future of the horses. When the ''speartips'' in the horseworld is complimenting this, everybody takes it in.
A disneyfied, sappy documentary of extreme gaslighting. Focus is narcissistically on the human as a hero after victimization after an accident. While in actuality, the 'special bond and relationship' we see is one, long-ass accident perpetrated against the horse repeatedly with abusive riding and abusive equipment. This is such a typically nauseating angle from the self-aggrandizing equestrian cult.
All I can do is cry when I watch ANYTHING about therapeutic riding programs. I would love to get involved but I think I’d just cry the whole time. Such a beautiful connection between children and horses.
But constant videos showing the Highest Ranking in Olympics, And the FEA is not doing anything about eventers who abuse horses even when their is proof. Too much money, power, egos, at the expense of the horses. Both in Dressage, Hunter, Jumpers. Barrel racers, Also they need to use less bits , whips if they are so good and horse enjoys it then use bitless bridles just skeptical if this video is just a fluff piece to calm casual horse people.
If horses "loved their jobs", we wouldn't need bits and flash nosebands and spurs and whips to get them to do the job. Many horses in this video are tense and stressed. That's not good horsemanship and partnership in my opinion. We need to be aware of the learning history behind horses performing certain behaviors.
We don’t NEED bits and nosebands and spurs and whips to get horses do their jobs. Some just use them in ignorance and “tradition”. The problem is the job some humans think horses need to do at “elite” levels. Sad indeed.

It’s a very romantic and beautiful presentation but I don’t understand we all know this but Then dispite this we see very seldom The harmonie between rider and horse that is talked about here - The ambition takes over and people abuse these fantastic animals to succed in competition - I still don’t understand why The highest level of dressage or jumping is not performed without bridle and headstall totally Free and in liberty - that should be the goal 😊

Thank you for this video. It comes at a time when Im discovering the reason for long time lameness in a horse I have owned 11 years and always knew something was wrong. We did injections and chiropratic appts and message appts and Magnawave sessions which would help for a short while. He is so stoic and doesnt show any agressiveness in response to pain. He just tries to work through it. As in this video he is so much happier riding in the pasture instead of an arena, which is what we will be doing. I will love him until I lay him down.

horses are not built to jump over and over, it destroys there bodies. They are built for speed and they can jump if they have to but they are not built to jump like this.
you people create the pain with your terrible English riding style. all in the mouth and pulling the fact back way too far.. IMHO this is the worst style of ridding ever created.
Shows once again that a horse is not a piece of sports equipment! No matter how bred the animals are, they are not born to be ridden. And if they are, then with lots of care, love and gentleness or not at all!
This was uncomfortable to watch as there are some really conflicting messages: At timestamp 19:47 they use a twitch on the horse. So while they explore 'new & innovative procedures they resort to the dark ages of an equine restraint invented in the 1700s. A twitch can be abusive if it's used tighter than necessary & for longer than 5 mins. Why not try acupoint HT 7 or Bai Hui : 100 Points Meeting point before the procedure to calm the horse instead? Activation of acupoints stimulates the release of opioids, a group of compounds that act on opioid receptors in nerves, the spinal cord, and the brain. The nerve blocking stage was also uncomfortable to watch. Galena is showing signs of obvious distress (her constant chewing and muzzle quivering) while the human "team" around her ignore her distress and continue with the invasive experiment/ procedure. Why does Lauren sit and watch from the sidelines instead of comforting her horse?? Was she told by the medical team to do that? *There is a disconnect - the emotional state of the horse seems secondary to the actual medical procedure.* The part where the horse whelps in pain as they administer another nerve block in her fetlock region left me unconvinced- especially as the team appear more concerned about each other than the horse. How telling. There are other, equally effective and most importantly, *non invasive procedures* that have amazingly effective benefits for lame horses: Acupressure, acupuncture & red light therapy. Most caring and empathic humans with equine companions would opt for non invasive procedures. If you are really intent on shifting the paradigm of lameness in horses, surely it would be far more conducive to consider the well being of the horse and stop using a restraint that belongs in the 1700s. Perhaps consider incorporating modalities such as acupressure, acupuncture &/or meridian work instead as they are far more beneficial for the horse.

A horse will do so much to please its rider and we need to become more adept at reading our horses behavior. You can’t blame yourself because you were going off what your vet was suggesting and horses are a prey animal so they are very stoic and don’t show pain as a survival instinct. That being said, if you feel your horse is in pain then don’t waste time and keep speaking for your horse until someone listens. Thank you Susan for working with Galina to help her.
I’m interested if you are as disappointed in this years equine performances as I was. I saw riders riding behind the vertical, blue tongue and hyperflexion. Other critics have mentioned this as well.

LOOK IN THE MIRROR HUMANS, WHEN A HORSE SAYS NO, IT MEANS NO, I DON'T CONSENT - THEN WE SHOULD STOP, WE SHOULD LISTEN AND WE SHOULD RESPECT THEIR WISHES. IT IS THEIR LIFE, NOT OURS. I am a woman in my late 30s who loves horses as the beautiful animals they are but as much as I would have liked to, have not had the fortune of ever being around them. I have petted quite a few horses, however, I have only ridden horses on two occasions during trail rides that lasted less than an hour. So I can safely say that I have ZERO knowledge of anything to do with these beautiful animals and yet, in almost ALL of the 24 examples of ‘behaviours of horses in pain’ shown in this video, I can comfortably recognise an animal who is clearly in pain. The so called experts and athletes in these horse industries are in complete denial of their horses feelings in an effort to pursue their own selfish goals! In the beginning of the video when this girl is riding Galina, she looks exactly how I look when I am trying to walk around in extremely uncomfortable, too tight, high heel shoes! How is it not blatantly obvious to her that she is in pain?
Also, thank you to Dr Dyson for her hard work to set these beautiful animals free from the pain they suffer! I think her gentle, subtle approach is just the key to get the truth out there in these horse led industries!
I stopped riding a few years ago. There are simply to many things that can affect the horses negatively. Animals should be given the benefit of the doubt.
There is no simple fix when you constantly subject your horse to jumps that are not even natural in nature. A horse in the wild does not challenge itself to do these high jumps.. please stop asking your horse to jump, their legs are not meant to do that kind of behavior.
If I had forced my horse to do athletic and competitive jumping for years under pain the first words I would to say to her if she would understand is: I'M SORRY! Not: thank you.
This is an impossible dream. Sadly a lot of horse owners are very badly informed and if they cant get them to work well they sell them on . A lot of owners are also not fit and cause thier horses not to carry them well. Human just have to get on with it and that is what they expect of thier horses. Not a perfect world Sadly.
Always something to learn . Very eye opening and great to go through and watch ! Very courageous and amazing girl for putting herself and her horse out there. Would love to know how they are both doing now x
