This channel is dedicated to my love of the Lord of the Rings books, movies, lore and music.
My LotR score analyses mix official sources (Howard Shore/Doug Adams) with my own theories, so if you want to have the distinctions clarified, feel free to ask me on RU-vid, Twitter or e-mail. I don't want to spread misinformation, so please do NOT cite me unless you have done this.

Gollum’s Menace at the start also sounds distant or echoey, as if the music is bouncing across the wide and barren mountain ranges of Mordor.

I think I'd love you to re-score or remaster the classic songs from the old hobbit and return of the king animated movie, and perhaps ralph bakshi's lord of the rings as well, they often do not get much attention musical wise so I hope my earnest request will be at the very least considered.

It almost sounds like what ai thinks it should generate as "howard shore lotr music for tv". Disjointed, lacking any memorable themes, echoes of something... but no substance. Shame Howard Shore didn't do the full score.

I really hope there are some big moments in the score that weren't in the album. The album is undoubtedly good ,the choros parts are immaculate. but there weren't really any big moments that completely took me like in season 1 there were white leaves, the boat, prologue. I hope the album was more focused on vocal songs that are plenty and didn't reveal music of heavily spoilery moments. I think there was less, even completely none feeling of a story through the album and even within individual tracks, no coherency, seems like highlights of much longer pieces.
@monoverantus
@monoverantus 14 дней назад
@whoshoo Oh I think there's loads of stuff waiting for us, some of which would be too spoilery to put out before the show.

Those oscillating minor thirds you mention in the ostinato are typical "mccrearyisms" that appear all throughout his scores, ROP or otherwise. I wouldn't necessarily treat them as a leitmotif.
@monoverantus
@monoverantus 14 дней назад
@krzysztofkietzman3332 That would've been my intuition too, if not for the fact that the Forging Theme, which is just a regular Hollywood arpeggio with flat sixths, is counted as its own theme.
@krzysztofkietzman3332
@krzysztofkietzman3332 14 дней назад
I'm more of a Bear McCreary fan than a ROP fan, I listened to his scores since Battlestar Galactica, though my favorite scores are perhaps not the most popular, that is, Human Target, The Cape, Dark Void, Caprica... I wouldn't put his ROP score in the top 5, but it's still an amazingly crafted score nonetheless. I think McCreary was a little too boxed in the Shore sound fro this specific project, but I think he will gain confidence with time. You can already hear he's found his own voice for this world.

Now it'll be interesting how Bear McCreary does the Season 2 soundtrack, I have a feeling it's gonna be a lot more corrupted, a lot more Sauron in themes. Already one Numenor theme has a lot of nods to Sauron given Ar Pharazon is kind of gonna go nuts at some point, but that'll be interesting to see, the show's version is always very different.

"We renounce the darkness" The "darkness" refers to Sauron's lies to Ar-Pharazon and the King's Men faction (basically majority of Numenor at that point) that Eru Illuvatar is the "darkness", and that Morgoth/Melkor is the "Lord of all, Giver of Freedom"

My uneducated interpretation of the Ring Theme playing at the Argonath: The statues represent Gondor at it's height with the kings of old, Elendil and Isildur, guarding the former borders. It's the ring that lead to the line of kings failing and Gondor's lands and people diminishing. It's a mournful reminder of the weakness of even the strongest men.

I believe Gandalf The Grey's theme is derived from The Two Tower's theme when he rides Shadowfax in the OST: "Flight to Erodas". Or the start-up sounds very similar at least.
@monoverantus

@FlorentiusIV You're right. Gandalf the Grey's theme is clearly written to work as an embryonic version of The White Rider. They have mostly the same pitches, with the sensation that The White Rider is the more developed, grander and heroic.
