A little about the guys. Tom Ochoa (Fozcast Co-Host & Cycling GK Commercial Director) is a huge sports fan and has spent the last few years working in the sporting space. Endurance Zone Founder Dave Birch owns a sporting company that offers world class reward platforms, advertising & tech services to some of the biggest sporting brands in the world.
I liked the first season of Welcome to Wrexham and season 2 was ok, but I'm not really into season 3. What keeps me as a fan is just the quality of play and the potential for the future.
What do they mean by turnover? To me, turnover is going from the players no longer with the team, to the players they will bring in. Not sure the relation to sponsors
I think a part that a lot of people are not talking about is the exposure that wrexham get can attract players that they cant afford ideally. But with all the attention there will surely be players willing to take a pay cut to play for wrexham. Especially when they eventually go to the championship. It's a win-win for both parties. More eyes for said player to build their brand and potential big earnings for wrexham in transfers if they overperform.
I would be shocked if it isnt Nike. And on a massive deal as well. Nike is the jersey sponsor for the top 3 leagues in the U.S and the national team. I doubt they'll miss the marketing opportunity
Season tickets thankfully haven’t gone up if you renewed by a certain date. Think they went up around £20 if you missed the deadline. Enjoyed the pod really good info in there.
Not sure why lots of football fans slate Wrexham and their owners, I mean Ryan & Rob literally showed you their business model. How are you going to be mad at them for making money & investing in their club? It’s genuinely so funny watching these fans use their brains sometimes.
They’re doing great things with Wrexham. The club is in a great position and it’s clearly having a positive effect on the town and surrounding area. Long may it continue
My understanding is that the actual profits from the documentary are going into Rob/Ryan's production companies, and not directly to Wrexham. However, Rob and Ryan (via some commercial entity) are continuing to provide substantial loans to Wrexham, with no apparent repayment schedule in place. So the documentary is underwriting Wrexham indirectly. Meanwhile, the indirect financial benefits of the documentary to Wrexham AFC are - obviously - massive.
@@WhatsTheDealWithSports I believe Rob had sold the 1st two seasons of the docu-series before a club had even been directly targeted for purchase so the payments for those episodes going to a production company would make sense since the deals were signed before the club was even acquired directly.
I think the Welcome to Wrexham contract is with Ryan and Rob, not with Wrexham AFC themselves. That means that when they say how much money they are putting into the club, they aren't mentioning how much of that is Disney money. But also: the Disney money can't last forever. No-one's going to watch Season 15 about a mid-table Championship team. They need to build something that is sustainable without Disney's help. And, while Rob and Ryan are rich, they're not rich in the way the Qatari royals are at Paris Saint-Germain to bankroll a top-level club entirely out of pocket indefinitely. So: perhaps they can make the money back that they are putting into the club from Disney, rather than needing to take money out of the club at some point to repay what they put in. But once there's a 30K stadium and a Championship team, then it needs to pay for itself.
Had some good visits to Peterborough. A dear departed friend of mine was friends with a couple of posh fans and we used to meet up on match days. I did get lost once when I drove looking for the oundle turn off 😂
I moved up to North Wales 7 years ago and something people don't realise is the divide between North and South Wales. Wrexham are the only team in North Wales and Rugby is far more of a South Wales obsession, North is football mad. All of North Wales will support Wrexham now and go to matches.
Another brand I could imagine putting a bid in for the kit manufacturer is Under Armour. They are making a big push into football shirts and something like the Wrexham kit would be perfect for them with all the free advertising it will bring them .
The stadium aspirations spoken about on this show and by Rob may be realistic for the ownership in their minds, but in reality not doable. In America, The NFL stadium in Green Bay, Wisconsin (Lambeau Field) was built up at the original site from a 32,000 seat bowl to eventually, over decades, seat more than 80,000. Knowing the nightmare of getting building permits in the UK, it doesn't seem possible to replicate that knowing how much easier it is to get those permits in the states.
I am a Wrexham fan from Chicago. This past season, I bought a season ticket on iFollow so that I could watch all the games. My understanding is that Wrexham had the highest number of iFollow subscriptions in any of the lower leagues for 23-24.
I could see 25-35K seating, but 50+ seems overly ambitious especially since Humphrey has stated that there are issues with building the new stand because of what they found tearing down the old one. Stuff not on the plans, etc.
everything is doable with enough money. They should slowly increase capacity to 30k to compete in the championship then try and increase it to 50k for the prem if and when they get there.
@@davidjones272 A quick Google search would tell you that it's over that. It's almost triple that amount. But you're right that they would not be able to fill that many seats....at the moment at least. But I do see them gaining more fans outside of Wrexham as they keep getting promoted. If they make it to the prem then they will have no problem filling those seats in my opinion.
Wrexhams’ biggest-ever crowd, in the days when it was mostly standing, was 34,445 against Manchester United in the 1957 FA Cup. I can’t really see how a 50,000 stadium would work, 25-30K maybe. Even raising the capacity to 16500 is slightly problematical for environmental reasons - authorised capacity is, I think, about 600 less than what they’re planning to build, because the towns’ sewerage system isn’t thought to have the capacity to handle the toilets!
50,000 stadiums will work as long as they keep having success. The higher the league, the more people want to see it. This is true based on how much the championship teams get paid compared to League 1 teams. It's not just a small jump in revenue like it is for League 2 going to League 1. They currently have 12,500 seats and are still having massive issues with people not being able to get tickets. They're getting hundreds of ticket sales for people that are overseas. Unfortunately for the team, they will need to increase the seating significantly if they want to compete with the top championship teams. What sucks about that is they will run into issues like you said with the sewerage system that will slow them down.
Very good point. They could offset some of that with grey water cisterns that filter the water for use on the field or recycle back into toilets. Waterless urinals can also drastically reduce water/sewage needs as well. Sill don’t think that would be enough to sustain a stadium bigger than 20K.
Those sewage limitations you refer to have now been lifted and the full capacity has been given the green light. So it will be up to 16,500 WHEN/IF it actually gets started....which no-one seems to know the answer to (outside of the club of course)!
Ifoloow is not even close to being a small fee considering you can only watch that specific club games and not the all league, and not even all the games. that being said, as much as I understood, ESPN is going to start some kind of deal for the next season for broadcasting rights for efl... as much as the IFollow broadcasters are the best when it comes to Wrexham, Espn as much better quality video and it's not 30 seconds behind live.
ESPN will have games , you’re right. But it’ll only be a selected games. If you want to watch all of them , it’s I follow you need - unless the games are picked for broadcast on ESPN- which a lot of Wrexham’s will be - in that case , you need both 🫣😂
@@WhatsTheDealWithSports whenever the gamme run on both, I would watch it on mute on ESPN while having the sound broadcast of ifoolow on. that being said, I'm aware on how it was last season, but I read somewhere that they might change the rights so ESPN be able to stream all the games of efl and with that I don't see than giving up on any wrexham games. also at the same time, ESPN is needed anyway for the cup and thropy games, since they not on ifollow. one last thing, I think apple tv is also getting some kind of deal for broadcasting like they have with the mls, not sure if the rumer is true or not. either way, we would need to wait and see prob around july we would know for sure
The rumours are Rob and Ryan are pocketing all the money from the documentary... Wrexham isn't getting a penny from it... The club has been asked for clarification and comment several times and no response to date
@@WhatsTheDealWithSports I get that but we were told there was going to be continued transparency... Also we were told there would be no dodgy loans to be paid back... However, in the finances you will find a loan being repaid at a rather tasty interest rate... Now nobody will rock the boat as everything is going well... But that's strike 2...
@@phillipmillington5190The “tasty interest rate” is 3% above Bank of England base rate; for a commercial loan that’s a pretty good rate - you’ll certainly not get a loan anywhere near the plain BoE rate from any commercial source.
Surviving a relegation fight or mid table next season is surely their goal. League 1 is a big step up. It's only gonna get harder, but I do hope they push on and get promotion number three. 2 years from now they could be a new Premier League side. Stranger things have happened. I genuinely wish them success next season. It's a fascinating and wholesome journey and the fans definitely deserve to see Wrexham thriving once again. Good luck 🤞
@@donnyjepp I think promotion is in reach at this point of time, they can afford it and the management certainly is capable to. But its football mate, just saying theyve got the tools.
There are 32 compensatory picks for losses in free agency, and if your team has a minority hired out by another team to GM or Head Coach you can get a 3rd round pick at the end.
There are also compensatory picks which teams get for losing free agents above a certain pay grade, and those are tacked on to the end of each round (I believe) but I understand why those were skipped.
