I’ve sometimes wondered what Lemmings would be like on the BBC Micro. The CPC has a huge advantage in the form of a bigger colour palette and the results are still underwhelming. A BBC might have the edge in speed though.

They had one of these arcade machines at the ice skating rink I went to as a little kid in the early 90s. I sucked at ice skating compared to my sister so I didn't go THAT often, but afterwards I would always play this racing game. I randomly remembered it just the other day and so I looked at a compilation of old-school arcade racing games to figure out exactly which one it was, and I recognized it immediately from the engine sounds, the ferris wheel in Big Forest, the construction signs in Bay Bridge (Sister: "The trick is not to run into the signs!"), and the Acropolis track (I remember it had a hairpin turn & my Dad told me that it was the name of a famous Greek ruin). Thank you so much for the memories!

When this was released in the UK, the only machines in the country were at the London Trocadero. A few years later, Sega World was built there which had the full 8-player setup. I recall first seeing Virtua Racing on some show on TV (might have been Top Gear) and was stunned by the visuals. Most of us were running 386 PC's and Amigas back then and F1 Grand Prix was about as good as it got for 3D racing games, so seeing this was an eye-opening experience. It showed where the future lay, with 2D sprite scalers such as Outrun suddenly looking extremely dated. The idea of having this at home seemed an impossible dream.

I try, I really do, but I can never make it through Level One...even after decades of trying (although over the past 10 years I've been able to blame emulator controller lag). It is such a fine example of 16-bit era eye-candy though as came to be expected from Bitmap Bros.

For a Phillip's CDi game, it actually looks incredible! Even if the CD audio sounds a bit off to me compared to the PS1 version.

Did this one make use of a raster effect to display the sky and ground? As there seems to be more than 16 colours on show.

Wonder why there's slowdown whenever the ceiling comes down or lifts up to exit on levels with ceilings. The SMS version didn't have slowdown then. At least definitely no musical lag. Does that happen on actual GG hardware?

weird feelings hearing and seeing this again. Came in a bundle in 1988 which was £400 i think back then. Marble Madness was the first game we played. Buggy Boy was the game which lasted the longest in the pack. This was a filler but a good game all the same. Test Drive though, what an experience!
