Absolute gold mate! Been hoping you'd do this vid myself. Your vids have the most information of all the spearing vids on RU-vid I reckon, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

That is excellent. I am still trying to work out how my GPS works so this will be great to locate marks around Mackay. We have islands and coastal marks that would work well.

Pretty cool diagram James, I liked it. In WA, you missed drawing the Fisheries officer on the hill with his drone, and the shark buoy with the GWS hanging around, and don't forget the cracks.

Yeah I did advanced crayon in kindy and some of my teachers thought I would hold down a job one day. I would have put in the fish pigs but the government microchip won’t let me. Did I mention the line fishing ban coming in on blue groper here? The most common fish on NSW reefs is now going to be totally protected due to 379 getting caught by line last year so the stock is down to the last 100 million. WA must be nice when you can only dive every second month for a lot of species!! Thanks for watching and your great sense of humour!!

This is how my grandfather taught me when finding ground bait fishing and wrecks. And like you I’ve incorporated it into my spearing also. One to mention don’t know if you do, but I take a photographic memory pic of the reef structure leading up to my jew holes and cray holes.
@jamessakker2117
@jamessakker2117 5 месяцев назад
100% I try to follow a path of identifying structure in combination with marks to get more accuracy. I don’t have a photographic memory but I do remember my pathways reasonably well. I use those bits of structure to guide me to approach my actual good spot at the right angle to maximise my chance of shooting a fish. Using what you describe is really important when it’s hard to see your landmarks and when your landmarks are a bit fuzzy. The more thinking you put into spearfishing the better you do in the long run

Thanks George it was good fun doing it. Technology is great but the old skills are an essential back up in my opinion and you get a lot of satisfaction finding spots too

@dirty_diver
@dirty_diver 3 месяца назад
@@jamessakker2117 I’m in the Phillippines for freediving. I have the AIDA instructor and now doing cross over to another agency, Molchanov. After that, I want to take competition safety course and maybe safety few comps. Few other goals - 60m as a base easy dives and getting a big fish here (where it’s fished out, deep, and difficult). I’m also doing my PhD on scholarship at the same time. At the end of the year, I might move to Bali to switch mostly to spearfishing. I miss seeing and getting fish easily. I miss Nambucca and people as well.
