Another cracker video mate Where would i get my hands on one of those orange old school barrel type floats I see you using in a few vids? been looking around for a while now I can’t seem to find them anywhere
@@jamessakker2117 i know you said its rare to get those conditions, if i was to plan a trip up that way what weather leading up to the trip would i be looking for and is this the best time of yr to go?
I like going in winter and early spring basically the less windy the better and neap tides usually give you the best visibility. I use the windy pro app to get a ten day forecast. When the high pressure systems are coming across the middle of Australia rather than through the bight South Australia you get less south easterlies. Also no flooding in the months before. Hope this helps….
Thanks Tim I don’t have a lot of bottom time which is why you don’t see me lying on the bottom!! I like approaching trout and blueys from above I think it helps
@@jamessakker2117 I think you are onto something. Unless you are as skilled as Tim MacDonald and have his breath hold it is probably better to just not give the big fish a chance to swim away.
Happy big 60th!! I noticed most of your fish are shot dive bombing rather than lying on the bottom. I feel most of my missed shots are due to me getting to the bottom and spooking the fish. They are either gone by the time I hit the bottom, or have moved just out of range. I shall deploy your tactic next time I'm out.
I noticed it too. I am not sure if this is regarding what kind of fish you are shooting and what speed you dive down. So I do not ask James. I shoot Red Morwong at Sydney. I dive down very slow and always shoot them when I lying on the bottom. 2 reasons doing that, first, red morwong is very skinny fish. It is very hard to line up them from top. I missed heaps. Second red morwong is not that smart. If your dive down speed is not fast, they will stay there. sometimes they will swin to you to have a look. That is the time you can pull the trigger. Anyway, looking forwards James' opinions
Happy birthday James. After I watched this video I think you have an awesome 60th Birthday celebration. Appreciated for all your spearfishing and lobster tips. I do learn a lot. Dive safe.
Thanks mate!! I meant it when I said I couldn’t get a tooth pick up my arse!! We checked it off the lookout and it changed in the 20 minutes as the tide dropped. Glad you enjoyed it mate
Crickey James, That bar crossing was real sketchy wouldn't want the motor to cough hey! I was Laughing at 8:12 - "Shiny Mackerel"😁 So at 6:35 that must be the "Holy Mackerel!" 😂🤣(OK I'll show my self out of the comments section 😆😆)Looked like you crew were eating well. Great day out, Cheers for sharing the Adventure. Dive safe, have fun, enjoy life! 👍👌🍻
@@jamessakker2117 just come back from these islands 40 miles north of Stanage I thought there would be a lot more fish being so remote But got some good footage
@@georgedrager-bluewaterdreamer How was the visibility? Those huge tides make it dirty a lot. Bummer you didn't see more fish it seems liek a very fishy place
@@georgedrager-bluewaterdreamer thats really strange you would think they would be pretty dumb there. Its good you are back out exploring and living the dream!!
Nice video. I have not seen and caught this fish before. I only spearfish offshore rather than on the boat. This may be the next target for me. I am aiming to unlock lobster totally this season. 😊😊😊. I have watched all your lobster playlist already. Now I am watching them second time. Your videos do help me a lot. Sometimes when I jump into the water see the rocks I realize I saw these rocks in James’ videos. The lobsters should be there. 😂😂😂
You can definitely get Spanish from the shore in fact I get more than boat diving. I shot my biggest shore diving 31.5kg. I’m glad you are enjoying the lobster videos hopefully the big seas will bring in a lot. Thanks for watching!!
Yeah it certainly did, you can see the flopper hanging out right at the end i'm glad Dodgy put a second shot in! Thanks for watcjing glad you enjoyed it
Yeah I don’t cross it when it’s big. Back creek is a nasty little bar being so shallow and the Macleay is a challenge too. At least we have a reasonable beach launch at Shelly
Yeah they are the school mackerel down here we do get spotties as well but they tend to be a bit wider and you need flashers or burley to get them in close to you usually. Just ordered my DJI Osmo action4 so I should get a lot better video in the future
Yeah they will definitely leave once you stir them up. Remember that hole because lobsters will come back in the future to it. Glad you enjoyed the video and nice effort pulling three legal ones from one hole
Hi James, I got another question. I catch the lobster in the shallow water which is about 3m deep at the low tide and nearly 5m at the high tide. The lobster is not very big. The biggest I caught is 16cm. Generally they are between 11cm-13cm. Sometimes they are too small to legal size. When I watch your previous videos I see sometimes you catch the lobster from a very deep cave which looks like nearly 8m or 10m. Does it mean the deeper you go the bigger lobster you can get? Or it does not matter. It is totally random. Looking forward for your opinion. Much appreciated.
Hey mate 3 to 5 metres is pretty average depth for lobster diving. I’ve caught over size ones as shallow as 2 metres but usually deeper. I think your location makes more of a difference the north coast has more oversized lobsters than port Stephens and further south. Port Stephens has a much higher population of lobsters and they can be caught all year round. Thousands of kittens which we don’t have in the north. Since the maximum size was introduced there are many more oversized lobsters around
Hi James, I found a hole which is pretty big on Thursday afternoon. There are more than 15 crayfish and a port Jackson in this hole like some of your videos shown. I caught 3 crays. I believed when I caught the 3 crayfish I scared all other crayfish. I went there Saturday afternoon again. I found all the crayfish are gone. Do you know why? Do you think the crayfish are smart enough which they think this hole is not safe anymore and escaped? Looking forward for your opinion. Much appreciated.
LOL Reece "Berry Nice" Borat Diving action. Legal Cray. Great to have a Crack drinking video Finally James! The weekend ill be very entertaining for the crew!🤗😂Champagne Dive, Reece is lucky you didn't take him Rum Diving! Awesome video, Stoked to see Reece grinning like a split water melon. Dive Safe, have fun, enjoy life! 👍🍻😁
Enjoyed watching a good video with you and Rhys those nsw bars can get tricky I’m gunna finish this job I’m doing this week and go camp for a week some island
So awesome to get out with you for a dive James! Also very cool to see the DJI against the Gopro, with the DJI looking quite cinematic coming right out of the box - all the best and hope to get out again for another dive soon!
Hey mate, i fish these local waters ( usually via kayak ) and was wondering if you encounter squid often as i would love to start targetting them if there are decent numbers ? I have found a few in the snapper i catch
Hey mate I’m afraid I have bad news I very rarely see squid. Port Stephens is great for squid but not the north coast. I miss them! Thanks for watching
Great Video as always James, nice to see you having a crack and getting a feed. Great to see Reece from No vis what a laugh! Great conditions. Have a good weekend. Dive safe, have fun, enjoy life! 👍👌🍻
They are all different and it depends on what you are good at. Definitely Bowen for big blueys and huge Spanish. Keppels has a lot of variety and great well educated fish and has more options and more divable days. Great facilities too. Mackay has so much pressure these days but still has lots of good fish and probably a better place to dive with a decent size boat Local knowledge really helps in Mackay you look at Kurt from exhale adventures and all the work he’s put in to finding ground and he smashes the fish consistently. Thanks for watching how you enjoying Mackay? I hope you’re getting plenty of fish!!
