Beautiful fab work guys...but massive question/inquiry....why didn't you go with a 4" stainless _oval_ tubing in most areas to gain a ton of clearance instead of round 4" ? I understand it hangs just as low as that terribly low trans pan, but it could've been almost completely tucked up at the same height as the rails...or, is the guy using the exhaust as a reference to know if he's about to take out an oil pan? 😅 (Not busting your chops, fantastic work, especially not being lazy with a terrible sounding H pipe, just an honest question)
Thank you very much for the appreciation! It's hard to say without me looking at the invoice, especially with pausing the project to wait for parts and such. I'd say about a straight week of work for a single Fabricator.
@@patiencemetalfab Any time my friend, can always appreciate some quality fab work and you guys aren't lacking in that department haha. That's about what I was figuring, say 40 to 60 hours. It really looks great. Thank you and thanks for responding. Looking forward to the next one
@@SWFabrication. Glad you can recognize that, we definitely have some talented Fabricators on our team! That's about a safe bet, thanks again for tuning in and enjoying ❤
These kit is not the real group b ???? The real one is the r5 maxi turbo ...in Europe you can buy tne maxi kit and the wheels for a nice and true project ....not to much espensive .
Thank you very much! It did just fine on the dyno, so it should preform well in the street with proper airflow. It won't be long until we start reassembling everything 👊
Thanks for making this video bro.. you'd just added better ideas for what I prefer to a DYi strutbar for my Honda EG.. thanks again bro... Filipino here..
We wanted to have the ability to pull the body off the pan even with a full, tight cage and were able to achieve it with a few strategic notches. This way, we can separate the two for body/paint later on.
Hello guys, nice work, really. I think one of our best tunner in France, for old renault turbo is GR-MOTORS, his knowledge on this car is just fucking awesome, you could find the youtube channel easily if needed ;)
There are so many custom fabricated parts for this vehicle because the owner wanted to modernize as much of the setup at possible, while still staying true to the feel of the original. We can't wait to showcase the finished product!
I remember Art from his grimmspeed days i was following closely the 22b build he was part of and was sad to see it scrapped then he started a channel and it didn't move but i am happy to see him continue somewhere else
That's really cool that you remember me from back then; two years has flown by! Yaaah, it was just poor timing on that build and the company getting bought/restructured. Now I get to film multiple builds each week and showcase the content for a much broader audience; thanks for tuning in and supporting!! -Art
Wings etc are all available here in France. And Gemini Racing supply all suspension parts plus interior pieces for the rear. They are fabulous to drive with the balance running right through the driver. It was important to keep the engine at 6000rpm to get the best out of them. I have driven and raced many of them! A workshop manual is also available. 160hp for the road version, up to 350hp(!) for the Maxi Turbo.
That's really great info and cool to hear that you got to drive these often. Despite having this project in our shop over the past year, I've never actually ridden in one, so I'm very much looking forward to this firing up. We should be right around the 450HP mark with every handling, suspension and chassis reinforcement mod we could throw at it!
@@patiencemetalfab of course, it is the customer's choice to make so many modifications to the car. But that loses its authenticity (they're only original once) and would probably reduce rather than enhance its value. Although in the USA I guess that is not important. Why do you not have a drive in his Pearl White version? By today's standards the car is not fast at all, but is the experience of driving a correct, unmodified car from the 80's that is the real buzz.
@@a310man Restomodding cars is definitely a point of contention and pertains heavily to American Muscle/classic cars here in the US. The trouble with keeping things period correct, is that you're using 50+ year old technology that's worn out, tired and often obsolete. In the case of this Turbo 2, the plan was to keep the engine and its components as original as possible, but it would have been nearly impossible to get to the power and reliability goals the customer wanted. We say to each their own and we'll build it to whatever spec the owner pays us to! Unfortunately I did not get a chance to ride in that one, but I'll do my best to hop in it next time it comes around our shop ❤
This video just popped up in my suggestions. I will follow the project with great interest. I'm a little envious of the project since here in Spain we can't even change the intake and I'm stuck with my 55hp 1.2GTL, but hey, it's still lots of fun.
Thank you for tuning in and watching this build all the way from Spain! Some of the most fun cars we've ever driven have been low power, low weight vehicles like your GTL, so no shame in that ❤we're excited to show you this R5 coming together!
So instead in this 12V just got a unique sound no over car sounds like them I so need to get one again VR6 12V mad engine. Please send me the finished video. Many thanks JAY S👌
The VR6 is one of the best sounding WV engines, especially when it's build up like this. I'll definitely be posting some sound clips as soon as it's fully tuned up!
All the sheet metal and floors are original on the car. The exterior was repainted a little while back. Car was originally this color (yellow) and was a factory 318 v8 4-speed car. The engine had a cam failure and was removed just prior to these guys getting the car.
It takes a lot of work to make a classic car like this drive and handle the way the customer wants it to, but we're no stranger to these types of custom modifications!
Given how compact this entire exhaust setup is, we don't foresee this being an inefficiency point. Most fresh air anti-lag systems we've researched and dealt with in the past are set up very similar.
