They’re not being looked after. They’ve been left to rot. I looked at Butlin’s prices yesterday. They’re ridiculous! If they had all the great facilities they had in the 1960s and 70s, it would be worth the money. Now they just seem to be superficial, small scale and about pure profit. Butlin’s before Rank bought them in the early ‘70s was fantastic. It was clean, well kept and felt safe and special. Rank was the beginning of the end. I have no idea who owns it now, but I won’t be taking my son there. (I spent 2 weeks every summer at Butlin’s Skegness from 1962 to 1979. In 1980, 81 and 82 I worked there in Cashiers and the Accounts department for the summers whilst studying. It’s a shame to see what it’s become. I took my older kids to Minehead in the early 1990s but we didn’t enjoy it. I have some amazingly happy memories of being a kid and going to Butlin’s. It’s such a shame that the true spirit of Butlin’s has gone.
@@Lee-nh5bb I was born in 1962, so perhaps my comments were slightly misleading about my childhood holidays, sorry. My mum and dad probably would’ve seen him. However, my older brothers, mum and dad all used to boast how my dad made Hughie Green look like a complete arse in front of a packed Gaeity Theatre! Apparently, Green tried to make a joke at my dad’s expense which got the audience laughing. So my dad retorted with his incisive and humiliating wit. Unfortunately, I’ll have to ask one of my brothers what actually happened in terms of what was said. I’ll report back when I know.
@@pgVeritas it's a case of moving with the times. I have to admit, when I look at photos of Butlins from the 60s 70s and 80s it does look great. But they were seeing declining bookings. It's a business at the end of the day and if they didn't move with the times it certainly wouldn't still exist. Look at pontins, there's murders, fights, fires, and run down old centres, that's what Butlins couldve become if it wasn't for rank. The guy who completely modernised Butlins in 98/99, Tony marshal, admitted that they had probably taken away more than they added, but everything they were doing was a massive risk, they spent 140 million on 3 camps at the end of the day, and they certainly needed it. Plus lets be honest, Butlins in the 80s and 90s was known as the stag do capital of Europe. It was full of drunk teenagers having sex and fighting. It wasn't quite the Dreamland people make out like it was. That's why it needed to change directions. bourne leisure bought it in the early 00s and have carried on the developments, they haven't removed anything, they just refurbished what is still there, they certainly don't do it on the cheap either. Butlins isnt what it used to be but it's unfair to say it's terrible, every generation will say that the era they experienced was the best.
Oh my goodness the kangaroo and joey at 1.51. That was a particular favourite of mine. I didn’t want to leave it behind when we left. I must dig out my photo with it… and the little trains etc Love love love!
I don't damage things when I go to abandoned places btw so it's fine to tell me if you want. Edit: I think if it's "secret" then it must be demolished now? Edit 2: It might be the butlins in filey.
@UCW3k620vmw6U6CbZHj7xaJA I don't want to say which camp they're from as it could give away the location. The location has been kept secret to provide as much protection as possible for these old rides. Hope you understand. Please if you do know where this is don't share it here as it could put all these old rides at serious risk! However I can say there's nothing from Mosney at this location.
