Places to ride things to see Hidden history civil and military, and engineering explored, discovered by Motorcycle and the odd bit of hiking, camping. Outdoors is better than indoors and of course usually a kettle and stove features somewhere. So bring a mug and lets go exploring.Extensive local and historical knowledge powered by motorbikes, off road and on road , coffee and the odd box of military rations. Lets get out there folks.

@Dave.w-ev9qn1962 no worries glad you enjoyed it. By VE day Davidstow had out lived it's purpose as it became beyond useful range of Europe and it's operations that had ceased at wars end. It was unfortunately realised throughout the later part of the war that the station was becoming less practical as the war came to an end. Inhospitable conditions and infrastructure that was inadequate due to the severe conditions in winter backed up by notorious training accidents and crashes. Although the runways were the longest in much of Southern England it also pioneered FIDO and GCA which were new effective progressions in flying safety.

@lewismacandrew Hi mate it's a very simple job on a T25 if yours is a DG series engine petrol. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts then slacken the tensioner bolt swing the alternator towards the engine the belt can just now be removed by hand. Reverse process to fit new belt. Use a metal rod or a piece of wood to put tension on the belt. Hold with one hand then tighten up bolts. Sadly I no longer have the van but this is a very simple job and you'll be fine. Best wishes

I thought that alcove might be the Loo. LOL. So where did folks go to the bathroom? Did they just use a bucket? Also in the United States, the bomb shelters I guess were more focused on longer times being in the shelter. (Due to Nuclear threat in the 1950s). So they would have more food storage etc..
@twowheelexploration9228
@twowheelexploration9228 Месяц назад
@outoftheforest7652 the many shelters built in residential locations here in England for WW2 were mostly either occupied at night as a precaution or during a raid, often during day light attacks and normally folks would leave the shelter as soon as the all clear was given. Many civilians were lost as a result of almost daily and highly raids so people took these shelters and air raid precautions very seriously. A bucket would of likely been an essential item and as the situation was so dire in the early war years survival was favoured more than comforts. Not many private public or military Air raid shelters had a toilet incorporated. Hope you enjoyed our look around this. TwEx

Thanks for the video; they are a nice piece of kit. A point of information re the "Test" sequence: I understand that these units incorporate a very small radioactive check source, adjacent to the detector, which provided a few counts to help establish functionality of the equipment. These sources really were very small and of either Sr or Cs isotopes having half lives of the order of thirty years. Of course, this doesn't mean they no longer provide check counts after that time, only that the rate is halved (quartered in sixty years, etc etc). I mention this because I gather PDMRM 82 units have been know to "Fail" the test sequence because of check source problems (rather than genuine non-functionality of the instrument). I hasten to add that I've no personal experience of this, but worth Googling if you do have an issue. Finally, I don't know the service/storage time that Plessey designed these units for - and check source size to remain sufficiently active for the "Test" function correctly - but Plessey did a very professional job on these meters & I imagine they should be still good for some time yet...
