Oh darn, I should have gone to _Spiel '23._ It's practically around the corner from where I live. (Not really; I live in an adjacent town, but due to inconveniently timed connections, it takes about 45 minutes to get there via public transport, over 20 minutes of which are just waiting time.) It's been _ages_ since I last went to the convention myself. I still remember playtesting a 4-person chess game that still had a few bugs to iron out: due to randomised starting positions, I basically started out in check, from the word 'go', and all my moves were forced, until I was quickly eliminated. And after two players were eliminated, the game became just… normal chess with the figures unusually scattered across the board, which greatly slowed the game down from a mad clash to a slow, deliberate pace - not as much fun for the two eliminated players, who now have to sit and watch what could potentially become a long, slow, drawn-out battle, in which they have no role to play. 11:45 - *“Oh look: everything I could ever want in a tabletop RPG.”* That banner made me laugh out loud. Both the name ("The Black Cat") and the logo design are a parody of a popular German RPG, "Das Schwarze Auge" - usually translated as "The Dark Eye" or "The Eye of the Master", since a "black eye" already means something different in English. You can see the original logo on the banner to the left, before you zoom in.
Went to GENCON once about 10 years ago - spent 3 days in the Auction Room bought over 100 items and spent over $1,000 THEN went into the VENDORS ROOM and spent about $500 MORE - Could just BARELY fit everything back into the car with my buddies and drive back to K.C. Mo. !! Had fun but it's a long drive !! :-)
I have won less than 41% of GWT. I have never focused on one worker type and it never dawned on me to try that. I'll be giving it a go next time this hits the table. Thanks for the tips. And...if you ain't a cowgirl then there ain't no cowgirls, yeeehaaa!!!
I'm definitely The Crew Paula. I find that if I explain thematically the rules people generally have a better time remembering them. But I'm sure it comes off just as silly as Crew Paula did.
This game is such a turd. Seriously. I bought it in 2013 right after it came out and it had a cd in the box intended as a sound track. That was the first red flag. It was sophomore year music major midi quality garbo, which I hoped wasn't reflective of the gameplay but unfortunately, the game was even worse. Take the title for example. Fortune and glory. Which of those two do you think wins you the game. Glory? No glory is money. Fortune is points. They try to be edgy by making alt history nazis the enemy, but they forget to make any other part of the game engaging. In the end it all comes down to rolling dice correctly, and by correctly, I mean there is a lean probability on your side. If you dont roll the right number then you lose, nothing you can do will help your chances. Theres no strategy in this game, they just expect you to be impressed by the photo quality art on the cards and the minis. I'd rather play paper rock scissors. Also disappointed in the channel lately, stop playing crap games for ad money.
I'm sorry you feel so negatively about this game and this video and this channel. I had fun playing this with my friends but it certainly is not going to be to everyone's taste. I accept bookings for this series based on if I think my friends and I will have fun playing them, not just to get ad money. You can think I'm a schill or whatever all you want, but I'm just trying to show that games are FUN whether that's through play throughs, live streams, or sketch comedy. If what I'm doing isn't to your taste, that's fine. There are LOTS of other board game channels out there.
Now you just need the step of "the enlightened" where the collection is reduced to a slim, curated collection of games that they have played 50+ times each and they feel no desire to expand or explore further.
I wasn't sure of the premise at first, but the characters hooked me in. Loved all the motivational sayings from Matthew (if I hear "10x" again, haha), the nature communing from Rachanee leading to important clues, and how Mary Lou managed to make a vacuum salesman totally compelling! And nice job by the Fate Weaver handling everything the players threw at her. :)
