@@esseel7896 They are, but fortunately things have changed a lot for the better since then! Weirdly that's because the history of Butlin's is far better respected now. So the new things now look like they're very old but in a good way!
As an 80s enthusiast who also loves Butlins (I've been going since the late 2000s) Im going to be so annoying on my families' Butlins trip this summer. My family will be sick of me going 'Did you know this used to be here?'
Thanks for the comments, and I would have agreed with you when I made that video. Thankfully since then there have been massive improvements and in 2023 I'm very pleased to be able to say that Butlin's is BACK! If you haven't been for a while I strongly recommend you do. Minehead is the resort that is most unchanged. But at all three resorts the original Redcoat uniform is back, as is the original slogan, at Minehead there's new chalets that are modern versions of the original chicken sheds, and there's loads of nostalgic references everywhere across all resorts!
I loved the cable cars. I loved the monorail too, especially when it stopped over the fountains. I even remember going on a helicopter ride. I distinctly remember the pilot doing a steep dive over the sea!
The best family holidays there in the early 90s. Would rather there back then than going abroad . Was just magical . Soon as we left I was counting down the days to the next year . Went down hill soon as the skyline was built in my opinion.
@@FunFindervids After the Lancaster store closed many years ago, I never saw one again! I think it changed to Somerfield, and it was expensive. All bottled water under the bridge now!
Apart from the CEO all the other senior team no idea never been to the camps and one of them saying cannot justify a £2 cost in staff food because they were spending millions on a upgrade, typical suit
This is one of those moments where I have a distant but really strong life memory that i haven’t thought about for decades. I type it into a RU-vid and I get hit with nostalgia. I can’t remember what age I was or where it was exactly, all I know is I was at a Butlins in the mid 80s, I saw and became a fan of Push Button Click, I queued for and bought (well my dad bought) the vinyl album, I got it signed by Push Button Pete and I was starstruck. It was the first album I ever had signed and it meant a lot to me. If anyone involved ever reads this I want to say a big thank you! I’ll be asking my dad tomorrow to fill in the gaps in my foggy memory from when I was a little kid 😂
Kwik Save pioneered something in the UK that had been used in America, and by Aldi in Germany, known as the 'baby shark' method. They would buy a limited range of items on favourable payment terms (not having to pay for 60 or 90 days), selling them at or below cost before the payment fell due, and using the interest on the resulting cash flow to fund the business. They started to get into trouble in the 90s as the market became more and more competitive, and were bought by Somerfield who then proved to have their own problems, eventually being bought by the Co-op in turn. Somerfield sold the Kwik Save brand in 2006 and there was a brief revival before that too too went under. The brand was sold again to Cost Cutter and briefly re-launched but with little success.
