Why have I never heard of these?! Thank you so much! This is definitely right up my alley, and I'm looking forward to seeing the originals on my next trip to NYC.
Do anyone know if he crocheted pictures because I have this same picture but with a real gold frame and the real wire string that says it came from a art gallery named royale internationale art gallery
I remember searching for this info a few years back expecting a wealth of results, but was disappointed to find almost nothing. Considering christianity being one of the largest religions in the world we'd have tons of quality material like this but sometimes I get the feeling that youtube and google derank anything like this.
Very interesting! This particular combination of virtues is, yes, timelessly positive, but also very distinctly Christian in the way it's framed and interpreted. Also, this time there were so many intriguing off-topic mentions - like, how come a serpent represents wisdom in Christian art, if it used to so strongly associated with sin? When did Justice started also being depicted as blind? Why pelican?!
Great questions, I may have rushed through some of these things. The snake/serpent has several alternative associations related to its characteristics, including its ability to move unseen (which is associated with wisdom). The blindness of justice refers to her being unbiased, just weighing the evidence (I think this started around the 16th century). And the pelican is related to an old legend, that in times of famine, a mother pelican would pierce her own chest to feed her young with her blood (self sacrifice).
I wish it weren't so, but this is another story of great art arising from great trauma. When I see Gentileschi's Judith, I almost wish I could get right in there and help.
@@AmuzeArt there isn't a connection, obviously the artist isn't using the cresent moon to represent Islam,it's just a cresent moon, my thoughts are how appropriate to have a cresent moon which is the symbol for the wicked false doctrine of demons Islam alongside Lucifer, it's very fitting
In other words, they were in spirit modernist because they were breaking down current norms and trying to reassemble them in new ways. In this case breaking down the images themselves and recombining them in anatural ways. Impressionists broke down and reassembled painting techniques. Post Impressionists, fauvists broke down color and composition, cubists even further, then finally constructivists, de stijl, bauhaus, deconstructed to basically art's atomic materials. Colors lines shapes. But symbolists did it with whole images themselves, seems like. Image probably the wrong word. Just trying to process this
Yep, that makes sense. Modernist is a very convoluted word, with some people calling every new movement from the 1850s modern, while others refer to modern art, as starting with the abstract movements in the beginning of the 20th century.
@@AmuzeArt Sure, yeah like any label or category you gotta use it with a loose grip. Try to get too rigorous and countless exceptions crop up but too vague and loses the point of trying to discern at all. I think it would be more like there would be a sense of "modernism" in the air, and then certain groups and individuals seized onto the idea and sought to flesh it out specifically 🤷♀️
I don't think everything is meant to be interpreted. Sometimes a piece of art is just unusual for the sake of experimenting. See how far into a strange idea you can get without it being false, empty, chaotic, or nonsensical. Where it's still communication. World is constantly changing so same as genes need to mutate to evolve, artists research mutation of design, style, and effect to try to push boundaries of visual language. The symbolism Kiss painting seems more about that. It's saying think outside the box because a new world is coming.
I love this video…thank you! I love Mucha art and have a couple of his prints in my home. Question: no info on Mucha ever tells us what medium he worked in….water color? Pastels? Oil? Thank you.
I am learning SO much about art by watching your videos! Could you please devote one to the four cardinal virtues - justice, wisdom, prudence, courage, and moderation?
That's Why I Was Sitting On The Throne overlooking The Valley Of 💀 Everything I love or has been close to me has died I have The Lord God almighty watching everything I do I better watch my step and my thoughts should be pure If I do anything bad I'm in big trouble Why are they allowed to get away with everything and I'm punished for what they do I know, they don't really understand I'm allowed to fight them especially when I know I AM right
A fun video, filled with references to your social post. I find this by no means an impressive painting but was nonetheless entertained by your analysis!
many years ago, 55 to 65, i heard black people used to take starch and beer to get high. and maybe once a week my mother hired a black lady to do ironing at our house. so I made that sort of connection in my mind. i have no idea whether it's true or not.
If this lady is a sex worker, she's bored and disaffected with her job. With that look on her face, she's probably thinking something like - "Here's that geriatric lech again. I'd better go get the clock and the wooden bowl."
I wonder... what if she really is a princess/daughter? Monarch government can change the story easily and tell the tale, and for some reason, maybe Kathy was afraid that this intelligent (1:27) Tara might be the next empress. So... yeah... Kath sent her to jail.
I love learning the lifestyles of the Bourgeois blow hounds of the 1650’s. This poor waitress, I’ve seen this look on many female coworkers as men in 2024 still use these same techniques. 😂
